Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #53, pages 489-493 The True Witness says, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. Revelation 3:20. Every warning, reproof, and entreaty in the word of God or through His messengers is a knock at the door of the heart. It is the voice of Jesus asking for entrance. With every knock unheeded, the disposition to open becomes weaker. The impressions of the Holy Spirit if disregarded today, will not be as strong tomorrow. The heart becomes less impressible, and lapses into a perilous unconsciousness of the shortness of life, and of the great eternity beyond. Our condemnation in the judgment will not result from the fact that we have been in error, but from the fact that we have neglected heaven-sent opportunities for learning what is truth. {DA 489.5} Question: What did the True Witness say and what are the knocks at the door of the heart known as? And, what will happen with every knock unheeded and if the impression of the Holy Spirit is disregarded today? Answer: Every warning, reproof, and entreaty in the word of God or through His messengers. It is the voice of Jesus asking for entrance. And, the disposition to open becomes weaker. And, it will not be as strong tomorrow. The heart becomes less impressible, and lapses into a perilous unconsciousness of the shortness of life, and of the great eternity beyond. Song: Let s learn our first scripture song together dear one, from the book of Revelation! Revelation 3:20 (KJV) Behold, (2 xs) I stand at the door, and knock: (3 xs) Behold, (2 xs) I stand at the door, and knock: (3 xs) if any man hear my voice, (2 xs) and open the door, (3 xs) I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. and open the door, (3 xs) I will come in to him, Like the apostles, the seventy had received supernatural endowments as a seal of their mission. When their work was completed, they returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through Thy name. Jesus answered, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. {DA 490.1} The scenes of the past and the future were presented to the mind of Jesus. He beheld Lucifer as he was first cast out from the heavenly places. He looked forward to the scenes of His own agony, when before all the worlds the character of the deceiver should be unveiled. He heard the cry, It is finished (John 19:30), announcing that the redemption of the lost race was forever made certain, that heaven was made eternally secure against the accusations, the deceptions, the pretensions, that Satan would instigate. {DA 490.2} Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#250 3.24.18 Page 2
Question: What had the seventy received like the apostles? And, what scenes of the past and the future were presented to the mind of Jesus? Answer: They had received supernatural endowments as a seal of their mission. And, He beheld Lucifer as he was first cast out from the heavenly places. He looked forward to the scenes of His own agony, when before all the worlds the character of the deceiver should be unveiled. Song: Let s learn another scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Revelation! Revelation 12:7-9 (KJV) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:7 through 9 Beyond the cross of Calvary, with its agony and shame, Jesus looked forward to the great final day, when the prince of the power of the air will meet his destruction in the earth so long marred by his rebellion. Jesus beheld the work of evil forever ended, and the peace of God filling heaven and earth. {DA 490.3} Henceforward Christ's followers were to look upon Satan as a conquered foe. Upon the cross, Jesus was to gain the victory for them; that victory He desired them to accept as their own. Behold, He said, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. {DA 490.4} Question: What did Jesus look forward to, as well as behold, beyond the cross of Calvary with its agony and shame? And, how were the followers to look upon Satan as? Answer: Jesus looked forward to the great final day, when the prince of the power of the air will meet his destruction in the earth so long marred by his rebellion; and beheld the work of evil forever ended, and the peace of God filling heaven and earth. And, Henceforward Christ's followers were to look upon Satan as a conquered foe. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#250 3.24.18 Page 3
The omnipotent power of the Holy Spirit is the defense of every contrite soul. Not one that in penitence and faith has claimed His protection will Christ permit to pass under the enemy's power. The Saviour is by the side of His tempted and tried ones. With Him there can be no such thing as failure, loss, impossibility, or defeat; we can do all things through Him who strengthens us. When temptations and trials come, do not wait to adjust all the difficulties, but look to Jesus, your helper. {DA 490.5} There are Christians who think and speak altogether too much about the power of Satan. They think of their adversary, they pray about him, they talk about him, and he looms up greater and greater in their imagination. It is true that Satan is a powerful being; but, thank God, we have a mighty Saviour, who cast out the evil one from heaven. Satan is pleased when we magnify his power. Why not talk of Jesus? Why not magnify His power and His love? {DA 493.1} Question: How do many Christians think and speak altogether too much about the power of Satan? And should we be concerned about Satan being powerful, and what is the better thing to do? Answer: They think of their adversary, they pray about him, they talk about him, and he looms up greater and greater in their imagination. And, No! Thank God, we have a mighty Saviour, who cast out the evil one from heaven; and talk and magnify His power and His love. The rainbow of promise encircling the throne on high is an everlasting testimony that God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16. It testifies to the universe that God will never forsake His people in their struggle with evil. It is an assurance to us of strength and protection as long as the throne itself shall endure. {DA 493.2} Question: What does the rainbow of promise encircling the throne on high represent? And, what does it testify to the universe and to us? Answer: Is an everlasting testimony that God so loved the world, that He gave His onlybegotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. And, that God will never forsake His people in their struggle with evil. It is an assurance to us of strength and protection as long as the throne itself shall endure. Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 6-Jesus is a Friend That is Closer Than a Brother There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24. {SD 167.1} Disappointments you will have, but ever bear in mind that Jesus, the living, risen Saviour, is your Redeemer, your Restorer. He loves you, and it is better to share His love than to sit with princes and be separated from Him.... {SD 167.2} Come daily to Jesus, who loves you. Open your heart to Him freely. In Him there is no disappointment. You will never find a better counsellor, a safer guide, a more sure defense. {SD 167.3} Through all your trials... you have had a never-failing Friend, who has said, "I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." {SD 167.4} But how often is the Lord neglected for the society of others, and for things of no value!... We dare not let His name languish on our lips, and His love and memory die out of our hearts. "Well," says the cold, formal professor, "this is making Christ too much like a human being;" but the Word of God warrants us to have these very ideas. It is the want of these practical, definite views of Christ, that hinders so many from having a genuine experience in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This is the reason that many are fearing and doubting and mourning. Their ideas of Christ and the plan of salvation are vague, dreary, and confused.... If ever there was a time when men needed the presence of Christ at their right hand, it is now, so that when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. {SD 167.5} Communion with Christ--how unspeakably precious! Such communion it is our privilege to enjoy, if we will seek it. {SD 167.6} The everlasting assurance shall be yours that you have a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother. {SD 167.7} Next Week: We will be reviewing our lesson, The Last Journey From Galilee of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
