June 5! Ingathering of Time and Talent forms at both services! David and Jim will be hosting the end of program year coffee hour at the rectory. Thank you very much! Our summer service times will be 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., from June 12 through September 4. Mark your calendars! The iced tea and lemonade hour will begin on June 12. The signup sheet will be in the narthex won t you volunteer? All the supplies are provided, so it couldn t be easier. VACATION NOW IT CAME TO PASS that summer finally arrived and Mr., Mrs., and Ms. Parishioner made plans for their holidays. Before departing, a large number of them heeded the plea to pay their pledges and all was well for the good name of St. David s Church. Verily, the treasurer was able to rejoice greatly and give hearty thanks for all their generosity. THE NAMES OF MEMBERS of our parish families who are graduating from high school/college or receiving advanced degrees/special honors or beginning retirement. We want to honor them in our midsummer issue, so please e-mail the office or Mary-Esther Arther (meaprovol@optimum.net) before July 12 with all the details. Thank you! Mike and Deb Roehrer for once again chairing the annual plant sale; Julie Dolci, Nancy Moody, Caroline Mossip, Allison Philhower and Irene Williams for unloading and sorting the orders on pick-up day; everyone who purchased flowers and plants. We netted $1,264.67! Thanks as well to the donors of the flowers that Mike and Deb planted in the big blue pots and to Jim Alden for faithfully watering them and to Deb for planting the row of impatiens along the front sidewalk. Vestry Meeting Highlights May 19, 2016 Following the opening prayer led by Jennifer Trevisan, Rich Dobson led reflections on the May Vestry Prayer using the personal artwork of all members present Drawing The Word We discussed issues brought up by the congregation the use of incense (pro and con), why some clergy and wardens are missing from the plaques in the narthex, and the need to reiterate that there will be no outcasts in our church. Irene Williams, representing the Going Local Guiding Team, reported on a meeting where she explained our Memorial Day event and reported on our road clean-up to diocesan staff. At their next meeting she will report on how the Memorial Day event went, where we plan to have a booth with water and snacks and will be passing out our Be A Neighbor buttons. The Guiding Team will be sending an email to the parish explaining the Memorial Day event. David reported on his meeting with the Going Local clergy, where they discussed adaptive challenges and the culture change of leadership from the bottom up. We approved the Time and Talent Booklet and sheet that will be distributed to the congregation and will speak to our specific needs over the next several weeks via emails to the congregation. We approved a beer and food-pairing event to be held on Saturday, July 23 rd and a single parish barbeque potluck to be held on Wednesday, August 10 th in lieu of Dining at David s We offered thanks for Doris Snyder for her prison ministry, our parish photographers Sondra, Marty, Caroline and John, our sexton Guy for his meticulous care of the church and grounds, Rich Dobson and Jennifer Trevisan for coordinating the spring social, Jennifer Trevisan for handling the David P Hegg Award voting procedure, Mike and Debbie Roehrer for running the plant sale, and Irene Williams and John Simonelli for coordinating the new members recognition. David reported that Nancy Moody, Marty Stanton, John Simonelli and Christine Rudolphi will be trained as morning prayer leaders, and Doris Snyder, Mike Odian and John Simonelli will be trained as preachers. He noted that he and Jim will be hosting the second annual coffee hour at the rectory on June 5 th and that he will attending a mass of thanksgiving on June 4 th honoring Monsignor Jack Carroll on the 50 th anniversary of his ordination and 25 th anniversary as pastor. He also reported on the recent annual clergy day, the theme of which was Power, Privilege and Race We reviewed and approved the Treasurer s report for April and reviewed the new Quickbooks reports for the same period. Due the lower fuel cost and a mild winter we have a $3,100 credit balance on our fuel oil account and have elected to request a refund from the vendor. Contd/

The property committee reported that the new carpeting for the church has been ordered and will be installed the week of May 30 th. We approved the winner of the David P Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be announced to the congregation as soon as the recipient is notified. We approved the pension amount and process for the sexton. We approved the purchase of a new computer and laser printer for the parish administrator, as well as a Cloud-based backup solution using money from our fuel oil refund. We amended and approved the church calendar for June. David will be on vacation beginning Monday, June 20, and returning on Tuesday, July 5. We will welcome our own Shane Phelan on Sunday, June 26, when she will preside and preach at both services.
