ADOREMUS - Eucharistic Congress, Liverpool A grace-filled weekend. 10,000 people gathered for the Symposium in Liverpool Echo Arena on the Saturday, and thousands again gathered for the Masses at Liverpool Cathedral followed by the Blessed Sacrament Procession around the streets of Liverpool. One of our St Cuthbert Mayne banners was carried, and prominently displayed throughout the Procession. A deluge of rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who processed. Please visit the website of The Conference of Catholic Bishops of England and Wales (or just google CBCEW), there you will find plenty of photos and information about Adoremus. Especially recommended are the 2 talks of Bishop Robert Barron (auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles). He is a great speaker and opens up the mysteries of our faith in a wonderful way. Go to CBCEW, click on Congress Day, then Bishop Barron: 1 or 2 There will be more fruits from the Congress in due course. There will be a retiring collection at all Masses this weekend for Home Missions Sunday. On this day the Bishops invite parishes to pray for the mission of the Church in England and Wales and to support the Bishops work of evangelisation. Launceston: the regular meetings with Deacon Richard have started again after the holiday season. We meet every FIRST and THIRD Thursday at 6pm in the Charles Langdon Room. The group will look at the Readings for Sunday Mass. You are very welcome to join us. First Holy Communion classes (age 7+) will begin in October. The Celebration Masses will be in Eastertide 2019. Launceston: Adoration will now be moved to Saturday mornings, starting this coming weekend, from10.30am after mass for one hour finishing 11.30am. There will still be an opportunity to say the rosary and have confessions during this time. Please do not feel you have to stay for the whole hour of Adoration. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion those ministers who visit the sick and housebound would you please let yourself be known to Fr John. Society of St Vincent de Paul awareness month The Society of St Vincent de Paul will hold its annual Mass for the Sick at 10.30am, Saturday 6 th October at St Cuthbert Mayne Church. All are welcome, especially those with any kind of ailment, physical or mental, and those who would like to pray for sick relatives or friends. There will also be the opportunity for those who have lost relatives or friends during the past year, to have a votive candle lit during this Mass, and to take this home after. Please let Fr John or a member of the SVP know of the deceased s name. There will be refreshments afterwards in the Charles Langdon Hall. The Sacrament of the sick gives strength, peace and courage to face the difficulties of serious illness or the frailty of old age. A serious illness need not be life-threatening and the elderly may be anointed if they become noticeably weakened, even if no serious illness is present. There will be a talk by Peter Hazard, SVP member, and a special collection after all masses the weekend of 6 th /7 th October for the SVP Disaster Fund, for the district of Kerala in India, to help in relief and rebuilding work. Due to this collection being taken the annual SVP collection for the conference here in Cornwall will be taken in November. The parish has a new Facebook page: Catholic Parish of St Cuthbert Mayne. We welcome you to like and follow the page where you will be able to access some information about the Eucharistic Congress. More photos and information to follow. Diocesan Medals: Transport from the parish Two of our parishioners, Colin Barrett and Val Williams, are to receive diocesan medals from Bishop Mark during a special celebration at Plymouth Cathedral on Saturday 3 rd November at 11am. The awarding of these medals is in recognition of the decades of generous service these 2 parishioners have given to the Church and our parish especially. If there are people interested in going we would like to arrange a bus/coach from Launceston, passing through Callington, to go to Plymouth. Please place your name on the list at the back of the church if you would like to come. Further details to follow.
