20015 Volume 11 November 2015 Volume 11 FAITHFUL INSTRUCTIONS Here we are again readying ourselves for Thanksgiving. We are deciding where we are going to dine, who will be on the guest list and what we will be serving for dinner. Have we thought about the need to pause for Thanks Giving? On the first Thanksgiving celebration, the Governor invited the pilgrims with this message: To all ye Pilgrims, 500 W. Hunt Ave Alexis, Illinois 61412 Phone: 309-482-6183 Pastor Phone: 309-489-0001 Email: alexisunitedepc@gmail.com Website: www.alexisupc.org Facebook: Facebook.com/alexisupc Inasmuch as the great father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, squashes and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as he has protected us from the raids of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience; now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the day time, on Thursday November ye 29th of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty three, and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Plymouth rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving t ye Almighty God for all His blessings. Governor Bradford in 1623, 3 years after the Pilgrims settled at Plymouth Governor Bradford states that the point of the meal is to thank God for his provision, protection, and their freedom to worship along with sharing that gratitude with their families. They understood the scripture: "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus." I Thes. 5:16-18 This Thanksgiving, while you are with loved ones, don t forget to set a place at the table for Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving

Volume 11 Page 2 We are collecting food for Blessings in a backpack. Just like last year, we will be collecting cans of ravioli and green beans. You may drop them off at the table by the north entrance. Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! As there are a number of children going without milk, this money will help for a short time. Anyone wanted to help in this cause can contact Sandy Brown. We are asking for cookies for our shut-ins and those over 80 to be delivered with the poinsettias in December. As we are increasing the number to whom we are gifting, the need will be greater than in previous years. Please have the cookies to the church no later than 1:30 December 2. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and caring to make this outreach always a success and much looked forward to by the recipients. December 6, 2015 There will be no December Bible Study meeting. We invite all women of the church to meet for lunch at Moe s, Alexis, at 12 noon, December 2. After lunch those wanting to help plate cookies will head to the church. The cookies will be paired with the poinsettias, from the Deacons, to be delivered by church members to those celebrating 80 years.
