THE LORD S DAY IN WORSHIP AT 8:30 & 11: 00 A.M. MORNING WORSHIP The Silent Meditation upon Entering the Sanctuary O God, full of compassion, I commit and commend myself to You, in Whom I am, and live, and know. Be the goal of my pilgrimage, and my rest by the way. Let my soul take refuge from the crowding turmoil of worldly thought beneath the shadow of Your wings. Let my heart, this restless sea of waves, find peace in You, O God. AUGUSTINE OF HIPPO (354-430) The Welcome and Announcements The Prelude Partita on lasst uns erfreuen Charles Callahan The Striking of the Hour The Choral Introit A Prayer of St. Richard of Chichester L. J. Wright O holy Jesus, most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, may I know Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly. Amen. Congregation, please stand as able 2

The Call to Worship Psalm 98:1-6 Mr. Curles Sing a new song to the Lord, who has worked wonders, whose right hand and holy arm have brought salvation. The Lord has made known salvation; has shown justice to the nations; has remembered truth and love for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout to the Lord, all the earth, sing out your joy. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp, with the sound of music. With trumpets and the sound of the horn acclaim the King, the Lord. The Hymn No. 76 Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven lauda anima The Prayer of Adoration and Invocation The Lord s Prayer (Inside front cover of the Trinity Hymnal) The Morning Prayers The Silent, Personal Prayer of Confession The Corporate Prayer of Confession Awesome and compassionate God, You have loved us with unfailing, self-giving mercy, but we have not loved you. You constantly call us, but we do not listen. You ask us to love, but we walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns. We condone evil, prejudice, warfare, and greed. God of grace, as you come to us in mercy, we repent in spirit and in truth, admit our sin, and gratefully receive your forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen. 3

The Assurance of God s Pardon Isaiah 1:18 Hear the good news! Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Know and believe that in Christ, God cleanses you, embraces you, and strengthens you to live a renewed life. Thanks be to God! The General Prayer The Hymn No. 44 How Great Thou Art o store gud (stanzas 1, 3, 4) The Morning Offering The Christian Greeting The Anthem At the Name of Jesus Cindy Berry Chancel Choir Jesus, though He was God, did not cling to His rights as God, but laid aside His mighty power, His mighty power and glory, taking the form of a servant, and becoming like men. He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow in heaven and in earth. That every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! At the name of Jesus! The Prayer of Illumination The Scripture Lesson Psalm 110 Page 646 in the Pew Bible 4

The Response All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of our God shall stand forever. Amen. The Interlude Children age four through Kindergarten may leave to attend Children s Church. Following the worship service, please pick up your four-year-olds from the Children s Chapel in the Covenant Building (E-100). Five-year-olds may be picked up from Room E-212. The Sermon KING. The Vows for Membership 1. Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy? 2. Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel? 3. Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Christ? 4. Do you promise to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability? 5. Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the church, and promise to study its purity and peace? (11:00) The Words of Instruction and Exhortation The Words of Institution For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto Him. And I will establish my covenant between Me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto you and to your seed after you. Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household (Acts 2:39; Genesis 17:7; Acts 16:31). All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:18-20). 6

The Covenant Vows Vows of the Parents 1. Do you acknowledge your children s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit? 2. Do you claim God s covenant promises in their behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation, as you do your own? 3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your children to God, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before them a godly example, that you will pray with and for them, that you will teach them the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God s appointment, to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? Vow of the Congregation Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of their children?
