Discussion Questions: Can anybody but Jesus live a perfect life? Why or why not? What is God s law? Can we keep it perfectly? Why is it so important that Jesus led a perfectly sinless life? Devotion: God is perfect and gave us, His people, a perfect law to follow. In the Bible God gave Moses the 10 Commandments. They show the heart of God and how He desires us to live in a fallen world. They re also rules we must obey, reflecting the holiness of God. God s law helps us to see how far we fall short of being able to obey it. Because of the sin that entered the world when Adam sinned, we are not able to perfectly keep God s law. The 10 commandments show us just how big the gap is between us and God. They show us the wide and deep canyon of sin that separates us from Him and how impossible it is for us to jump across it on our own. So, what did God do for us? He sent Jesus to come to to earth and live the perfect life we could not accomplish. Then He became the bridge across that canyon by dying on the cross and taking the punishment of our sin upon himself so those who repent and believe He is their Savior can be close to God again! It is important that we first know God s law so that we can know His desire for how we should live. It is also essential to help us clearly see how terribly we fail at keeping God s law and how much we need Christ as our Savior! Jesus is the only way to God. There is no other way to cross the canyon of sin and be saved. Copyright 2018 Tauna Meyer. All rights reserved. 85

What work did Christ do to save you? Christ perfectly kept the law of God and suffered the punishment due for my sins. It might seem strange to some that Christians almost joyfully remember the death of Jesus by things such as displaying a cross or singing about Jesus sacrifice. It was such a sad event in history and certainly heartbreaking not only for Jesus friends who were with Him at the time, but for us today as we reflect on the seriousness of what Jesus did. Especially when we consider that our sin and disobedience is what made it necessary in the first place! However, it really is cause for joy! The Rembrandt. Moses with the Ten Commandments terrible sin and death that had entered the world and damaged the relationship between God and man was conquered because of Jesus death on the cross! His loving and sacrificial act was the only thing that could save us. And since the time of Adam and the serpent in the garden of Eden, God s master plan of salvation was rolling, while all creation waited for the promised Savior to come and defeat sin. Although the righteous anger of God burned against the sin of man, He took the punishment Himself! He became the God-man, God in flesh, taking on the sins of the world out of love and mercy.
