At 14 years old he was already an eagle scout, had his driver s license and drove buses full of kids to events. I grew up with touchtone corded phones, cable TV and integrated schools. Around the time I earned my eagle award, I remember thinking how ridiculous this new thing Inside this issue: Special Awards 2 Birthdays & Anniversaries Name The Kids (picture) Daily Scripture Readings for February Presbyterian Presidents 4 Valentine s Day Crafts 5 Who was St. Valentine? 5 Calendar 6 And they caught so many fish the nets were beginning to break.. Jesus cares about the effort we put in at a job, at school or at home. Sometimes it may seem like we are in over our head, but take assurance from Philippians 4:13 that I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Valentine s Day Crafts Saturday 2/8/14 10am-noon THE SUNNYSIDE PAGE 5 These are some of the crafts you can take home Saturday. Its free fun for the whole family! Remembering St. Valentine Valentine s Day has its roots in a brave Christian priest named Valentinus who refused to give up his faith before a Roman emperor ruling over 1600 years ago. He was jailed and asked to renounce his faith, but refused. Some stories passed down through the centuries speak of the priest Valentinus curing the jailer s daughter of blindness. It is said that on the night before his life ended, he wrote a letter of encouragement and friendship to the daughter, and signed it Your Valentine. The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that around 190 million Valentine s Day cards are sent in the US each year. If you include hand-made valentines, such as notes made at schools and churches, the estimated number reaches 1 billion. Take a moment this month to think about how much God loves you and sacrificed to open our eyes in faith. Write someone a note of encouragement, friendship and love.
