Order of Worship Saint Stephen s Chapel August 12, 2018 Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost Preparation for Worship Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1 If people like you, they'll listen to you, but if they trust you, they'll do business with you. Zig Ziglar Call to Worship Rev. Manny Alaniz Minister: The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy! Song of Adoration * All Creatures of our God and King All creatures of our God and King Lift up your voice and with us sing Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou burning sun with golden beam Thou silver moon with softer gleam (Chorus) O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou rushing wind that art so strong Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along, O praise Him! Alleluia! Thou rushing morn in praise rejoice Ye lights of evening find a voice (Chorus)

Thou flowing water pure and clear Make music for Thy Lord to hear Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou fire so masterful and bright That givest man both warmth and light (Chorus) All ye men of tender heart Forgiving others take your part O sing ye! Alleluia! Ye who long pain and sorrow bear Praise God and on Him cast your care (Chorus) Let all things their Creator bless And worship Him in humbleness O praise Him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son And praise the Spirit, Three in One (Chorus). *Prayer of Invocation *Affirmation of Faith The Heidelberg Catechism, Q/A #32 Leader: People: Christian, why are you called a Christian? Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity. *********************** The Heidelberg Catechism originated in Germany in 1562 under the authority of Elector Frederick III, who ruled the most important German province, the Palatinate, from his castle in Heidelberg. He commissioned the preparation of a new catechism for guiding ministers and teachers in instructing people in the Christian faith.. Song of Praise * Here I Am to Worship Light of the World You stepped down into darkness Open my eyes Let me see Beauty that made This heart adore You Hope of a life Spent with You

(Chorus) Here I am to worship Here I am to bow down Here I am to say that You're my God You're altogether lovely Altogether worthy Altogether wonderful to me King of all days Oh, so highly exalted Glorious in Heaven above Humbly You came To the earth You created All for love's sake became poor (Chorus) You're altogether lovely Altogether worthy Altogether wonderful to me. God s Renewal Understanding Ourselves Rightly Mr. Jordan Wright Leader: And he called the people to him again and said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person. (Mark 7:14-16; 21-23) Public Confession Leader: Let us confess our sins together. People: Almighty God, in Jesus Christ you love us, but we have not loved you. You have opened your heart to us, and in our pride we have spurned your care. You have given us all things, and we have squandered your gifts. We have grieved you and caused hurt to others, and we are not worthy to be called your children. Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Cleanse us from our sin and receive us again, that we might nevermore stray from your love but always remain within the sound of your voice.

Silent Confession Assurance of Pardon and Comfort 1 John 1:5, 9 Leader: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Song of Renewal * Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go O Love that will not let me go I rest my weary soul in thee I give thee back the life I owe That in thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be O light that followest all my way I yield my flickering torch to thee My heart restores its borrowed ray That in thy sunshine s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be O Joy that seekest me through pain I cannot close my heart to thee I trace the rainbow through the rain And feel the promise is not vain That morn shall tearless be O Cross that liftest up my head I dare not ask to fly from thee I lay in dust lifes glory dead And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be. Prayer for the People Greeting Mr. Wright

*Scripture Reading Mrs. Kristie Alaniz Genesis 12:10-20 Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, This is his wife. Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake. 14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. 17 But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 So Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go. 20 And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had. Reader: People: This is The Word of The LORD. Thanks be to God. The Sermon Rev. Alaniz Faith And Famine A Journey of Faith A Sermon Series on the Life of Abraham Songs of Blessing * On Eagle s Wings You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord Who abide in His shadow for life Say to the Lord, "My Refuge My Rock in Whom I trust." (Chorus) And He will raise you up on eagle's wings Bear you on the breath of dawn Make you to shine like the sun And hold you in the palm of His Hand

The snare of the fowler will never capture you And famine will bring you no fear Under His Wings your refuge His faithfulness your shield (Chorus) For to His angels He's given a command To guard you in all of your ways Upon their hands they will bear you up Lest you dash your foot against a stone (Chorus) And hold you in the palm of His Hand. *Offertory Prayer * Be Thou My Vision Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art Thou my best thought, by day or by night Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise Thou mine inheritance, now and always Thou and Thou only, first in my heart High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art High king of heaven, my victory won May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall Still be my vision, O ruler of all. *Benediction Minister: Rev. Alaniz May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord turn his face to you and give you his peace. People: Amen! (With great enthusiasm)
