Biblical Manhood Remembering Our Legacy, Fulfilling Our Destiny September/October, 2011 Praying About Your Wife s Priorities Your wife has many demands on her. She faces a myriad of tasks on a daily basis. It is difficult for a woman to find the right priorities for her life when so many things are begging for her time and attention. Your wife feels drawn in a thousand directions. She desperately needs your prayers to help her order her priorities. Her great need is to order her priorities in the way that God desires. You can enable her to do this by praying about her priorities. The following Scripture prayers can aid you in praying about the priorities that God desires her to have. Father, I ask in the name of Jesus that would seek first Your kingdom and its righteousness. I plead that You would be the first priority of her life (Matthew 6:33). Father, Your Son Jesus declared that no man can serve two masters. I pray that would love You and serve You first and foremost. Deliver her from placing anybody or anything above You (Matthew 6:24). Father, I pray that You would grant the wisdom to divide her time and to make the most of it. Help her not to waste time but to redeem it and use it (Ephesians 5:16). Father, I ask that would spend time with You every day. Grant her the strength, grace, and discipline to get alone and to get with You (Matthew 6:6).

Father, I pray that You will give strength to for all that she must accomplish and grant her joy in the midst of all that she does (Psalm 29:11). Father, I plead that we would make time for each other. Help us to spend time with each other, sharing and listening to each other. Grant us the discipline to find that time and to minister to each other (Proverbs 5:15). Father, deliver from idleness. Set her free from squandering time. Help her make the most of her days (Proverbs 31:27). Father, I pray that You will help order her priorities. Provide her with the wisdom and discernment to know what You want her to do. Make it clear and plain what You desire from her. O God, grant her continual leadership about her priorities. Enable her to balance her priorities well (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Father, I ask You to help face the challenges of her daily life. Give her the faith and the patience that she needs for 2 each day. Deliver her from trying to do more and handle more than she can (James 1:3-5). Father, show me how I can assist and encourage in establishing and carrying out her priorities. Enable me to encourage her and help her in doing what You want to do on a daily basis (Ephesians 5:25). Father, I plead for Your blessing on my relationship to. You have brought us together. Our

marriage is Your plan for our lives. Pour out on us the riches of Your grace, power, mercy, and strength. Provide us with everything that we need to build a loving, godly marriage. Father, enable us to rejoice in each other. Help us to find joy in one another. Amen. My Confession: I will rejoice in my wife. I will daily look for characteristics in her and actions from her that I can rejoice in. Warfare Prayer For Your Family I ask You to bind and destroy the evil and murderous plans of Satan for this family (1 John 3:8). I pray that we will stand strong in faith against Satan and his schemes (1 Peter 5:8-9). I plead that You would deliver the lost in our family from the kingdom of darkness; place them into the kingdom of Your dear Son Jesus (Colossians 1:13). 4 I ask that we would not believe the lies of Satan (John 8:44). I pray that You would tear down any unbelieving mindset that Satan has built in the minds of this family (2 Corinthians 10:5). Prepare our hearts that we can hear and receive Your Word; frustrate his attempts to snatch the Word from our hearts (Matthew 13:4, 18-19). Father, I pray that You would limit, hinder, and thwart the schemes that Satan has for this family (2 Corinthians 2:11). I pray that we will not be deceived by Satan s clever and attractive ideas and messages (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). I pray that this family would put on the armor of God and would experience victory over all the schemes of the enemy (Ephesians 6:10). I ask that You would release of spirit of effectual and fervent prayer in our family that we might grow in grace and stand firm against all the

schemes of the wicked one (Ephesians 6:18). Father, I plead that we will not give the devil a foothold in their lives or churches (Ephesians 4:27). O God, strengthen and protect us from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Praying For Families The Biblical Manhood newsletter emphasizes the necessity of men praying for their families. Yet, there is a need to pray for other families. It may be your neighbors; it might be the families of your church. The following is a prayer guide of Scripture prayers that you can pray for families. In your prayer time, you might consider taking one of these prayers a day and praying it for another family or families. The key is to plead God s Word in behalf of other families. o Pray that the husband and wife will love each other and serve one another (Ephesians 5:22-33). o Ask the children will have a respectful and obedient spirit (Ephesians 6:1-4). 5 o Plead with God to intervene in the problems that the family is experiencing (Psalm 115:3). o Ask God to meet all the needs of the family physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial (Philippians 4:13). o Plead that any spiritual bondage or demonic activity against the home will be destroyed (1 Peter 5:8-9). o Pray that all the strongholds in the family will be broken and destroyed (Luke 1:37). o Pray that God will give the parents the wisdom and compassion they need for raising their children (Proverbs 2:6). o Ask that each member of the house will come to know Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior (John 3:16). o Plead that the house will be a place of prayer and witness for the whole neighborhood (Colossians 4:3-6). o Pray that the parents and children of the home will have healthy and loving relationships (Psalm 133:1). o Ask that the churches in the area will have a heart and ministries for the families of the area (Psalm 127). o Ask for God s blessing on the home (James 1:17). o Pray for God s goodness and

mercy to be manifested to each member of the family (Psalm 23). Fighting The War Against Lust The Bible tells us that Samson was the strongest man in his generation. He was a real he-man. Yet, He was pitifully vulnerable to temptation. He was a man tragically unable to conquer his lust. Every man faces the following war. Every man has to confront his own struggle with lust. The following are some guidelines to keep mind as you fight the war against lust. Accept the truth about yourself. Every man will struggle with lust. Every man will have to fight against it. Don t believe that you are immune to the struggle. Don t think that you have power over lust, that it can t conquer you. It s crucial in this battle to know your weakness. Accept the truth about yourself. Understand the addictive power of lust. Keep in mind that giving in to lust only tightens its grip in your life. As you yield to it, it takes deeper root in your life. This is why we must resist it with all our hearts. To yield is to 6 give in to its ever-strengthening power. Evaluate yourself. In this war, you must examine yourself. You have to ask yourself, Do I truly want to surrender this struggle to Jesus? Do I believe that He is able to help me overcome this evil? We must be willing to surrender this struggle to Jesus. We cannot do it alone. Only Jesus can save us and help us. We must also trust that Jesus is able to help us. Our faith must be fixed on Him in the midst of this war. Through faith in Jesus, we can confront our lust and have victory. Accept the grace of God. Our struggle with lust can lead us to a deeper appreciation of the grace of God. God is willing to forgive lust. He is willing to forgive this sin as many times as we come to Him confessing our sin to Him. God will not turn us away when we approach Him with a repentant heart. He is willing to cleanse and wash us as we call on Him. Confess your struggles to the Lord (1 John 1:9). God will cleanse and wash us when we come in contrite confession of this sin. Bring it to Him. When you yield

to it, confess it to Him. Even when you strive and fight and you fall, keep coming to Him. He truly does forgive our sin and cleanse us from all transgressions. Share with Him your struggle with lust. Make it known to Him; come clean before Him. Then, cry out to Him for His help. Confess your need and plead for His power to confront lust in your life. Remember that the Lord will not give up on you. Keep in mind that the Lord will not give up on you even if it is the same sin you confessed yesterday. His mercy is fresh and new every morning. When you re truly seeking after Jesus, no sin can keep you from coming to Him. You will find love, freedom, and acceptance with God despite your sin. Ask Him to go deep in your heart and heal what is causing you to stumble. Don t listen to the lies of the evil one. He will tell that God will never receive you again that God no longer loves you. He will try to convince you that God will never have mercy on someone who has thought and done the things that you have thought and done. Your Father will not give up on you. 7 Take up your shield. Our shield against lustful thoughts is the Word of God. When lust attempts to control your mind, take up your shield. Guard your mind through the shield of faith. Make it a goal to memorize Romans 6:12-14. Then when you re tempted, use these words as your shield: I will not let sin reign in my body. I will not offer my body as an instrument of wickedness. Sin is not my master. I am under grace. Jesus is my Lord. Strive to live without secrets. Sin grows best in the dark. As long as sin is secret, it will have power in your life. God knows our heart; He knows our deepest secrets. We can fool others; we can even fool ourselves. However, we can never fool God. Because of this, we must be real and transparent about our struggle with God. We must be honest with Him about our weaknesses and our struggles. Seek the counsel of a trustworthy Christian. Ask God to help you find an accountability partner. You need someone in your life that is going to ask you the tough questions. You

need someone who is going to hold you accountable for your thought life. Commit to the Job Covenant In Job 31:1, Job commits to a pure thought life concerning the opposite sex. Pure thoughts about the opposite sex are an intentional choice. Commit to the Job Covenant: I make a covenant with my eyes to keep my mind pure and not to lust after women. Review it on a daily basis. Ask God to help you practice it. Renew your commitment to it after you have yielded and experienced God s cleansing.
