A Letter from Father... Page 2 May 8, 2016 I have to use the bathroom. One of the greatest invention of modern times is Indoor plumbing. It has affected the growth of cities, skyscrapers and this church. Our bathrooms are essential to part of our Sunday gathering. Imagine how it will be without them. So it is in everybody s advantage to take care of our bathrooms. Keep them clean. Don t throw paper towels, feminine products or diapers in the toilet. We have been having a major problem with the sewer lines plugging up. Over a week in the last month we had to call the plumber to snake out the blockage in our sewer lines and to unblock the sewer lines so that they would stop from blocking up into the church and rectory. We have had the Main sewer line which goes from the Church to the rectory and under Lime street, power washed and photographed with a special camera. The result is that our sewer line is old and crumbling. There are two main bellies in the line which get blocked up if you throw unallowable paper products in the sewer. Sadly our plumber and the city plumber have suggested we close our bathroom until we can fix the problem. What does it mean to fix the problem?. We need to replace the old sewer lines. It is a Big job requiring to dig up the old line in its entirety and put in a new line. The cost will be quite high. We haven t talked to the company who will do the job, but the estimate is between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars. It is costly but there is no other solution. In the meantime, I ask that you take care of the bathroom. Obey the signs placed in the bathroom. This project was not in the plan for this year, but now it is. Peace, Our Mission We, the Church of St. Francis de Sales, are a Community of Believers in Jesus Christ called to impact Family, Neighborhood and Society with the Gospel so that people s lives are filled with Hope.

Seventh Sunday of Easter Page 6 May 8, 2016 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The Second Vatican Council decreed that the devotional life of the Church should be examined and reformed with an eye towards expressing Easter faith. This encouragement for creativity has deep roots in our tradition and some attempts at reform show great promise. One of the great treasures in our devotional repertoire is a familiar feature of Lent: the Way of the Cross. The faithful walk a path recalling the events of Christ s passion, a contemplative experience increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song. There are fourteen stations in the usual configuration, although in recent years, a fifteenth station of the Empty Tomb has been added. Why stop there? Why not develop a similar journey structured on the theme of the appearances of the Risen Lord? Over the last decade, a Via Lucis, or Way of Light, has developed as a companion to the Via Crucis. It has been celebrated at the Vatican and is catching on elsewhere. There are fourteen stations, beginning with the Women Carrying Spices to the Tomb, continuing with the familiar appearances of the Lord at Emmaus, the Upper Room, the shore of Tiberias. The journey ends with stations recalling the apostles wait with Mary for the advent of the Spirit and with Pentecost. This is fertile ground indeed for the genius of artists, musicians, preachers and liturgists. This is a living example of how many of our traditions are born to fill a great spiritual need and spread to every corner of the Church. It may even come soon to a church near you. Maybe next Eastertime!
