68 Comprehension Read this exciting story to each other in your groups, then answer the questions. Mr Willie Wonka was the owner of a chocolate factory. He had decided to have a competition so that he would sell more chocolates. Five golden tickets, worth a lot of Charlie s family was very poor, so poor that Charlie had a bar of chocolate only once a year, on his birthday. His birthday had past and he had not found the last golden ticket. One day he found a two rand piece in the street and decided to buy one bar of chocolate and take the change home. Charlie entered the shop and laid the two rand piece on the counter. One Fudge Bar he said, remembering how much he had liked the one he had on his birthday. The man behind the counter turned and reached behind him for the chocolate bar, then he turned back again and handed it to Charlie. Charlie grabbed it, quickly tore off the wrapper and took an enormous bite. Charlie ate the chocolate quickly. He couldn t stop. In less than half a minute, the whole thing had disappeared down his throat. He was quite out of breath, but he felt very, very happy. He reached out a hand to take the change. Then he paused. His eyes were just above the level of the counter. They were staring at the copper coins Surely it wouldn t matter if he spent just one more... I think, he said quietly, I think... I ll have just one more of those chocolate bars. The same kind as before please. Why not? the fat shopkeeper said, reaching behind him again and taking another Fudge Bar from the shelf. He laid it on the counter. Charlie picked it up and tore off the wrapper... and suddenly... from underneath the Charlie s heart stood still. It s a Golden Ticket! screamed the shopkeeper, leaping about half a meter in the air. You ve got a Golden Ticket! You ve found the last Golden Ticket! Hey, would you believe it! Come and look at this, everybody! Charlie s found Wonka s last Golden Ticket! There it is! It s right here in his hands! It seemed as though the shopkeeper might be going to here in my own little shop! Somebody call the newspaper quickly and let them know! Watch out now, sonny! Don t tear it as you unwrap it! Read Jesus commanded sickness and death Jesus said that He was the Son of God. He told people that He came from God. Then He showed them that He came from God by doing many wonderful deeds. He showed these by calming the wind and the sea. He showed these by healing the sick. Even death obeyed Him. A doctor can help people who are sick. He can give them medicine. But he cannot make them well. Only God can make sick people well. Only He can make dead people alive again. Jesus could do that, because He is God. The Bible tells us about a little girl who was very sick. Her father, Jairus, called the doctor. The doctor s medicine did not help. They were afraid the little girl would die. When Jairus found Jesus, he fell at His feet and said: Oh, please come to my house right away. My little daughter is dying! There were many people around Jesus. He could not hurry. A woman was sick. She came close to Jesus and touched His robe. Jesus felt her touch His robe, and He stopped to talk to her. Jairus had to wait. He did not want to wait. His little daughter was so very sick. He was sure she was dying. He wanted Jesus to hurry. Then somebody came running - somebody from Jairus house. He said: It s too late. Your little daughter is dead. Oh, Jairus was so sad! If Jesus had only hurried! But Jesus said: Don t be afraid. Just believe. It was not too late - not too late for Him. Jairus did not know that Jesus could make his little daughter well even after she had died. Now Jesus went along with Jairus. They found the little girl lying on her bed. People in the house were crying. She was dead. But Jesus took her hand. He said: Little girl, get up! She got up. She was alive again. And she was well. Jesus told her mother to give her something to eat. Jesus is wonderful. He is almighty, because He is God. When we are sick, we pray to Him. He can make us well. He does not always make sick people well. There is a time for each of us to die. That does not matter though, because if we love Him, we will go to Him when we die, to live with Him in heaven forever. He has promised that. He can make us well if that is His will, because He has all the power - even power over sickness and death. 76
