Mission Pickup July 31 Church wide Pool Party @ Southland From the Associate Pastor s Desk As I look at the life of our church and the life of my family I realize that we have all been through a whirlwind of a transition. For us that has meant preaching my last sermon in the two churches I was serving one day and leaving with the Christ UMC Youth Ministry for camp the very next day. For you all that has meant letting go of one beloved family to the calling of God and gaining a new family (hopefully soon to be beloved) on the same Sunday. As we navigate these transitions together, I thought it might be nice to give you a word of introduction about myself. First, I want you to know my family. I have been married to my beautiful and thoughtful wife Emily for 11 years this July. We have two children: Jonas who is seven and Willow who is five. Let me tell you about two things that I love; I love the outdoors and I love student ministry. I am an avid outdoorsman; I love hiking, camping, running, biking, hunting, fishing, canoeing, basically anything that allows me to be outside in God s creation. As much as I love nature I have an even deeper love of student ministry. Emily and I took our first student ministry position 12 years ago at Greenhill UMC in Alvaton and we have been engaged in student ministry in one form or another ever since. Even during my time as senior pastor in Russellville I have been highly involved with their student ministries. In many ways we view this return to student ministries as an answer to prayers. When I was about to begin my seminary career I knew that God had called me toward becoming an ordained elder in our church but was troubled because I could not see how that calling was going to fit with my love for students and student ministry. I can clearly remember praying for clarity how the calling and the passions that God had given me fit together. Now, years later, God has answered our prayers; I am on my way to becoming a fully ordained elder and I have been the given the amazing opportunity to work with students both here at Christ UMC and as the campus pastor/director of the Wesley Foundation at WKU. God is indeed faithful and patient. My entire family is excited to be with you all and look forward to learning about and growing in our love for you and your families in the months and years ahead.
