Message from the Chairman/President Men s Day 2018 How wonderful it is to celebrate Men s Day 2018. We can say If it had not been for the Lord on our side, where would we be! God has done great and marvelous things for the Mighty Men of Wheat Street Baptist Church. As we spend this time together celebrating and worshipping the Savior, let us be ever mindful that our mission remains the same, telling others about a Man who can heal, deliver and set FREE! Yes, Christ has set us free, so stand firm and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1). I am indeed thankful for all your love and support. I appreciate each of you for your cooperation and obedience to God. It was my pleasure to serve as chairman of Men s Day 2018! Let us continue to worship the Savior in spirit and in truth because where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Love to Each of You, Gregory Smith Chairman
The Litany Leader: The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Congregation: Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. Leader: And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come. Congregation: Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Leader: If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. Congregation: Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Leader: The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Congregation: I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Leader: Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. Congregation: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Leader: All: Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us....mighty Men of Wheat Street, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
It is with great joy that I salute the men of Wheat Street. The men of our church have once again done an excellent job planning and executing a marvelous experience. Every event has been both spiritual and up-lifting. The Mighty Men of Wheat Street are just that, mighty men. We want to encourage our men today to continue serving the Lord in ways that make a difference inside and outside the church walls. As we celebrate this Men s Day, let us remember all the young men we are called to reach. If it had not been for the church I wouldn t be where I am today. The church saved me. As we celebrate today let us recommit ourselves to saving our boys and young men who have fallen victim to injustice and oppression. Let us commit to standing with our young men who appear to be under attack by police. The Mighty Men of Wheat Street have always stepped up and stepped out; this year is no exception. The Mighty Men of Wheat Street will continue to be an example to this community as we recommit to reconnect with our young men so that we might have a lasting impact on the future of our community. We salute the Mighty Men as they both celebrate and commit to doing a new work! Rise up you Mighty Men of Wheat Street! Blessings, Rev. Ralph Basui Watkins, MFA, DMin, PhD
