The Living Reminder God's Purpose for Our Saviour's Lutheran Church is to joyfully share God's love with all. Volume 18 Issue 11 NOVEMBER 2018 Dear Friends, Grace and peace to you through our Lord Jesus Christ! The month of November literally overflows with God s grace and peace. Look around you and see the changes in the scenery, the difference in your loved ones, and the profound goodness of God. This month we transition to colder weather and powerful, ancient words from the Bible. On All Saints Sunday November 4 we read John 11:40, and hear the words of Jesus, Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God? In the power of these words, Christ raised the dead! On November 11 we hear the words from Hebrews 13,28: so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him On November 18 we read Mark 13:11, When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given to you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. Finally, on November 25 we celebrate Christ the King Sunday. Jesus is given the title of king, even though he is nothing like an earthly king. Yet, on this, the last Sunday of the church year, our minds and hearts are changed forever by the unmatchable love of Jesus Christ. In the Bible we have testimony of his love, his grace, his power, and his eternal promises. Come to Our Saviour s Lutheran Church in Casper Wyoming, to this beautiful congregation of witnesses to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here we experience the reality of our purpose statement, God s purpose for Our Saviour s Lutheran Church is to joyfully share God s love with all. May God bless you and keep you, Pastor Jo Ann Neal

Dear Members, Tina Wulf will soon complete her time as Office Manager at Our Saviour s. She has served the Congregation in an excellent way for over eight years. All of us are grateful for her faith and dedication to service. She will be missed very much by the Executive Council, Ministry Team Leaders and for me, there will be the absence of a great co-worker who can never be replaced. To show our appreciate, the Church Council is planning a Reception after worship on Sunday, November 4th in honor of Tina. Please plan to be present ant to let her know what her employment at OSL has meant for you. We ll have a basket where you may place a greeting card. Thanks for showing Tina your good wishes. Always in Christ, Pastor Jo Ann Our Saviour s Lutheran Church will be receiving new members this month. There is a New Member Meeting on Tuesday, November 6 at 6:00 PM with Pastor Jo Ann Neal, and our New Member Reception is Sunday, November 11.

WOMEN OF OUR SAVIOUR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH Ladies our Fall meeting has arrived! We have many upcoming events to discuss and make arrangements for, therefore please plan on attending to assist in these decisions. Your input is always welcome. We also will be discussing the upcoming New Year, 2019, and need fresh ideas for the unity of the women in faith here at OSL. Mark your calendars! DATE: November 3, 2018 TIME: 9:00 am - 11:00 am PLACE: Fellowship Hall OSL basement A light breakfast will be served. Bring a friend and join us for a morning of fellowship and friendships. All women are invited and welcome to attend!

We are so excited to announce the development of our new website www.casperoslpreschool.com! Last year the Preschool Committee hired member, Katie Caldwell, to create a website to reach out to our community to promote information about our wonderful program for children. Now when families are looking for a preschool/child care for their child, OSL Preschool will be listed in their search. Check it out for information on what we do, as well as information on our dedicated and caring staff. Also, don t forget to like our Facebook page, Our Saviours Lutheran Preschool. We will miss seeing Tina in our program, but send out best wishes and blessings to her as she leaves us to start new adventures in her journey of life. As we begin to think of the approaching holidays, we are asking the congregation members for donations of nativity scenes. If you are downsizing, cleaning, or just want to get rid of your used nativity scene, consider donating yours no matter what size, to the preschool. We want to fill our Gathering Room with them for the Christmas season and bring them out every year. As we begin to teach about the birth of Christ, it would be nice for the children to use their imaginations as they explore the nativities as they celebrate this important time of year. Dianna Webb, Director Our Saviour's Lutheran Preschool 531 S. Durbin St. Casper, WY 82601 (307) 577-4006 Office The Church-in-Society Committee will have a Turkey Drive for our food recipients in November. Small turkeys, whole chickens, and turkey breasts are needed. Many of our recipients are unable to cook a large turkey and we have limited freezer space to store them. Please bring donated turkeys and chickens to the church before November 14. Thank you from the CIS Committee. NOVEMBER GREETERS 4th: Barb Martinson, Katie Zurn 11th: Gina, Jo Anne Siebke 18th: Travis & Cynthia Sides 25th: Barb Bowen, Dude Van Tassel Lectionary Text Studies* November 7, 14, 21, 28 10:30 am in Conference Room w/pastor Jo Ann *To explore each week s upcoming Sunday lessons.

The Sanctuary Singers have a new Cantata to be presented December 9th during the service with orchestra. It is CHRISTMAS PRESENCE by Pepper Choplin. We will soon be incorporating it into our Sunday rehearsals, which take place at 8:15 am before the service begins and after worship until close to 11:00 am. We would love to have you join us! The Festival Choir and Orchestra concert will take place at OSL on December 8th at 7:30pm. This community project, directed by Carolyn Deuel, began in 1978, and singers are invited to come together for six rehearsals, culminating in the concert. Rehearsals are Saturdays in November (except 11/24) at 4:00 p.m. A $15 donation by choir members assists with the cost of music. November 4 is All Saints Sunday. Please remember to provide the church office (office@oslwyo.org) with the name of your loved one as soon as possible so we may recognize all Our Saviour s loved ones who have passed this year during our All Saints Sunday Remembrance on November 4. I m with her. He s with me.

Our Saviour s Lutheran Church October 15, 2018 Council Meeting Minutes GOD S PURPOSE FOR OUR SAVIOUR S LUTHERAN CHURCH IS TO JOYFULLY SHARE GOD S LOVE WITH ALL. Present: Bill Hunt, Sonja Leimback, Ralph Stanley, Michael Stanley, Bob Whited, Calvin Whited, Lance Neiberger, Travis Sides, Cynthia Sides, Pastor Jo Ann Neal, Cheryl Wrasper, Randy Sides, Patrick Sides, Lynsey Sides, and Berta Hartford Absent: Dave Branson, Connie Arnold, T.J. McLaughlin, and Doris Waddell The meeting was Called to Order by President Bill Hunt at 7:04 p.m. Pastor Jo Ann led an Opening Prayer. Two items were added to New Business on the Agenda: Move the Youth Room and an Appreciation Event for Tina. Motion was made and seconded (Lance/Cheryl) for Approval of the Agenda. The agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes from the September 10, 2018, special council meeting. Cheryl requested an amendment to add Dave Branson to the absent list. Upon motion (Bob/Travis), the amended minutes were approved. The Treasurer s Report was reviewed. Lance reported an inaccuracy in the accounting of the WOSL, Men s Group, Church in Society, and Preschool. He is looking into clarifying this. The preschool has lost around $65,000 in the last few years; EC will be meeting with the Preschool Director to review this. Teams need to look at their expenses and be sure the accounting is accurate. There is a reconciliation account showing an amount of $10,599.85. Lance explained when the computer system switched to the cloud, this money was unaccounted for. QuickBooks recommended listing it this way. Cynthia mentioned QuickBooks should have insurance to include recovery of lost data. Lance will look into this. Teams should begin preparing budgets for 2019. The Council Budget Meeting will be November 12 at 7:00 p.m. Budgets need to be turned in to Lance a couple weeks prior to that. The Nursery Attendant is a paid position. We need to look into training for this position. The Treasurer s Report was, upon motion (Lynsey/Sonja), approved. NEW BUSINESS: 2019 Preliminary Budget was covered in the Treasurer s Report. November 12 th Special Council Budget Meeting at 7:00 p.m. December 2 nd Congregational Budget & Election Meeting after Worship February 24 th Annual Congregational Meeting after Worship All annual reports are due one month prior. Lutheran World Hunger Noisy Offering Request - Pastor Jo Ann would like the Noisy Offering to benefit Lutheran World Hunger. She explained where this money would go. If we gave to the same organization for one year, the congregation could lose interest. Motion was made and seconded (lance/travis) for Noisy Offering to benefit Lutheran World Hunger the first quarter of 2019. This motion was approved. At the first council meeting in 2019, we will determine the Noisy Offering recipients for 2019. Move Youth Room The OSL youth need more space. It would be nice to have the ping pong and air hockey tables always available for use. Although the nursery would be a great room to switch with, the nursery must have the bathroom. Use of the confirmation room was discussed. The Youth, Education, and Prayer groups need to discuss this move. Lynsey, Pastor, and Connie will discuss this and email council when a decision is reached. OLD BUSINESS There was no old business. REPORTS: Worship - Doris submitted a written report. Fellowship Would like to plan another game night or other social get-togethers. Christian Ed - No report; Youth No report. Church in Society Sonja reviewed how CIS uses Food Bank of the Rockies, the amount of food we are able to purchase, receive for free, the low cost of this, and the type of food included in the monthly distribution boxes. All produce is always free. Bill mentioned that some congregants have requested a later Sunday service or maybe a Saturday service. Adjourned with The Lord s Prayer. Respectfully submitted, Berta Hartford Minutes reformatted to fit newsletter - tw
