The Emmaus News Columbus Indiana Area Emmaus Community, Inc. September 2017 volume 25 issue 9 A Note from the Community Lay Director Every Day I have been thinking about every day events in our lives and how some just happen and others take deliberate action. Some are natural and some we sometimes push to the side and they do not happen. Do you feel incomplete when some items are missed? The easy happening ones are things like brushing your teeth, combing your hair, getting dressed, eating, and even sleeping. Making a point of bathing daily instead of waiting till Saturday night is a very noticeable one. Not sure I even remember those days of delayed bathing, but I do remember that my two brothers and I shared bath water till it got too cloudy or a scum gathered on the surface. I need to erase that visual. Maybe it s reading the newspaper, drinking clean water regularly, enjoying a little vice that hurts no one but maybe oneself, saying good morning to someone, making the bed, shaving, and even turning on the television before anything else. Actionable choices may include reading a daily devotional with scripture, interfacing with others that they will know where your heart and mind are, praying for others and that pilgrim that you do not even know their name, journaling your day, singing a hymn of praise, looking for God Sightings that are all around us, helping at least one person today, and when feeling boastful leaving no sign to man that you were there helping. Seems I almost missed praising and thanking God for what we have and what He is given us. Asking for His help all along our Christian walk and listening for what is yet to come. Our faith mentors past and present, family, pastors, church family, small groups, Emmaus and Chrysalis interfaces, and many others help us to remember our daily opportunities. How will you use today in building and sharing your faith Every Day? DeColores, (Fly with Christ), Dan Kirkling Emmaus Community Lay Director

A note from our Chrysalis Lay Director Thank you, thank you to the Emmaus/Chrysalis communities for helping sponsor caterpillars for the Labor Day flights. As you read this, around 48 caterpillars should be out at Camp Hilltop listening to 15 wonderful talks, singing, praying, eating, laughing, taking Communion together, and learning more about their journeys with Christ. Support these teens by participating as you're able in several activities over the weekend: Send-off is at 9:30AM Saturday September 2 at Camp Hilltop. Candlelight is at 8PM Sunday September 3 at Community Church of Columbus. Closing is at 4:30PM Monday September 4 at Garden City Church of Christ. Lift up prayers for the caterpillars and teams over the weekend. To God be the glory! -Dale Guse Columbus IN Area Chrysalis Community Lay Director
Sponsorship The Time IS NOW! Have you ever heard the saying, There is some uncertainty about the precise meaning of this phrase. Some use it to mean make a choice about what you intend to do ; others have it that it means either get to work in a productive manner or do something else and let someone else do the work. Well friends, that is where we are with regards to getting Pilgrim s signed up for the upcoming walks. It is up to the community, no one else to get Pilgrims signed up. The cutoff dates for the Men s Walk #105 is September 19 th and for the Women s Walk #106 is September 26 th. As you know, Pilgrims do not sponsor themselves. Team Members have enough to do by just getting ready for the Walk s, so who is responsible for getting Pilgrims signed up, So, let s be looking at those people in our churches, our families and our friends who would benefit from the renewal experience of participating in the Walk to Emmaus. With over 3,000 members of our Community it should be easy to come up with the minimum number requirement in the next couple of weeks. So, come on Columbus Emmaus Community, do not put the burden on the Board to make that decision on September 19 th or September 26 th to retire these walks. Let s get with it and fill up the minimum number of 20 Pilgrims by the cut off dates for each of these Walks. I know we can do it it is time Phil Newton Sponsorship and Reunion Groups
A note from our Clergy... Last month I took the opportunity to travel down to Hopkinsville Kentucky to witness the total solar eclipse. It was an awesome sight, as twilight descended upon us during those two minutes of totality! But have you ever wondered why God made the Moon just the perfect size and at the perfect distance from the Sun to allow an eclipse to occur in the first place? God certainly didn t need to do that. But while some might regard it as just a coincidence, I see God s imagination at work for our amazement and enjoyment! It s a special gift of joy if we re ready to receive it. In the same way, during these upcoming Flights and Walks, the caterpillars and pilgrims will be offered many special gifts by the community. They re certainly not necessary and wouldn t be missed, but God continues to stir up our imaginations to bring such amazement and enjoyment to our new friends. What blessings will be experienced in the sheer abundance of grace that the caterpillars & pilgrims will receive. What gifts will we be offering this month and next? Our prayers, sponsorship, service, food, placemats, bookmarks, etc. will hopefully show others the overflowing love God has for each of them! Mike Seaney, Emmaus Community Spiritual Director
