The Holy Trinity
Prelude A Kingsfold Suite David Dahl Announcements Entrance Hymn God, Whose Almighty Word Hymn 673 Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One, and we praise your power, majestic One-in-Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Children's Message Genesis 1:1-2:4a Pew Bible p. 1 This opening chapter of the Bible was first told to people whose lives were in great turmoil. God offers this love poem, promising God s people, As it was in the beginning, so now I am with you in these chaotic times in order to create life-giving order. A reading from Genesis, chapter 1:... Psalm 8 Refrain Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God!
O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! you whose glory is chanted above the heavens out of the mouths of in- fants and children; you have set up a fortress against your enemies, to silence the foe and avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, what are mere mortals that you should be mind- ful of them, human beings that you should care for them? R Yet you have made them little less than divine; with glory and hon- or you crown them. You have made them rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things un- der their feet: all flocks and cattle, even the wild beasts of the field, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the sea. O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! R 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 Paul tells the Corinthians to live with each other in the peace revealed in the love of God. As our contemporary worship is built on biblical language, you might recognize his greeting as one that often begins our worship together. A reading from Paul's letter chapter 13: [Paul writes:] Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God!
Gospel Acclamation Matthew 28:16-20 Matthew ends his gospel with these verses. The risen Jesus sends out his worshiping, yet doubting disciples. He promises to be with them always. The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew the 28th chapter: Glory to you O Lord. Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.
Sermon Rev. Phil Ruge-Jones Hymn of the Day Come, Join the Dance of Trinity(Kingsfold) Hymn 412 Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Postlude Gloria Dupre Pastor Dean Simpson Pastor Phil Ruge - Jones Organist: Elaine Mann Quote for the Day: "The source of the mystery is that God should come so close, not that God is far away! That God should be so available, so concretely and fully present! In short, that God should love: that is the mystery at the heart of Christian revelation." -Douglas John Hall Grace Lutheran Church Rev. Dean W. Simpson Rev.
