August 12, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Grace and the peace of Christ be with you. I would like to start this week s bulletin reflection by expressing my heartfelt thanks and appreciation for your warm welcome, your friendship and your faith shared with Fr. Matt and me for the past ten weeks. It has been amazing to experience your tremendous faith and your participation in the daily and Sunday Masses, 20/20 Visitation meetings as well as your presence during Adoration. This has given us insight into the richness of the talents and gifts of our collaborative parishes. We are blessed to use them for the greater glory of God. We can continue to rely on the strength and faithfulness of the Holy Spirit to grow in the ministries of the church, and actively embrace the mission and discipleship of Christ. Through them we bring the merciful and loving face of Jesus to others. In this case we see the need for continued participation and involvement in the vineyard of the Lord. Our Blessed Lord emphatically said, the harvest is rich but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37). As we have learned in our catechism the gifts of the Holy Spirit consist of two kinds: Sanctification (Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, and the Fear of the Lord) and Edification (the gifts of Interpretation, Teaching, Prophecy, Wisdom, Interpretation of Tongues and many others). The gifts of the Spirit sanctify and build our communities. St. Paul highlighted the variety of the gifts and services when he says: There are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord. There are many different forms of activities, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in them all But at work in all these is one and the same Spirit, distributing them at will to each individual (1 Corinthians 12:6-11). This is our strength and our hope for now and ages to come. Just as the Spirit formed the Church and led the apostles throughout their missionary activities so we rely on the unfailing presence of the Spirit in our collaborative parishes. In the near future we will extend our hands to welcome more participants to the ministries of our collaborative parishes: namely the Eucharistic Ministries, Lectors, Sacristans, Food Pantry Volunteers, Holy Name Society, Sodality, Youth and Music Ministry, Altar Servers and many future Ministries. Your active participation in these ministries will edify our collaborative family. In service we share and exercise the gifts of our baptismal vocation. In service we imitate the example of our Lord who came not to be served but to serve and gave his life as ransom for many (Mark 10:45). May the Lord keep you and bless you all. Father Joseph Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe The Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will come to visit our parishes on the weekend of August 18 and 19. This digital image is an exact replica of the Miraculous Image of Mary, which appeared on the cloak of St. Juan Diego on December 12, 1531. This Missionary image, which touched the original, has traveled throughout America, and many miracles are attributed to it. The image was commissioned to bring conversions, reverence for life, sanctity of the family and solidarity of the Church in America. Saturday August 18 St. Joseph: 2pm-8pm Sunday August 19 St. John the Baptist: 8am-8pm We need volunteers to keep company with our Lady while she is here. Sign-up sheets are located in the back of the Church. Thank you. August 12 ~ Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Elijah was ready to give up, This is enough O Lord. Take my life, but God would hear none of it: Get up and eat In the beautiful Bread of Life discourse in the Gospel today, Jesus tells us that He is the Bread of Life...whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. When tempted to give up and stop trying, remember that Jesus is here, each week, waiting to feed you with this Bread of Life. Get up and eat!
