Mountainous digital drawing with my imagination Josh Lee WHY TWELVESTONES (#2) PAGES: 10 READING TIME: 30 minutes Chapter 1 / 4 - SURPRISE This is a continuation of the blog on The Journey Out. 30 September 2010 Hey, there is a book with my name on it. This happened on the last day of my leave, very early into the morning. I opened the bible and started reading. Joshua 1:1 After the DEATH of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses assistant, saying As I begin to chew on verse 1, I FROZE. This book begins with a death. I thought to myself is the LORD trying to tell me something here? There seems to be a death in my situation. 1

An END of an era or season for me?! I read on. Joshua 1:2 Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise GO OVER this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them the children of Israel. I froze again. I got the word GO OVER. Is God trying to tell me to MOVE ON? I read on to Verse 6 Be strong and of good courage Verse 7 Only be strong and very courageous I read on until verse 8. Many know this verse about meditation on God s Word. As I chew on this, I said Lord, You taught me the important of meditating / eating Your Word one day at a time in March 2010. When I said that, I suddenly realized that He ALREADY HAD MY ANSWER to my future since March 2010. (I meant that in the time frame but He has all our answers before time began.) In March 2010, He taught me simply regarding meditation on His Word that helped me out of most trying challenge in my life and six months later, He is waiting for me to be ready to read the book of Joshua for His guidance. I WAS STUNNED! He always has my answer and I just need to take the time to simply eat and let Him be God to lead and guide us in our journey with Him. The next verse: Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? BE STRONG and of good courage; do not be afraid for the LORD your God is with you wherever you GO. The word GO is mentioned twice in chapter 1 alone. I asked Lord, are you telling me I am not supposed to be here (my employment) anymore and You wanted me to move on? He didn t say anything but the answer is beginning to become obvious. Till here, there are many verses on Be Strong and Courageous. This is what I needed if I were to move on. I need lots of courage to trust Him into the unknown future. 2

I read on from chapter 1 to chapter 3. Joshua chapter 3 is about the instructions to cross over River Jordan. Joshua 3:4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it (the Ark), about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must GO for you HAVE NOT PASSED THIS WAY before. I saw the 3 rd GO. To move on to next chapter of my life is surely something I HAVE NOT PASSED THIS WAY before! Things are starting to become clearer but I still had my doubts as I wanted something strong and powerful that I know that it is Him leading and guiding me in this major decision of my life. I continued reading till the end of chapter 6, I closed my bible and went to sleep. The same morning when I woke up, I started sharing with my wife about what the LORD has revealed to me. She told me later that she already knew the decision was to GO at the beginning of September but didn t want to tell me about it because I needed to discover on my own. WHY TWELVESTONES Chapter 2 / 4 - CORNERED BY GOD I will never forget 30 th September 2010. The last day of my leave. There was an EGM (Extra General Meeting) that evening. As I am exempted from all kinds of meetings (other than Sunday service) during my leave, I thought to myself, This is an important meeting, they need a quorum, I m in town. I have rested for 30 days. It s best that I show up for the EGM. I went. I was shocked when the EGM is ONLY 15 mins long. From 7pm to 7.15pm. I was like What? That s it? Then someone made an announcement that there is another meeting with a guest pastor at 7.30pm. What? 3

Who s coming? I m not aware of this other meeting. Then I remembered. There was a push mail to our phone regarding this other meeting. Initially, it was scheduled during office hours and for staff only. I conveniently deleted that text as I was on leave and I didn t need to attend. Later they changed that meeting to the night as to include the staff and the leaders. They then planned to have a short EGM since the staff and leaders are coming together but I did not see that both meetings are held on the same day. I was kind of frustrated as I did not expect to have another meeting other than the EGM. Reluctantly, I stayed back and during the praise and worship, 3 things dawned on me: 1) My leave not over yet! This is my last day, 30/9/2010! 2) Rarely we have a midweek service in 2010! 3) GOD MAY SPEAK! I was excited when I realised that God may speak to me through this guest pastor. The Speaker came up and took the microphone and after her introduction, the first thing she said was Let s turn our Bible to the book of. JOSHUA Chapter 1!?! When she said that I was stunned! I looked at my wife and she looked at me and smiled J We both knew that God was speaking to us and giving us the CONFIRMATION of what He had shown me on the same day earlier in the morning. Well, she narrated the entire Chapter 1 and used it as a platform to launch into what she wanted to preach. As I was listening attentively throughout the entire sermon, I saw no link to the book of Joshua. I went home and said LORD, YOU SET ME UP! He knew that I will not be going if the meeting was in the daytime. I asked HR why did the management decide to change the day meeting to the night? They said that it was a last-minute decision to include the leaders. The LORD knows how to get our attention. It seems like HE CORNERED ME when He orchestrated natural circumstances in such way for me to hear the confirmation from Him! Now, with all these happening in one day, I still had my doubts as the way to interpret those verses on GO for it varies with different people. For example: I thought I may have panicked on the last day and somehow, I discovered maybe by fluke or chance that it happened that there is a book in the Bible with my name on it. How then do I know the interpretation with the 3 GO s plus Have not passed this way before was from Him to move on? 4

There may have another interpretation as well. For example, if the church decides to have an overseas satellite venue in the region, perhaps the first person to go and helm the first overseas satellite venue might be me as I was then the mission pastor. If this happened and I m sent overseas, wouldn t the interpretation to the 3 GO mean to stay on and take on a different portfolio? Joshua 1:2 GO OVER Sent overseas to a satellite venue? Joshua 1:9 With me wherever I GO He is with me at overseas satellite venue, isn t He? Joshua 3:4 Have not passed this way BEFORE I have never taken this portfolio before? Some may comment that I think too much or worry too much. In all honesty, what may worry others, may not worry you and vice versa. I realised everyone has thoughts at the back of their mind. Just because I vocalised them does not mean I think too much. I just wanted to reveal that all of us at some point have such thoughts especially when it comes to major decision in our lives. As you can see by now, the reason I wanted to cover every angle as much as possible is because I wanted something strong and powerful that I know IT IS HIM and not from a psychological and pseudo mentality in making decisions and facing life s challenges. I want to run the marathon and have strength to last the long haul. How about you? Back to my story, on the first Sunday in November 2010, I updated my Pastor about my decision. He kindly released me and prayed for me as I move on to the next chapter of my journey with the LORD JESUS. He told me that the more important thing in seeking the LORD for answer was that the Scripture speaks to me FIRST and then the CONFIRMATION comes after. Not the other way around. I understood what he meant. I was thinking back during the 3 rd week, when I panicked, I could have gone to the bible and pick up verses about GOING. Perhaps one verse from the book of Genesis, Psalms and Revelations. Even when there s confirmation, I will never know that it was God s leading especially when I face disappointments along my journey. Why did I choose those verses to GO, why didn t I choose those verses to STAY? Even with the confirmation God gave me on the evening of 30 th, I still had my doubts (as I could have interpreted the way I wanted) though I have decided to GO. 5

Remember I wanted something so strong and so powerful even though the confirmation was wonderful, I didn t realize that He has already shown me something so strong and so powerful to me. I did not know why when I shared this next thing (which happened to me on 30 th September) to my Pastor. On hind sight, after sharing with him, I realized that what I shared with him BECAME THE CLINCHER that I knew it was GOD who was leading and speaking to me that night. The way I interpret to go was from Him as I have never seen the way HE revealed the truths of Joshua chapter 4 to me before. WHY TWELVESTONES Chapter 3 / 4 - THE PULL FACTOR Native looking for sea clam early morning in Kenjaran, Surabaya, Indonesia Josh Lee This is the clincher. In Joshua 4, the Scriptures state that after the 12 tribes crossed over River Jordan, God commanded them to take one man from every tribe 12 men to take one stone each 12 stones and carry it on their shoulders to Gilgal. When I read this chapter, 12 tribes, 12 men and 12 stones. 6

What could they mean? God is my witness, I closed my bible and with my finger, I started drawing as the picture came to my imagination. My friends have asked me Why did I suddenly draw this? I said I don t know, it just came as I closed my eyes after I meditated on what does 12 stones means? As I drew, I thought to myself that it cannot be 12, can it? I begin with the red line and counted. WOW! Never saw that before! I am not saying that they placed the stones in the shape of the cross in Gilgal. What I am saying is that I did not know that there are 12 corners or 12 lines on the cross. Do you remember that when the children of Israel camped in the wilderness with 3 tribes on each side around the Tabernacle of Moses, they formed the shaped of the Cross? As I continued to look further, I found similarities between the number 12 and the Cross! Example 1: Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given and the government will be upon His shoulder and His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. The number 12 is Bible numeric for Divine Government and the 12 men carried the stones on their shoulders. It seems like there is a correlation. Jesus could have carried the Cross on His shoulders to Golgotha and the Cross could probably represent the Government of 7

God and He will judge the world based on the perfect and complete Work of His Son on the Cross. Example 2: 1 Kings 18:16-45 The showdown between Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. The challenge is the God who answers by fire, He is God! As you read the story, the prophets of Baal started first, calling on their god Baal with shouting, dancing and even cutting themselves till they bleed. There was no response from Baal. Then it was Elijah s turn. He prepared the sacrifice and from verse 31-35, Elijah took 12 stones, one for each tribes of Israel, set up as an altar, put the wood and the sacrifice on it and even dug a trench so big and deep that 12 (4 large jars x 3) large jars of water filled it. At the time of the evening sacrifice, Elijah prayed and fire came from heaven and consumed not just the animal sacrifice, the wood, and licked up the water as well. On top of that, the 12 stones were also consumed! Question: Now, if the 12 stones ONLY represented the 12 tribes of Israel, what does it mean when the 12 stones disappeared? Were the 12 tribes consumed by the fire of God? Were the 12 tribes judged? No. Perhaps the 12 stones do not JUST represent the 12 tribes of Israel. Perhaps to God, the 12 stones represent something GREATER. If the 12 tribes represent the Cross of Jesus, it made perfect sense. The fire of judgement came down on JESUS instead of His people and the purpose was to turn an entire nation back to God! Example 3: The Wilderness Journey of Israel When the children of Israel came out of bondage in Egypt, they were in the journey to the promise land. Whenever they stopped and camped along the way, they formed the shape of the Cross in the wilderness. Perhaps then the 12 stones do not JUST represent the 12 tribes only, but the 12 tribes represent the Cross to God. Perhaps the reason why there are multiples of 12 in the new heavenly Jerusalem is because nothing pleased God for all of eternity except what His Son has done on the Cross for all mankind! Perhaps, could this also be the reason Jesus chose 12 disciples? 8

Not just representing divine government but it could very much represent the Cross, even before the LORD Jesus came on the earth! I tried to search the internet with keywords relating to 12 stones and it gave me the usual common result but not what the LORD showed me relating to the Cross. As I have never seen or heard or read this meaning of 12 stones relating to the Cross which He showed me on the same night of 30 th September 2010, I knew that it was HIM speaking and giving me the answer to GO and move on! THE ONLY PULL FACTOR WAS THE LORD REVEALING TWELVESTONES TO ME. Business has never been the pull factor for me from day 1. I started a business as a means to support my family. WHY TWELVESTONES Chapter 4 / 4 - THE CALL In the year 2013, as I was sharing with a group of friends after a meal, I came to this juncture of my sharing on TWELVESTONES and I was stunned! I saw another aspect relating to it. All the while I thought TWELVESTONES was commercial / business but little did I realise that there was MINISTRY in there. TWELVE to me was the Cross! STONES can be referred to people as 1 Peter 2:5 states that we are like living stones built into a spiritual house. Suddenly I realised that there is still the CALL OF GOD on my life to minister to God s people saved by faith in His grace. Amen. In the year 2014, I started traveling for ministry again. I travel about 12x in 2014. At the last trip of that year, I was privileged to lead a group (mainly Indonesians) to Israel. Our first stop was in Mount Nebo, Jordan, which is Moses last stop. Then we entered Israel over River Jordan via Allenby Bridge and straight to Galilee. When I reached the sea of Galilee, I was pondering to myself that this whole route seems so Déjà vu to me. I know I have done this route many times before but there s something familiar. What was it? Then I recalled. 9

4 years ago, when God spoke to me in September 2010 via the story of the book of Joshua chapter 1, it begins with: Verse 1: The death of Moses = Literally, I was at Mount Nebo Verse 2: Arise Go over Jordan = Literally I went over Jordan. 4 years earlier, it was just a story that lead me out of my comfort zone (not knowing what exactly I am going to do). After crossing River Jordan, what was I doing? I was sharing from the bible, relating stories and miracles of Jesus in the sea of Galilee, went to Mount Hermon sharing on the Transfiguration of Jesus, and in Jerusalem, the city of David and the Dead Sea. Then I realized the purpose that I crossed River Jordan was still to share and minister God s Word. I still have the call of God in my life! One of my friend said Thank God it took you only 4 years to discover why God lead you to move on and not 40 years wondering in the wilderness. JJJ I believe God wants to lead us and assure us and reassure and reassure us again and again that He is with us on this journey of life but perhaps our eyes are on the wrong things. Perhaps the reason why I could see all these seemingly insignificant details is because I simply eat and take one day at a time and let Him be the GOD of my life! (Continue on my blog ON THE EDGE ) Disclaimer: I know our journey differs from one another and I m not advocating that I m right and everyone else is wrong. I felt that I needed to pen this down and made it freely available to anyone whom God has orchestrated our paths to cross. If you are just curious don t read but if you feel the LORD is leading you, then be my guest. I will not entertain either positive or negative comments. I did not share to gain followers or members or have someone pat on my back. Just sharing my thoughts. If it did help you, Great. Otherwise, just leave it J 10
