Order of Worship We seek to glorify God by preaching His Word and spreading the gospel of Grace in Boldness and Selflessness. www.saintstephenschapel.org

Order of Worship Saint Stephen s Chapel September 30, 2018 Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost Preparation for Worship The LORD is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him. Habakkuk 2:20 Majesty, worship His majesty. Unto Jesus be all glory, honor, and praise. Majesty, kingdom authority flow from His throne unto His own; His anthem raise. So exalt up on high the name of Jesus. Magnify, come glory Christ Jesus the King. Majesty, worship His majesty; Jesus who died, now gloried, King of all kings. Majesty Call to Worship Rev. Manny Alaniz Minister: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100 Song of Adoration * Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder Let us love and sing and wonder, Let us praise the Savior's name He has hushed the law's loud thunder, He has quenched Mount Sinai's flame (Chorus) He has washed us with His blood He has washed us with His blood He has washed us with His blood He has brought us nigh to God Let us love the Lord who bought us, Pitied us when enemies Called us by His grace and taught us, Gave us ears and gave us eyes (Chorus) He presents our souls to God

Let us sing though fierce temptation, Threatens hard to bear us down For the Lord our strong salvation, Holds in view the conqu'ror's Crown (Chorus) Soon will bring us home to God Let us wonder grace and justice, Join and point to mercy's store When through grace in Christ our trust is, Justice smiles and asks no more (Chorus) Has secured our way to God Let us praise and join the chorus, Of the saints enthroned on high Here they trusted Him before us, Now their praises fill the sky Thou hast washed us with Thy blood (x3) Thou art worthy Lamb of God. John Newton Laura Taylor *Prayer of Invocation *Affirmation of Faith The Heidelberg Catechism, Q/A 32 1 Minister: Christian, why are you called a Christian? People: Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity. *********************** 1 Heidelberg Catechism originated in Germany in 1562 under the authority of Elector Frederick III, who ruled the most important German province, the Palatinate, from his castle in Heidelberg. He commissioned the preparation of a new catechism for guiding ministers and teachers in instructing people in the Christian faith. Song of Praise * O Great God O great God of highest heaven, Occupy my lowly heart Own it all and reign supreme, Conquer every rebel power Let no vice nor sin remain, That resists Your holy war You have loved and purchased me, Make me Yours forever more I was blinded by my sin, Had no ears to hear Your voice Did not know Your love within, Had no taste for heaven's joys Then Your Spirit gave me life, Opened up Your word to me Through the gospel of Your Son, Gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to life a life, That s dependent on Your grace Keep my heart and guard my soul, From the evils that I face You are worthy to be praised, With my every thought and deed O great God of highest heaven, Glorify Your Name through me (Repeat). Bob Kauflin God s Renewal Scripture Warning Mr. Jordan Wright Leader: If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:6, 8, 10) Public Confession Leader: People: Silent Confession Let us confess our sins together. O Lord God, Who inhabits eternity, the heavens declare Your glory, the earth Your riches, the universe is Your temple; I thank You for Your riches given to me in Jesus: for the unclouded revelation of Him in Your Word, where I behold His person, character, grace, glory, humiliation, sufferings, death, and resurrection. I come to You in the all-prevailing name of Jesus, with nothing of my own to plead, no works, no worthiness, no promises. I am often straying, often knowingly opposing Your authority, often abusing Your goodness. Impress me deeply with a sense of Your omnipresence, that You are about my path, my ways, my lying down, my end. Subdue in me the love of sin, let me know the need of renovation as well as of forgiveness, in order to serve and enjoy You forever. Assurance of Pardon and Comfort Romans 8:33-34 Leader: Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Song of Renewal * Psalm 51 (God Be Merciful to Me) God be merciful to me, On Thy grace I rest my plea Plenteous in compassion Thou, Blot out my transgressions now Wash me make me pure within, Cleanse O cleanse me from my sin My transgressions I confess; Grief and guilt my soul oppress I have sinned against Thy grace, And provoked Thee to Thy face I confess Thy judgment just, Speechless I Thy mercy trust I am evil, born in sin, Thou desirest truth within Thou alone my Savior art, Teach Thy wisdom to my heart Make me pure Thy grace bestow, Wash me whiter than the snow Broken, humbled to the dust, By Thy wrath and judgment just Let my contrite heart rejoice, And in gladness hear Thy voice From my sins O hide Thy face, Blot them out in boundless grace Gracious God, my heart renew, Make my Spirit right and true Cast me not away from Thee, Let Thy Spirit dwell in me Thy salvation's joy impart, Steadfast make my willing heart Sinners then shall learn from me, And return, O God, to Thee Savior all my guilt remove, And my tongue shall sing Thy love Touch my silent lips, O Lord, And my mouth shall praise accord. Richard Redhead / Christopher Miner Prayer for the People Greeting Mr. Wright *Scripture Reading Mrs. Kristie Alaniz Genesis 18:16-21 Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. 17 The Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham

what he has promised him. 20 Then the Lord said, Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know. Reader: People: This is The Word of The LORD. Thanks be to God. The Sermon Rev. Alaniz Chosen In Love A Journey of Faith A Sermon Series on the Life of Abraham Celebration of Holy Communion A Word About Communion at Saint Stephen s Chapel: This is a time for all people to seek the Lord. For Christians, Communion (also called The Lord s Supper or The Eucharist, which means thanksgiving ) is a time to meet with their Savior by faith, to be strengthened and renewed by Him as they eat bread and drink wine. All baptized Christians who trust in Christ alone as their Savior and Lord, are at peace with their fellow neighbor, and seek strength and grace to live more faithfully to Christ, are invited to participate. If you are not a Christian, or if you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer and to consider more deeply your relationship to Jesus Christ. We also ask that children who have not yet publicly professed their faith in Christ refrain from partaking until doing so. Scripture Reading Mark 14:22-25 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, Take; this is my body. 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. Prayer of Consecration Words of Institution Minister: These are Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on Him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.

Song of Communion Before the Throne of God Above Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea A great High Priest whose name is love Who ever lives and pleads for me My name is graven on His hands My name is written on His heart I know that while in heaven He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart No tongue can bid me thence depart When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free For God the Just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me To look on Him and pardon me Behold Him there, the risen Lamb My perfect, spotless Righteousness The great unchangeable I AM The King of glory and of grace One with Himself, I cannot die My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high With Christ my Savior and my God With Christ my Savior and my God. *Offertory Prayer * Song of Blessing * All Hail the Power of Jesus Name All hail the power of Jesus' name, Let angels prostrate fall Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all (Public Domain) Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, Ye ransomed from the fall Hail Him who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all
