PRE-SERVICE DEVOTION Psalm 119:129-136 Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them. 130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. 131 I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments. 132 Look upon me and be merciful to me, As Your custom is toward those who love Your name. 133 Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts. 135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes. 136 Rivers of water run down from my eyes, Because men do not keep Your law. 3

SERVICE OF THE WORD Hymn 416 O That The Lord Would Guide My Ways INVOCATION PP In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. A-men. 4

CONFESSION OF SINS PP All PP Beloved of God: Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God the Father, asking Him in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grant us forgiveness. Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer: we confess that we are sinful by nature, and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. We have not loved You above all things. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Have mercy on us, and, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us our sins. God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given His only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. A-men. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. 5

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to all people on earth. Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father: We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God: You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. You are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For You alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. PP Let us pray... O God, the source of all that is just and good, nourish in us every virtue and bring to completion every good intent that we may grow in grace and bring forth the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ your son, our Lord, who lives, and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forevermore. A-men. 6

THE WORD Deuteronomy 4:1-9 Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at Baal Peor; for the LORD your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor. 4 But you who held fast to the LORD your God are alive today, every one of you. 5 Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. 6 Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say,`surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 7 For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the LORD our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? 8 And what 7

great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day? 9 Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren, Mark 7:14-23 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, Hear Me, everyone, and understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear! 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods? 20 And He said, What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, 8

foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man. PP Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! These words are written that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! THE NICENE CREED All I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and 9

was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, Whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, And I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Hymn 447 Fight The Good Fight 10

SERMON Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the 11

gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. The Lord Guards His Treasures The book of Ephesians lists treasure after treasure which the Lord has showed upon us. But there are those who wish to steal these riches from us. Therefore the Lord has given the strength and armor that is needed to guard that which he has entrusted to us. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence. Take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Uphold me with Your free Spirit. 12

Hymn 373:1-4 By Grace I m Saved Grace Free And Boundless OFFERING PRAYERS AND THE LORD S PRAYER All PP PP PP Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord It is right and beneficial that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy 13

Father, almighty and everlasting God whose Son Jesus Christ promised that wherever two of three come together in His name, there He is with them to shepherd His flock till he comes again in glory. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we magnify Your glorious Name, evermore praising You and saying: PP Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heav n and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest. Blest is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the same night in which He was betrayed, took bread. And when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, Take, eat. This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me. In the same way He took the cup, after supper, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, Drink of it, all of you. This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me. 14

PP The peace of the Lord be with you always! Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy upon us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy upon us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; grant us You peace. THE DISTRIBUTION Distribution Hymn 305 We ask that only members of Faith Lutheran Church or the CLC come forward to receive the Lord s Supper. Visitors are welcome to speak to the pastor after the service. Allergy free wafers are available to the first table. Elderly/Disabled: If for any reason you prefer not to come up to the altar sit on the front west pew and the pastor will bring communion to you. 15

THANKSGIVING Thank the Lord; sing His praise; tell ev ry one what he has done. Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and bear Christ s holy name. Thank the Lord; Sing His praise; tell ev ry one what He has done. Send us with Your promises, Lord; lead Your people forth in joy with shouts of thanksgiving. Thank the Lord; sing His praise; tell ev ry one what He has done. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. THE BENEDICTION PP The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. A-men A-men A-men. Hymn 451 Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus 16
