INTRODUCTION to Missionary Men ABOUT WHERE WE ARE STAYING Our trip is to Country: City: Peru Cusco, Peru National Flag: Currency: Nuevo Sol (Pen) Cusco City in Peru Cusco, a city in the Peruvian Andes, was once capital of the Inca Empire, and is now known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. Plaza de Armas is the central square in the old city, with arcades, carved wooden balconies and Incan wall ruins. The baroque Santo Domingo Convent was built on top of the Incan Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), and has archaeological remains of Inca stonework. Elevation: 11,152 Weather: 58 F (14 C), Wind N at 0 mph (0 km/h), 31% Humidity 3

Introduction to Missionary Hearts Inc. Love our neighbor who is suffering and in need Missionary Hearts Inc. (DBA: Missionary Men) has been created to provide religious and humanitarian services to those less fortunate through our Mission Trips. Our mission trips typically will provide the following services: Construction Services: We would provide material and volunteer labor to fix churches, playgrounds, schools, orphanages, etc. in the local country where we are doing mission work. Medical Services: If we have a Certified Doctor with us we will have the doctor provide medical services to families in the area Spiritual Services: Our Volunteers will perform family/community visits at their homes and provide spiritual support and comfort. We invite you to join us in one of our great spiritual adventures www.missionaryhearts.org. These missions offer you the opportunity to be an apostle of mercy to people who barely have enough to eat but open their heart, their homes and families to you just because you are there to serve God. How would you like to see these beautiful virtues demonstrated by the men, women and children around you everyday? Giving Forgiveness Gratitude Simplicity Love for God s Will: Obedience (Trust God) Respect Sacrifice Joyful Obedience (Perseverance) Joy 4

Missionary Men Schedule The Missionaries will stay 6 days (November3-8) and assist the community in helping them continue to build a rectory as well as ministering to the poor. In addition to our daily work, the Missionaries share in the daily life as missionary, which includes: Morning and Evening Reflections Working and Visiting the Communities Daily Mass Meals Our missionaries go home with a renewed faith, a new love for the poor, a new vision for their lives and willingness to help again. Your personal prayer life will be enhanced as you get to participate in daily reflections with the men and devotions that sustain you spiritually. Seeing the simplicity of the community, you will likely go home with a heightened sense of the materialism of western culture and an appreciation for a simpler way of life. The service rendered to the poor is a pilgrimage of healing and renewal of faith. What your typical day will look like? Missionary Men Q &A GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: There are no special skill requirements for volunteers, other than a willingness to serve the poor. Avoid bringing jewelry or expensive items, remember the people you are serving are very poor and we must be humble servants CDC TRAVEL REQUIREMENT Peru, it is recommended that you have had a tetanus shot within the last ten years. If you have any major concerns please see your local doctor regarding shots. The water in Peru should not be drunk we will be provided with purified water. Bring any medical medicines you may need to take (i.e.-inhaler, epipin, etc.) Each traveler going to Peru must have a valid passport. Check your expiration date as it takes the U.S. 3-4 weeks to get a passport updated. No Visa required for US & Canadian Passport holders. *It is always advisable to check the CDC website for current health situations. You can learn more by going to www.cdc.gov and click on Traveler s Health. All travelers You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some vaccines may also be required for travel. Routine vaccines Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Most travelers Get travel vaccines and medicines because there is a risk of these diseases in the country you are visiting. Hepatitis A CDC recommends this vaccine because you can get hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Peru, regardless of where you are eating or staying. Typhoid You can get typhoid through contaminated food or water in Peru. 7

CDC recommends this vaccine for most travelers, especially if you are staying with friends or relatives, visiting smaller cities or rural areas, or if you are an adventurous eater. Some travelers Ask your doctor what vaccines and medicines you need based on where you are going, how long you are staying, what you will be doing, and if you are traveling from a country other than the US. Hepatitis B You can get hepatitis B through sexual contact, contaminated needles, and blood products, so CDC recommends this vaccine if you might have sex with a new partner, get a tattoo or piercing, or have any medical procedures. Malaria When traveling in Peru, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent malaria. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria, depending on your travel plans, such as where you are going, when you are traveling, and if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or sleeping outside. Talk to your doctor about how you can prevent malaria while traveling. For more information on malaria in Peru, see malaria in Peru. Rabies Although rabies can be found in dogs, bats, and other mammals in Peru, it is not a major risk to most travelers. CDC recommends this vaccine only for these groups: Travelers involved in outdoor and other activities in remote areas that put them at risk for animal bites (such as adventure travel and caving). People who will be working with or around animals (such as veterinarians, wildlife professionals, and researchers). People who are taking long trips or moving to remote areas in Peru Children, because they tend to play with animals, might not 8

report bites, and are more likely to have animal bites on their head and neck. Yellow Fever Yellow fever is a risk in certain parts of Peru, so CDC recommends the yellow fever vaccine for travelers 9 months of age or older to these areas. For more information on this recommendation, see yellow fever recommendations and requirements for Peru.Your doctor can help you decide if this vaccine is right for you based on your travel plans.
