Chiastic structure of Matthew 23-25 Mt 23:2. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses seat. Mt 24:15-16 Flee when you see the abomination that causes desolation, standing in the holy place. Mt 23:12-33. Woe to the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, who are hypocrites. Do not do what they do. Mt 24:17-22. Great unequalled distress. Mt 23:34-39. Prophets sent but persecuted. Jerusalem would not listen. Its house left desolate. All this upon this generation. Mt 24:23-28. False Christs, false prophets. Mt 24:1. Jesus left the temple and walked away from it. Predicted its destruction. Mt 24:29. Events in the heavens. Mt 24:30-31. The Son of Man comes and gathers his elect. Mt 24:3. Disciples seek the sign of the temple s destruction, his coming and the end of the age. Mt 24:4-5. Beware of deceivers. Mt 24:32-34 When all these things are seen, know that it is near, right at the door. All these things happen before this generation passes. Mt 24:6-8. Events on earth, but do not be alarmed by them. These are before a birth. Mt 24:9-12. Hated and put to death because of Jesus. Apostasy and false prophets. Love of most grow cold. Mt 24:36-44. No one knows the day or hour, so be ready at all times. Mt 24:45-25:30. Two classes - the faithful are rewarded when the Christ comes, while the wicked have a place with the hypocrites. Mt 24:13-14 Stand firm to the end which comes when the Gospel of the kingdom is preached in the whole world. Mt 25:31-46. The Son of Man comes and sits on his throne. Separates the people.

Structure of Matthew 24:45-51 The faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household That servant is wicked and says to himself, My master is staying away a long time To give them their food at the proper time. and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Chiastic structure of Mark 13 Mk 13:14 When you see the abomination that causes desolation, flee to the mountains. Mk 13:2-4. When will one stone not be left on one another? What will be the sign? Mk 13:15-20. Days of unequalled distress. Mk 13:5-6. Watch out for deceivers. Mk 13:21-23. False Christs and false prophets will appear. Mk 13:7-8 Do not be alarmed at wars and rumors of wars. These are at the beginning of birth. Mk 13:24-25. The heavenly bodies will be shaken. Mk 13:9-13. Stand as witnesses. Gospel preached to all nations. You will be hated. Stand firm to the end. Mk 13:26-27 Men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds. His angels will gather his elect.

Chiastic structure of Mark 13 Mk 13:14 When you see the abomination that causes desolation standing where it does not belong let the reader understand then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Mk 13:2 Do you see all these great buildings? replied Jesus. Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down. Mk 13:3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, Mk 13:4 Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled? Mk 13:15 Let no one on the roof of his house go down or enter the house to take anything out. Mk 13:16 Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. Mk 13:17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Mk 13:18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, Mk 13:19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now and never to be equaled again. Mk 13:20 If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. Mk 13:5 Jesus said to them: Watch out that no one deceives you. Mk 13:6 Many will come in my name, claiming, I am he, and will deceive many. Mk 13:21 At that time if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or, Look, there he is! do not believe it. Mk 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect if that were possible. Mk 13:23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time. Mk 13:7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Mk 13:8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. Mk 13:24 But in those days, following that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; Mk 13:25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Mk 13:9 You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. Mk 13:10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. Mk 13:11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. Mk 13:12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. Mk 13:13 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Mk 13:26 At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. Mk 13:27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

Chiastic structure of Luke 21 Lk 21:21 When you see this, everyone must flee. Lk 21:7 When will the temple be destroyed? Lk 21:22-24 Great distress upon this people. Lk 21:7 What will be the sign? Lk 21:24 Jerusalem will be trampled on. Lk 21:8 Watch for deceivers. Lk 21:9-11 Events on earth and in the heavens, but the end is not yet. Lk 21:25-26 Events in the heavens and on earth. Lk 21:12-19 They will persecute you. Lk 21:27 At that time see the Son of Man come in power. Lk 21:20 When you see Jerusalem surrounded, know that its desolation is near. Lk 21:28 Hold your head up high. Redemption draws near.

[Links the previous narrative to these subsequent verses.] Lk 21:5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, Lk 21:6 As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down. Lk 21:7 Teacher, they asked, when will these things happen? Lk 21:7 And what will be the sign that they are about to take place? Lk 21:8 He replied: Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, I am he, and, The time is near. Do not follow them. Lk 21:9 When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away. Lk 21:10 Then he said to them: Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. Lk 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven Lk 21:12 But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. Lk 21:13 This will result in your being witnesses to them. Lk 21:14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. Lk 21:15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. Lk 21:16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Lk 21:17 All men will hate you because of me. Lk 21:18 But not a hair of your head will perish. Lk 21:19 By standing firm you will gain life. Lk 21:20 When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Lk 21:21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. Lk 21:22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. Lk 21:23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. Lk 21:24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Lk 21:24 Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Lk 21:25 There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Lk 21:26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Lk 21:27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Lk 21:28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
