St. Stephen s - Chris Hoskins St. Luke s - Jayne Preston Gift Aid can boost Church finances: If you pay UK income or capital gains tax please help the Church by using the blue Gift Aid envelopes for your Open Plate donations. This will add approximately 25% to any donations you make, as the Church can reclaim the basic rate of tax from your donations. If you are or intend to donate via the Pledge Giving Scheme, you can complete a one-off Gift Aid declaration. To make a Gift Aid declaration you will need to pay UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in any tax year greater than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your Gift Aid donations in that year, or you will be responsible for any difference. Income tax includes tax credits on UK dividend income. Boosting the Church income in this way will be a very welcome additional contribution to finances. GENERAL NOTICES Rev d Andrew s Day-off this week will be Tuesday 31st January. PLEASE NOTE: Due to Synod the next edition of the Weekly Notice Sheet will cover two weeks, the weeks commencing 5th and 12th February. If you have any items you wish to go into the sheet for either of those two weeks please let me have them by 10am on Wednesday 1st February. Thank you. Sarah Sait Wedding Vergers: We ned volunteers to be wedding vergers before the wedding season begins in earnest. If you feel you can help, please speak to one of the clergy. Many thanks. Canon Anthony. Legacy Giving - Have you thought of leaving a bequest in your Will to the Anglican Church of Paphos? The Parish in Paphos receives no external funding. Our only income is from donations and collections from our regular congregation members, visitors and those attending Weddings, Funerals and other special services - so gifts from people like you make everything we do more possible. Gifts in Wills provide additional income to charities and organisations such as our Church. Depending on the size of the gift, payments to the beneficiary can be made in different ways - as a one-off payment, periodically via a trust fund, bank or invested on behalf of the beneficiary to provide future income. You can specify the purpose to which your gift can be put - general running costs, purchase of new or special equipment, building construction and maintenance - the list is endless. All donations and bequests will be gratefully received and treated in the strictest confidence. If you would like to include the Anglican Church of Paphos in your Will and need advice or information on how to proceed please visit the Giving section on our web-site at www.paphosanglicanchurch.org NOTICES FOR TODAY, THIS WEEK & NEXT SUNDAY Prayer Support Team: The Prayer Support Team will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday, 1st February, 10.30 at St. Stephen s. Please pass any updates or new requests for prayer to a member of the team or to me, Liz Jackson-Moore, on 26 652179. We always welcome new members. We will fix another time, and publish the new date in the WNS next week. Sorry for any inconvenience. Fr. Anthony Women s World Day of Prayer: This will take place on Friday 3rd March 2017, commencing 3pm at St. Stephen s. All Christian Churches in Paphos are contacted and invited to take part. NEWS RELEASES issued Sunday 22nd January 2017 Anglican Church helps to make a brighter Christmas: During the past few weeks the Anglican Church of Paphos has provided much needed funds for local voluntary organisations and brought Christmas cheer to many individuals. From clothes-filled shoe-boxes for seamen to funding spectacles for refugees, presents for children of needy families and money for local charities. For Seafarers who were far from home this Christmas, members of St Luke s Church, Prodromi (one of the three church in the Anglican Church of Paphos), donated the contents for 25 gift-wrapped Christmas boxes for The Mission To Seafarers Centre in Limassol, to join those from other Parishes on the island. The Mission s Chaplain and volunteers visited 15 ships in Port this Christmas. Some 160 Seafarers each received a box containing a wool hats, gloves or socks and a selection of toiletries and sweets. They were touched to know they had been remembered by strangers. The congregation of Ayia Kyriaki, Kato Paphos responded promptly and very generously for the second year when asked to join with other churches in the Island to give 100+ children in the refugee camp at Kofinou a beautiful Christmas experience. Father Christmas accompanied by an elf or two distributed presents at a party complete with bouncy castle, face painting, glass motif painting and friendship bracelet making. Extra money raised by Ayia Kyriaki church was used to obtain spectacles for several refugees. 70 Christmas gifts were provided by members of the St Stephen s congregation Tala through their Giving (Christmas) Tree project. The gifts were presented on 20 th Dec by Ann Bailey of St Stephen s (on left of photograph) to Mrs Helen Dagli (on right of photograph), the deputy head of the Department of Social Services in Paphos. The presents were distributed by Social Services staff to the children of needy families in Paphos later that day. Mrs Dagli had previously provided a list of the ages and genders (but not names) of the recipient children to enable the presents to be matched accordingly. Mrs Dagli and her staff were bowled over by the volume of the gifts, and expressed their extreme gratitude on behalf of the children who would receive them. The Anglican Church of Paphos Annual Christmas Fayre held in December at the Monte Liza Wedding Venue in Mesogi Avenue, again raised more than 10,000 Euros for distribution to 23 local charities both large and small. More than 100 members of the three church 4

congregations were involved in the event which has been on the fundraising calendar for some 30 years and raised over 250,000 Euros for charity. Christians United in Worship On Friday 20 th January nearly 100 people representing five churches in Paphos, joined together in a service for The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, an international occasion marked by Christians throughout the world and occurs on a yearly basis. The service was held in the Greek Orthodox church of Ayia Chrysopolitissa in Kato Paphos, otherwise known as the church by St. Paul s Pillar. The theme of the service was Crossing Barriers: Reconciliation The love of Christ compels us, 2 Corinthians 5:14-20. Considering the present world situation, it is very relevant. During the service a symbolic wall was built of twelve stones by members of the various churches. Later, during a solo Amazing Grace sung by opera singer Judith Evans-Davies, the wall was dismantled and the stones laid out on the floor of the church in the shape of a cross. It was a very moving occasion shared by the five churches - The Latin Church, The Anglican Church, The Paphos Christian Fellowship International, The New Testament Community Church and The Calvary Chapel. At the end of the service a single candle was carried through the church to the main door; Jesus is the light of the world, a light that darkness cannot overcome and as people left the church they had the opportunity to light a taper from the candle and carry it out into the world. There will be three walking routes to choose from, all designated to enable serious more experienced or enthusiastic walkers from the 5

Distance approximately 30 kms. 2. Sea Caves to Agios Georgios and back (return is optional) led by Ian Geddes. Distance approximately 12 kms. 3. Sea Caves to Coral Bay/Corallia Beach and back (return is optional) led by Rev d Andrew Burtt. Distance approximately 7 kms. Other organisations will be encouraged to join us e.g. charities, local Associations and those benefitting from the ACP Christmas Fayre. Peter Latham will be acting as the Treasurer for the event and Gerald Payne has undertaken to arrange a press release and publicity. Chris Hoskins will be arranging First Aid to be available with each walk. The next meeting of the MFRT/SC will be held at St Stephen s (12 noon) on Friday 17 th February to which church members who wish to help with the event are welcome to attend.
