FAITH FORMATION FOR ADULTS, YOUTH & CHILDREN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE: 865-9370 OFFICE HOURS: MONDAY : 1 PM TO 3PM TUESDAY : 1 PM TO 5 PM WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: 9 AM TO 5 PM CLOSED ON FRIDAYS Deep in our hearts we yearn for what is grand and beautiful in life. Do not let your desires and aspirations dissipate, but ground them in Jesus Christ. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Saturday is the feast of the Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Let s ask for their intercession this week! LITURGY CORNER Friday, September 14 was the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This feast commemorates the finding of Jesus cross in 326, the consecration of Jerusalem s Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher some ten years later, and the recovery in 628 or 629 by Emperor Heraclius of a major portion of the cross that had been removed by the Persians from its place of veneration in Jerusalem. According to the Catechism of the Catholic, paragraph 1085, the Exaltation of the Cross consists in the fact that the event of the Cross and Resurrection abides and draws everything toward life. According to Saint Leo the Great the sign of the cross makes kings of all those reborn in Christ. Without the Cross there can be no Resurrection. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Thursday, September 27 is the Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul. Saint Vincent was born in Gascony, France, and ordained to the priesthood in 1581. He preached that one of his parish families was in need and received so much food that he found other families with whom to share. From there he began the Confraternity of Charity to provide ongoing help for those in need. He founded the Daughters of Charity with Louise de Marillac and the Congregation of the Mission. The Saint Vincent de Paul Society was founded by Blessed Frederick Ozanam in Paris in 1833 and was originally intended to instruct young men in the Catholic faith to help them counter attacks on the. Saint Vincent de Paul was known for his works of mercy. When Blessed Frederick realized that the best way to demonstrate Catholic commitment was through works of charity, he chose Saint Vincent de Paul as the patron of the society. Have a good week in the Lord, Gay Snell

A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. This is a great way to pray together as a family. If you are interested in hosting the Vocations Chalice in your home, please contact the Parish Office at 865-7385 and leave a message for Ann Krom. Open the hearts of Your sons and daughters to listen to Your call in their lives. Give them the gift of understanding to discern Your invitation to serve You and Your. Give them the gift of courage to follow Your call. May they have the spirit of young Samuel who found fulfillment in his life when he said to You, Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.
