Week 4: My love for Jesus Christ grows when I study the scriptures. Characters: Reporter 1 (probably a teacher) Reporter 2 Eve Props: Serpent & Adam (no speaking parts) Serpent will hold a plastic snake in front of him/her and then wiggle it while mouthing words. Noah Mr. Jairus (Jairus is actually his first name in the Bible, but I needed a wife for the part, so I made it his last name for the skit.) Mrs. Jairus 4 chairs Fake tree Fruit on tree Plastic Snake Scriptures Picture of the Raising of Jairus daughter Hand-held Microphone -optional Reporter 1: Good morning to everyone out there! You are in for a treat today. Our guests are people who have lived incredible lives and their stories are found here in these wonderful pages in our scriptures. I have a testimony of Jesus Christ, but by getting to know more about the characters in the scriptures, I know that my love for Jesus will grow. Here comes our first guest now. I d like to introduce Eve. She lived with her husband, Adam, in the Garden of Eden many, many years ago. Eve, it s nice to have you here today. Eve: It s great to be here,. What a great Primary group! Just want to tell you all what a great job you did on your program today. It was awesome! Reporter 2: Eve, what was it like living in the Garden of Eden? Eve: It was so beautiful! There were trees and flowers, rivers, and animals. We talked with Heavenly Father and he taught us.

Reporter 2: So you were not alone in the Garden of Eden? Eve: Oh, no! My husband, Adam, was there as well. In fact, it was his job to give names to every living creature in the garden. He is such a creative man! Can you imagine coming up with all of those names? Lions, tigers, bears Reporter 1: Oh my! So, Eve, after a while of living in the Garden, I hear you moved away to a new place. Why would you want to leave the Garden? Eve: Well there just so happened to be a serpent in the Garden. He wanted me to eat a piece of fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Well, that was the one tree that Heavenly Father said Adam and I could eat from. We were told we would die if we did! Adam and I wanted to obey all of Heavenly Father s commandments and so we never even thought about eating the fruit from that tree. However, that serpent was very convincing to me. He said that I surely wouldn t die, but that after I ate the fruit, my eyes would be opened and I would know the difference between good and evil. Reporter 2: We actually have a video clip of this. Roll the tape! Eve walks over to a tree. Serpent mouths words. Eve shakes her head. Serpent talks some using big gestures. Eve nods, takes fruit, and takes a bite. She looks around with big eyes. Serpent hands her another fruit and points to Adam. She walks over and mouths words to him. He jumps up and mouths words at her acting upset. She, solemnly mouths words back. He takes the fruit and takes a bite. Reporter 1: Sorry about the audio. Must be having technical difficulties. So, what made you eat that fruit? Eve: Well, somehow I knew that I would need to have that knowledge. So far, everything was good in the garden. We were happy, but we didn t know it because we hadn t ever felt other feelings. Reporter 2: Wait! You hadn t ever been sad? Eve: No. Not sad or mad or anything. We didn t know were happy because we hadn t felt anything else. I knew that we needed to better understand the good from the bad. As you saw from the clip, I decided to eat that fruit. After I ate it, I told Adam what I had done. He decided to have some of the delicious fruit as well. Reporter 1: You both disobeyed Heavenly Father. What happened? Eve: We had to move out of the Garden. Life was much harder than we could have known, but after that we knew when we were happy and when we were sad. And, after we left the garden, we started a family. What joy that was! Reporter 2: So, Eve, would you say you were blessed while you lived in the garden?

Eve: Oh yes! It was peaceful and beautiful. We learned so much from Heavenly Father. He taught us and provided for us. Reporter 1: What blessing came after you left the Garden? Eve: We learned to work for our food and shelter. We were able to have a beautiful family. We had children and they had children and their children had children, and on and on. In fact, had I not eaten of the forbidden fruit, none of you would be here today! Technically I am everyone s great, great, great, great, great (and so on) grandmother! Reporter 2: Thank you so much, Eve, or should I say, Grandma, for being here today. Eve: It was my pleasure. Reporter 1: Wow, I am so grateful that Eve s story is written in these scriptures (hold up scriptures.) I m grateful that she made the choice to taste the forbidden fruit! She was a wise woman and without her choosing to do that, none of us would be here today! I m grateful Heavenly Father blessed her with knowledge that has been passed down to us today. Reporter blows air into a heart-shaped balloon. ( My Love for Heavenly Father has been previously written on the balloon.) Reporter 2: Our next guest is a very famous sailor and ship builder. You might know him as the first zoo keeper. Come on out, Noah! Noah: Thank you, thank you,. Reporter 1: It s an honor to have a prophet with us today. Noah, you are most famous for building an ark and gathering 2 of every kind of animal onto that ark. It must have been noisy on that ark. Noisy and stinky. Why did decide to build the ark in the first place? Noah: Well, Heavenly Father had called me to be a prophet and asked me to call the people to repentance. It was a very wicked world. There was violence everywhere and the people were corrupt and dishonest. The people wouldn t listen to me. They just kept disobeying Heavenly Father. Reporter 2: No one listened? Noah: Nope. Can you imagine what they all thought of me? I started building the ark and I was nowhere near the water and there were no clouds in the sky. Reporter 1: Were you a boat builder by trade? Noah: No! Uh I had no idea how to build an ark. Heavenly Father gave me very specific directions and I followed them. They worked! You should have seen that ark. It was a beauty! Reporter 2: Noah, just how old were you when you built the ark?

Noah: I was a young 600 years old! Reporter 1: Holy cow! Speaking of cows, how did you get all of those animals on the ark? Noah: I followed Heavenly Father s instructions and it was a challenge, but we got all of them on. Well, most anyway. Some people like to tease and say that I missed gathering in the unicorns! Reporter 2: Ha, ha! So, Noah, what would you like to tell our audience today. Noah: I want you all to know that because my family and I listened to the Lord and obeyed His commandments, we were saved from death and we were able to save the animals. You can t imagine how great it was to finally land on dry ground and exit the ark. It was a fresh start. No wickedness among the land. Reporter 1: What a blessing for you and your family. Not to have any wicked influences. With all of the evil in the world today, should we be worried that Heavenly Father might flood the earth again? Noah: No! Heavenly Father made a promise to never flood the entire world again. He even gave us a beautiful sign to help us remember that promise. Does anyone in the audience know what the sign is? Reporter calls on someone. Noah: That s right. The rainbow. Whenever you see a rainbow in the sky, please remember how much Heavenly Father loves you and that He always keeps his promises. Reporter 2: Noah, thank you for sharing your story with us. It was great to talk with you. (They shake hands and Noah walks away.) Reporter 1: Wow! What a story. The wicked people just wouldn t listen to the Prophet Noah. Heavenly Father wanted to destroy the wickedness and so he came up with a way to save the few righteous people left on earth. Not only did he save them, but he saved the animals also. I am so grateful he did! What would our lives be like without animals? I need to put some more air into my balloon. (blow) He also gave the world a beautiful sign to help us remember His promise. I m grateful for rainbows and hope I will always think of His promises and love for me whenever I see one. (blow in more air.) Reporter 2: Well, we have one more interview today. Audience, please help me welcome Mr. & Mrs. Jairus. Mr. & Mrs. Jairus: Thank you for having us today. Reporter 1: The previous two guests we visited with today were from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. We learn of your story from reading in the book of Mark in the New Testament. That means you lived at the same time Jesus Christ lived on earth.

Mrs. Jairus: We were so blessed to not only live in the same area as He did, but we had occasion to meet Him and witness a miracle performed in our own home. Reporter 2: What an incredible opportunity! Do tell us your story. Mrs. Jairus: My husband and I had a daughter who was 12 years old. She had been sick for quite some time. We had called in many doctors to help her and none of them could. She was becoming more and more ill. Mr. Jairus: I had heard of a man called Jesus Christ who had performed many miracles. We are a religious family and knew that miracles were possible. I heard that Jesus was visiting in our town and so I decided to find him and see if he would come to our home and heal our daughter. Reporter 1: How did you know where to look for Him? Mr. Jairus: It wasn t hard! Jesus had many followers and people were crowding around to talk with Him and see Him. I did find him and told him about my daughter. Jesus agreed to come to our house. Mrs. Jairus: In the meantime, however, my daughter was too sick and she died. (hand to face and pretend cry) Reporter 2: I m so sorry, Mrs. Jairus. How tragic! Mrs. Jairus: It was. I was heartbroken. My daughter. So young. It just wasn t right! Many friends and relatives came to support me. I was grateful they were there because my husband still had not returned. Mr. Jairus: I was trying to hurry, but the crowds were so large surrounding Jesus that it took quite a while to make it to our home. Before we arrived, a friend came and told me that my young daughter had died. I fell to the ground and cried. I was too late. Reporter 2: So, did Jesus just turn around and go back? Mr. Jairus: No. He said to me, Be not afraid. Only believe. I wasn t sure what to believe, but I was so glad that Jesus continued on His way to my home. Mrs. Jairus: When I saw my husband and the man Jesus come into my home, I sobbed even louder knowing that if He had come sooner, he could have saved my baby. Mr. Jairus: Then Jesus, after seeing my wife crying and my dead daughter on the bed, said, Why are you crying? She is not dead, but sleepeth. Reporter 1: Sleeping? Your daughter was just sleeping? Mrs. Jairus: No. She was not just sleeping. She was certainly dead. Mr. Jairus: Jesus walked over to her body, took her hand in His and said, I say unto thee, Arise.

Mrs. Jairus: Immediately, she got up! She didn t just open her eyes; she got up out of bed. Remember, she had been extremely sick and hadn t been out of bed for a long time. Now, there she was. Standing up! Smiling at us! It was truly a miracle. Reporter 2: Wow! Risen from the dead. Had you ever heard of that happening before? Mr. Jairus: Never. It was astonishing. A miracle! Mrs. Jairus: We want to thank you for letting us come today and share our miraculous story. As a token of our gratitude, we want to present you with a picture. An artist has so beautifully painted a picture of that day and we want you to have a copy. (hand over picture.) Reporter 2: Oh, it is wonderful! (Show to audience and place on chalkboard.) Mr. & Mrs. Jairus, thank you so much for being with us today, sharing your remarkable story. (They get up and leave.) Reporter 1: Wow! What an incredible experience. They witnessed Jesus perform a miracle in their own home. They felt of Jesus love for them and their daughter. Hearing their story makes my love for Jesus grow even more. (blow into balloon) Reporter 1: You have been a terrific audience today. I hope that you have learned that as we study in the scriptures, our testimonies are strengthened and our love for Jesus Christ can grow. Grown as big as this balloon! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen. I had thought of adding any of the following stories. You could add more if wanted. Joseph Sold into Egypt Moses Ruth & Naomi David & Goliath Jesus healed the blind man

Jesus visited the Nephites Tree of Life Helaman and the Stripling Warriors Samuel the Lamanite Reporter interviews characters from the scriptures. Reporter blows up a heart shaped balloon a little more after each interview.
