NEWS & NOTES October 26, 2018 MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR Last Sunday, there was a Time and Talent Information Form in your worship bulletin, and you will find one the bottom of this edition of News and Notes. If you have filled one out in previous years, why are we aski you to do it again? Stewardship is about more than finances. Yes, Southminster Presbyterian Church needs the financial commitment of our members so that we do not have to forgo needed building repairs or end up cutting programs and staff. However, Stewardship is about all of life. The earth is the Lord s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. (Ps 24:1) Every good gift is from God, and God asks us to be good care-takers of those gifts. Our time, our talents a special abilities, our energy and enthusiasm, our faithfulness and joy: all are opportunities to make God a priority in how we approach our time on this earth. A church staff seeks to equip, encourage, educate and love the members of a congregation in ways that h those members answer their own calls to ministry. As you look over the Time and Talent Information Form below, please reflect on what you are doing now and what you might consider doing in the future. Even if 1

don t have a place to utilize a particular gift right away, we can share your interest with the appropriate gro so they will know about you. Please note that the information form also gives you a place to update your contact information an give us an emergency contact person. Thank you for all the things you already do in the life of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Because of yo commitment to try to be the head, heart, and hands of Jesus Christ, our congregation is making a differe in people s lives both in the church and in the community. WHY GET THE GLORY TO GOD HYMNAL? It is much easier to read for both the congregation and choir. It contains songs that are currently being sung by the vast majority of Presbyterian churches but are absent from our services. (It was published 5 years ago) It has over 800 hymns, psalms and spiritual songs, including a wider variety of communion hymns. I a musical setting for every Psalm, music from six different continents, and music covering all major historical and contemporary sacred genres, including 35 Gospel hymns. Most congregations, including this one, only sang about half of the hymns in the old blue hymnal (published almost 30 years ago). The new hymnal takes those most frequently used hymns and add some of the older hymns that people missed when they were excluded from the blue hymnal. ORDER NOW! You can fill out the form below and send it or bring it to the church along with your check. NEW HYMNAL DEDICATION FORM Glory to God Use a separate form for each hymnal. Each hymnal is $20.
