Our classes are taught over several weeks to systematically introduce postures and develop strength and flexibility. All of our classes conclude with a guided relaxation. Yoga 1: Beginning Level Begin (or build) your training with a balanced program of yoga stretches and postures that are accessible to almost any ability level. Yoga 2: Continuing Level Enhancements to basic postures are introduced. Various breathing exercises, subtler relaxation methods, and deeper meditation skills are developed. Yoga 3: Experienced Level Practice new and more challenging postures to build endurance, strength and flexibility. Explore pranayama and breathing exercises to increase energy and focus the mind. ^ Yoga for Core Strength and Meditation Designed to help develop progressive core strength, this class includes core muscle-isolation exercises interwoven within a classical asana sequence. Prerequisite: 6 months prior experience with Yoga 1 or greater. ^ Gentle Yoga Mild stretches and movements that work to improve range of motion and ease joint pain or stiffness. MAY Yin Yoga with Bonnie Wednesdays, May 2 - June 20 (8 wks), 5-6:30 pm The practice of Yin Yoga is a slow-paced method in which poses are held for extended periods of time with a focus on increasing circulation and energetic flow into joints, ligaments and connective tissues. Poses are held for several minutes as you bring awareness deep into your body. This quieting practice inspires focus and inner calm and is complementary to the more active asana styles. This is an all-level class. Fee: $72 (ID: S31) YOGA PHILOSOPHY The Bhagavad Gita in Daily Living with Julia Thursdays, May 3-17 (3 wks), 7-9 pm The Bhagavad Gita is highly regarded in the yoga world for its profound wisdom conveyed through the story of a teacher and student. The text beautifully weaves the reader through the four paths of yoga: Raja, Karma, Jnana, and Bhakti. In our discussion we will explore these paths as essential in daily decision making and experiencing meaning in life. We will also explore how this ancient text remains relevant today and can guide us on our own spiritual healing journey. Through shared inquiry, we will be able to understand its purpose, take it to heart and put theories into practice. Yoga to Manage Moods Saturday, May 12, 10 - noon with Carissa Yoga provides a holistic approach to mood and symptom management. Using a combination of gentle physical poses, mindful breathing and relaxation techniques, participants will feel more connected and balanced within the body and mind. We will begin with a docent-led tour of this incredible complex, followed by gentle yoga and guided meditation with Bonnie in the Greatbatch Pavilion. The pavilion s glass-walls link the exterior with the interior, creating a natural environment for peaceful reflection. We will close with a tea reception. On the Mat & In the Kitchen Saturday, June 2 9:30 am - 3 pm (includes lunch) with Sarah Guglielmi and Julia Kress At its core, Ayurveda understands that all of us have a unique nature, or Ayurvedic constitution, that follows the rhythms of Mother Nature. However, as the heat of summer rises, there is a tendency to get overheated and irritable. Join Sarah and Julia for a day of yoga practice and kitchen demonstration. Learn specific asana, pranayama, and recipe remedies you can use to beat the summer heat! Our morning will begin by reviewing how the elements and doshas are impacted by the summer season.
