Throughout the week, there will be running, fighting, and racing. Today is the first day of the ceremonies, which means that there will be sacrifices throughout the day. In this article, we will walk you through each of the sports that is in the center of the games. The first and most popular sport that will be played tomorrow is the stadion. The stadion requires participants to run the length of one stade, or stadium. Later in the week there will be 2-4 stade races, and then the longest, the 7-24 stade race. During the 2-4 stade race, contestants are required to wear full armour to build up speed and stamina for military purposes. During the rest of the week there will also be wrestling, boxing, and pancratium, which is a mix of the two. The rules of wrestling are simple: the aim is to throw your opponent to the ground three times on his hip, back, or shoulder. You are not allowed to bite the other player. Boxing is the same, except contestants must wind leather over their fingers to deaden the blows. Pancratium is the most rigorous of the three. The sport lasts only until one of the players admits defeat. After the middle day of the week where we will sacrifice 100 oxens to a god, we will continue with the sports. Horse racing is a very popular attraction in these games. There are six laps of the stadium, and separate races for the riders ride with no stirrups. Whichever horse wins is awarded the olive wreath. But not to the rider, dear readers! The owner of the horse actually keeps the prize, and the rider goes home with nothing. Later, there will be 2 and 4 horse chariot races, with other races for chariots pulled by foals. There is also a race between a cart drawn by teams of two mules, which is 12 laps around the stadium. On the last day of the games, there will be the pentathlon, which consists of sprinting, long-jumping, javelin-hurling, discus-throwing, and wrestling. There are different sizes of javelins and discuses for different age groups, from stone, iron, bronze, and lead. In long jump, contestants use weights to help them go further, and to propel him. These games will make us unite better as a nation, and lead us to a more prosperous future! Let the games begin!

Theophrastus and Aristotle's Latest Discovery The well-known philosopher, Aristotle, made a new discovery today, while out on a research expedition with his partner, the botanist, Theophrastus. He discovered a new plant, with long narrow green leaves, little blue flowers with small round petals and a yellow centre that had a cone shape. Theophrastus soon classified and named the plant, Blue Bell, for its cone shape and colour. Meet Aristotle As we know, Aristotle has made many discoveries in the past, discovering more and more plants every month, and to celebrate all of his latest discoveries the city council is holding him a meeting where they will award him for his new discoveries. After they will hold him a local formal get-together, where the public can ask him questions and maybe learn a thing or two! Drop by from 6-10pm this Friday to meet Aristotle! Meet Theophrastus Great news for the Theophrastus followers out there too, he will be making at speech at the city centre this coming Tuesday! He says that first and foremost he will be talking about the newest discovery, then he will continue on talking about his past discoveries, and finally talk about what he hopes for his future in Botany. He will be doing his speech at 3pm to 5pm, and answering questions until 7pm. Come to the city centre early to reserve a seat. Meet Archimedes Archimedes has just proven that the sphere has two thirds of the volume and surface area of the cylinder. He has been working on trying to prove this theory for a few years now and he has just officially proven that it is indeed true. Archimedes will be travelling around Greece and will be doing speeches at each town, giving information on his new theory. He will be coming to our city centre next Friday from noon to 3pm, and answering all questions after that for however long it takes. He's told us he wants a good turn out so bring everyone you can to hear about this genius' new discovery! Archytas' Invention Archytas has just designed and built the first self-propelled flying machine!! He has been studying and working on this invention for many years making thousands of prototypes, all ending in failure, but now he has finally invented one that can successfully fly!! It is a bird-shaped model propelled by a jet of steam, the furthest it has flown so far is around 200 meters. Archytas is thrilled with his new invention and hopes that this new invention will lead to greater discovries and inventions in the near future. The Life and Times of Ancient Greece In everyday news today, we have a few announcements to make. First, the theatre will be hosting a show tonight depicting the great god Zeus doing mighty things. Remember, women are not allowed to view these shows, and women performing in the show is illegal. Also, tomorrow the women of the city will be hosting a craft, pottery, and weaving sale. In farming news, the climate is making it difficult to farm right now, but soon we will be able to pick grapes to make into wine for festivals. Also, olives are ripe right now, and farmers are looking for help picking the olives, and are willing to pay people for their help. Our third announcement is that boys will be putting on a game of hockey later in the week and welcome any man who wants to come watch and cheer on their teams. Women again are not allowed to watch, as the boys will be playing the game naked. If you are in the mood for a more laid back game to watch, a group of men will be playing checkers in the courtyard tomorrow afternoon, and are inviting anyone who wants to come to watch. Lastly, there will be a wedding ceremony for the Cosmas family. Anyone is welcome, as long as they bring the traditional gifts of furniture, jewels, perfume, or vases. My Newspaper 5 A Reminder of Social Structure Just a reminder to all citizens of Greece to remember their social status. Only upper class citizens cannot have a job, and all others must work. If you are not in the lucky 300 families in the upper class, you are a working citizen. to even be considered to be wealthy, you must have about 20 talents (Or units of money). If you are a slave reading this, as most of you probably are, you must remember that you are not allowed in the gymnasium or into the public assembly. You must also forget your name and use the one that your master has given you. Slaves can only gain freedom by buying their own freedom, being bought by a friend or relative, or when the master thinks that they are finished with whatever they are bought for. If you are a freed slave, you can only be part of the lower or middle class. Another reminder is that no noncitizens of Greece are allowed to own land or marry into a family of a citizen. Also, since there is a voting coming up soon this week, we would like to remind everyone that only upper class people are allowed to vote. Our Gods and Goddesses As any reader of this newspaper knows, we Greeks believe our gods are very important in our everyday lives. We believe that they are in control of our everyday actions, and even that some of them walk among us. We must give thank for their help in troubling times, and we must pray everyday for them to work in our favour. In death, our psyche leaves our body and heads to the dark underworld with Hermes the messenger of the gods. Ruled by Hades and his wife, Persephone, the underworld is a bleak place, but still we must go. Remember to be good in your life and you will reach Elysian Fields, where your soul will live happily in peace and contentment. If you are blasphemous towards the gods, you will go to Tartarus, where you will not be very happy. The gods watch over everything we do, and we should make sure that we respect them and what they decide for our future and our individual fates. Some of the most important gods of our community are of course Zeus, ruler of Mount Olympus and king of the gods, his wife, Hera, queen of the gods and the goddess of weddings and marriage, Athena, goddess of war and cunning, and Apollo, god of the sun and healing. There is also Demeter, goddess of fertility and agriculture, Poseidon, god of the sea and brother of Zeus, Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, and Hermes, god of travel and business. There are many more that we could name, but it would certainly take up the rest of this great newspaper! My Newspaper 7 ARTS DISPLAY This years art display is going to be a blast! The local artists are bringing all of their creations and there will be artists brought in from across the region to display their art as well. The art display will be filling every street in town with various types of art, including portraits, sculptures, scenery, abstract, canvas, pastel and many more. We have been informed that the display will be running from 8am to 8pm. There will be live There will also be two auctions going on from 11am to 12pm and 5pm to 6:30pm. There will be a special 15% of sale going on every hour at different colour coated tables around the city, a colour will be called out at the beginning of every hour so you know what tables are having sales. There will also be a large bake sale in the city centre going on all day from 8am to 8pm, there will be a variety of cupcakes, muffins, baklava, cookies, cake, and more, they will also be selling lunch and dinner items too such as soups, greens, salads, cheese pies, pasta and more! We have also heard that there will be live music playing around the city and some actors playing skits for the kids to enjoy. This will be a true community even, please support our city's art display and come and enjoy what they have to offer. Other cities nearby have now started talking about this spectacular art event and are even starting to make votes in their own city to see if their citizens would also be interested in creating their own art display event. 8 My Newspaper Government Today the government discussed setting a new law in place. The new law would state that everyone must pay a new tax for owning more than one animal on a property at a time. Many citizens have sent in complaints about this new law, saying they simply do not have enough minae to pay all the taxes in the off seasons of farming. The government refuses to listen and says that it is the only way to keep social ranks where they should be, they stated that the poor should stay poor, and the rich should stay rich, anywhere in between is unacceptable. Farmers are already lining up at all government office buildings around all of Greece to fight against this new tax. A meeting will be held in the city hall next Thursday to discuss this matter, all cities across Greece will be taking part in this discussion. At the end of the discussion there will be a petition to sign at the door for those who are against this tax, later all the petitions, across Greece, will be gathered and sent to the main government office. - Linnaya Faint Economy The situation in Greece continues to escalate as workers make no headway in receiving adequate pay for their very hard labor. There is a clear economic divide between those who lead and those being led. Those who lead live in ostentatious fortresses while those led live in poverty barely able to survive. There is a meeting of the people being held in Tuesday to discuss possible ways to address the issues. One suggestion is to develop a means of gaining a possible form of payment in terms of paid minae to compensate for the work done. Another optional payment is the exchange of animals for labor, however the payment of minae is preferred.
