THE THREE-FOLD VISION AS A POIMEN PASTOR: 1. PASTORING THE TWO CHURCHES IN EXETER AND WOTTER 2. PREPARING BRITISH LEADERSHIP FOR FUTURE MINISTRY INVOLVEMENT 3. POIMEN MINISTRY OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND ASSISTANCE TO OTHER PASTORS AND WIVES FEB 2014 ISSUE As we approach our one year mark here in England, I wanted to first of all say THANK YOU for all the prayers and support you have given. You, together with us, make up a team, one division of a spiritual army that goes forward with the gospel of Jesus Christ in this area of the world. It is not just GOOD NEWS, but the BEST NEWS to all mankind. HOW DOES THE POIMEN MINISTRY WORK SINCE YOU ARE NOW PASTORING AGAIN? Some have asked me how I am able to continue ministering to other pastors and wives through Poimen Ministries while pastoring two churches. Here's how this works: During the week I prepare the studies in Matthew (Sunday morning and evening) and the year-long review of the 66 books of the Bible (ROUTE 66) for mid-week (Wednesday and Thursday nights). I also edit and upload the daily radio messages to Calvary Chapel Radio. Jeanne and I also make ourselves available to counsel those in our churches if the need arises. I am asked to teach at different churches occasionally, but am careful how many times I am away from the home pulpits. Yet this gives opportunities for those leaders I'm working with locally to step into a teaching role and exercise their gifting. Jeanne and I also take the time to go to pastor's prayer meetings and conferences whenever we can to make ourselves available to other leaders locally, in the UK, and in Europe. This has been a very fruitful involvement as we continue to come alongside other pastors and wives (both within and without the Calvary Chapels), but just not as often as we did before. We are definitely still in the pioneering stage here with Poimen. 1
A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST THREE MONTHS Our last newsletter was in November. Since then we have introduced our congregations (Calvary Chapel Exeter and Wotter Community Church [just north of Plymouth]) to a US Thanksgiving Dinner and night of thanksgiving. Pastor Chris Ward (Calvary Chapel Maricopa) came over during the entire month of December (and his family for one week) to fill in for us while we were in the states. What a tremendous blessing they were to the congregations! Steve and Barb Tessitore moved here in December from Washington State for at least the next two years. They were our worship leaders at Calvary North several years ago. They now live in a village near the Wotter Community Church and are helping with ministry and outreach especially in that area of England. 2
Jeanne and I were on furlough back in the states in Dec-Jan (Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, California). Time with the family (we have three sons and their families, nine grandchildren), the home church (Calvary North Phoenix), Calvary Chapel McMinnville Oregon, Calvary Chapel Surprise Arizona, Calvary Chapel Casa Grande Arizona, Calvary Chapel Maricopa Arizona, and many of the support members was such a blessing! Yet it also brought the reality that our calling was indeed to be here in the UK. The annual Calvary Missions Conference and Calvary Costa Mesa Missions Day in January were so uplifting. I was again reminded of just how many people are in weekly prayer over the ministry here! 3
One final bit of news: I found out that my great grandfather on my grandmother's side moved to Indiana in 1849 from Ashburton, Devon, England! I have relatives here in Devon! We pass by this village two times a week on our way to Wotter. We are going to be checking this out more indepth as the weeks unfold. WHAT'S IN STORE FOR 2014? We are now back in full swing here in England. The ladies' Bible study has resumed, the SOLOMON'S PORCH University ministry has begun meeting again. One-to-one discipleship meetings have been established. We are looking for a venue to host Pastor Pat Lazovich (Calvary Chapel Sierra Vista) and his Pottery Ministry in late October. There have been new connections with pastors outside of Calvary Chapel to encourage and pray with them. 2014 looks to be a tremendous year of opportunity, outreach and open doors, especially with the help of several short-term mission teams that will be coming. Here are some of the opportunities on the horizon: ** At least three short-term mission outreach teams coming to Exeter/Wotter from July-October ** Speaking opportunities at pastors and leaders conferences, and other churches ** School of Ministry is scheduled to open in September, for not only singles but for those who are married and working ** CreationFest UK 2014 will be a major outreach to the SouthWest of England the first full week of August (http://www.creationfest.org.uk) ** Healing for Pastor Phil Pechonis, CreationFest UK director, who is battling cancer. ** Many discipleship opportunities with the University students between now and June, and September through December ** Potential of at least two more families moving to Exeter to join in the overall work of ministry here ** Possible new mid-week Bible studies opening in surrounding towns Here are the top prayer requests for the coming months: PRAYER REQUESTS ** Bob to pass his UK driving test quickly (his US driving license is no longer valid in the UK after March 1) ** Larger meeting place in Exeter near the University ** Wisdom and discernment in raising up British leadership for future ministry involvements ** City wide venue for Pastor Pat Lazovich's Pottery Ministry for late October ** School of Ministry teachers and students prepared for September ** Inreach into the communities surrounding Wotter Community Church ** Resources of all types to enable God to do all that is in His heart through us Jeanne is posting regular updates to her blogsite: http://thepilgrimsheart.blogspot.com. You can also hear the teachings I have given at Calvary Chapel Exeter at this link: http:// calvaryexeter.co.uk. One final note: the radio program THE SURRENDERED HEART can be heard on http:// calvarychapelradio.co.uk Monday through Friday at 7:30 am and 9:00 pm UK time. This is 8 hours ahead of Pacific Time and 7 hours ahead of Mountain Time. We are currently in the Book of Second Samuel. 4
