How to Prayerwalk Praying On-Site With Insight In hundreds of cities around the world, God is helping Christians to pray as they pass through the streets of their communities. We ve come to use the word prayerwalking to describe this kind of on-site intercession. As you prayerwalk, your prayers extend beyond your own concerns, focusing directly on the needs of others and opening yourself to see them with God s eyes and heart. Pray with a Partner. You can prayer walk alone, but many find that their prayers are more focused when expressed with a friend. Pray audibly for clarity and better agreement. As you finish, discuss or even write down the prayers, people, and places of most importance. You ll be ready for the next round of on-site prayer. Pray with God s Spirit. Invite the Spirit of God to accompany you, guiding your steps and your words. Be attentive during moments of silence, allowing the Holy Spirit to help you see with His eyes and pray in accordance with His heart. Pray with God s Word. Read Scripture aloud. God breathed it and loves to bless it. Express God s thoughts in your own words. Carry Scripture with you by using a small Bible or note cards. Choose a particular verse or theme as a base for your prayers throughout one day s prayerwalk. Use another to launch your prayers the next day, and so on. Pray with Purpose. Pray for the present-hour needs of people and places that you see. Sketch a map to focus on select streets and homes. Pray quietly. You can be on the scene without making one. Pray for God to prepare people to hear and respond to the Gospel. Explain what you are doing to inquirers: We re praying God s blessing on the neighborhood. Are there specific ways we can pray for you or others? Be persistent. Try prayerwalking in the same areas near your work, school or home in a regular way. You ll often find that your prayers deepen and your concern and awareness of God s heart for people increases.

Verses of the Day: Prayerwalking Guide for Sabbath, August 26, 2017 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:9-13 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:1-3 Worship the Lord. Let your prayers be focused on the goodness and glory of God. each person in your community will come to experience the good news of God s grace, forgiveness and new life given us through Jesus. That the Gospel may be clearly taught and understood by all. Pray that God s name will be revered and worshiped. There are many names for God. Each expresses aspects of His character. Some examples are: Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, Shepherd, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Immanuel (God with us), Healer, Comforter, Deliverer, Provider, Creator, King of Kings. etc. Pray that The people in the community will experience God as Savior, Deliverer, Healer, Counselor, etc. A sample prayer might look like this: Father, I love and adore you. I praise you for creating each person in our church and neighborhood. Unfortunately, many have no idea who you really are. Today, Father, I pray that everyone in my home, church, and neighborhood will discover and experience you as a Deliverer (insert other names of God as you feel led). May each one experience your power to bring release from every form of captivity and oppression. In the name of Jesus, Amen. Pray that the kingdom of God will come with power into our community. Satan has been called the Prince of this world. He rules as a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) What greater need is there than to have the kingdom of God come to a home and replace the influence of the kingdom of darkness and sin. Do and pray the following:

Pause on the street. What would it be like if the kingdom of God came into that place? Ask God to help you imagine how a person s life and home would be different if the kingdom of God came into that space. What would change? Pray that this vision would come to pass. Pray that the kingdom of God will come and destroy the kingdom of darkness in that home including, drug and alcohol abuse, violence, pornography, selfishness, greed, etc. Pray that when God s light shines in the darkness that new life would be born in each member of the home and family. Pray that the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven. Where do we go to learn what God s will is? When God brought Israel out of Egypt where they had been slaves for 400 years, he took them to a sacred place and revealed to them his will in the Ten Commandments. Jesus succinctly summarized this when he said: Love the Lord your God will all your heart and all your soul and all your mind... and love your neighbor as yourself. Pray that all forms of idolatry in the neighborhood will cease. That people will stop substituting other things for God. the language in our neighborhood will bring honor and glory to God that true Sabbath rest that comes from trusting God will overcome fear, pride, and worry. respect for parents and authority will be restored to the neighborhood, that God s will be done in relationships with each other. greed, stealing and lies that are so much a part of modern life will be overcome with truth, love, and generosity. Pray that God will meet every need according to his promise. Scripture promises, My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Consider some of the needs of the persons/families that you are praying for. Ask God to help you discern what the deepest needs really are. Make a list of those needs. residents recognize that their deepest need is a relationship with God. the persons/families you are praying for will turn to the Lord to meet their physical, emotions, and spiritual needs. God will provide miraculous answers so that there is no doubt that he responded to their prayers. Pray Forgive us as we forgive others. The prayer for forgiveness is for reconciliation with God and each other. The entire purpose of the cross can be summarized in the words of Christ, Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing (Luke 23:24.) Consider what is going on in your life and the homes of those you are praying for.

God will bring a spirit of conviction, repentance, and confession for behaviors that are destroying homes and lives. they would receive absolute assurance of the forgiveness that God has offers them through Christ. they would be empowered to forgive those that have wounded, betrayed, and hurt them from childhood into adulthood. supernatural peace would fill the place formally held bondage to unforgiveness. Pray Lead us not into temptation. Satan is a masterful tempter who uses our environment, media, friends, and the deceitfulness of our own hearts to lead us astray. those you are praying for will be given daily strength to seek Jesus wisdom so they might avoid people and places that would result in lapsing into sin and addiction. They would fall in love with Jesus and choose his life as their example. Pray Deliver us from evil. We must learn to pray against the forces of evil that are determined to keep people enslaved in sin. People, and in fact entire homes, can be held under the influence and control of Satan. God will help you to identify areas where Satan may be influencing your own life or the lives of those you are praying for. faith will increase to resist Satan s influence and rule in the strength of Christ. for the defeat of the enemy in each life. Pray for the healing of pain and wounds that keep people separated from God. The promise of Isaiah 61 is that Jesus would come to heal the broken-hearted. God wants to make a great exchange by giving joy instead of mourning, praise instead of a despair and faint heartedness, and beauty instead of ashes. Behind all brokenness and dysfunctional behavior are wounds, lies, and emotional upheaval that need healing. Jesus may shine the light into the dark places of each hearts enabling them to identify the wounds that caused them to choose the behaviors that have hurt themselves and others. That people will experience deep and lasing healing in the places of their brokenness and pain leading to inner healing and transformation. freedom and joy will fill the space once dominated by fear and insecurity.

Pray for the Development of Christ-centered Identities. Most people believe deep lies about themselves. These lies have been implanted through the wounds of life. Here are some powerful lies that are often believed: I am stupid I am ugly Girls are more important that boys It is wrong to be angry I am plain Others are more important than I am I can t make decisions on my own I can never be safe I will never amount to anything I can t do anything right If people really knew me they wouldn t like me I am permanently defective I am damaged goods Men should not express emotion I am on my own It is not safe to be alone God is angry with me I am responsible for how others feel I am not capable of succeeding Each of these lies are powerful and destructive. God invites us and those we pray for to learn to live in truth particularly the truth about how God sees us because of what he has done for us through Christ. You and each person you are praying for will find deliverance from these debilitating lies and that all will embrace a Christ-centered identity. Here are some examples that you might pray for yourself and others: I am chosen I am a child of God I am fully forgiven I am cleansed I am given eternal life I am not condemned I am healed I am free I am alive in Christ I am filled with the fullness of God s life and power I will never be abandoned I am filled with the peace and joy of God The Spirit of God lives in me. I am dearly loved Pray that each person/home will become centers of prayer and transformation, bringing the presence of Christ into their neighborhoods and apartment buildings. The goal of all redemption and transformation is that our lives will serve as a powerful witness to His love and power for others as the verse says, that we might display his splendor. Ask God to help you imagine the difference that those you are praying for could make once freed to live as servants of a loving and living God.

each home will become a place of prayer each person will embrace their privilege and responsibility of bringing the presence of Christ into their home and neighborhood. entire apartment buildings and neighborhoods will soon be amazed and transformed by the work of God through our ministry on this area. Worship God! Conclude your prayer walk in worship. If you are able, gather with some others to exalt God! Read the verses for the day. Praise God for answering your prayers. Be excited for what he has done, is doing, and will do. Thank you for participating in this prayer walk!
