THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS LUKE 4:1-13
Luke 4:1-13 Then Jesus returned from the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over, He was hungry.
Luke 4:1-13 The Devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread. But Jesus answered him, It is written: Man must not live on bread alone. So he took Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
Luke 4:1-13 The Devil said to Him, I will give You their splendor and all this authority, because it has been given over to me, and I can give it to anyone I want. If You, then, will worship me, all will be Yours.
Luke 4:1-13 And Jesus answered him, It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only. So he took Him to Jerusalem, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.
Luke 4:1-13 For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you, and they will support you with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
Luke 4:1-13 And Jesus answered him, It is said: Do not test the Lord your God. After the Devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him for a time.
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 You must carefully follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase, and may enter and take possession of the land the Lord swore to your fathers.
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 Remember that the Lord your God led you on the entire journey these 40 years in the wilderness, so that He might humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands.
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 He humbled you by letting you go hungry; then He gave you manna to eat, which you and your fathers had not known, so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 He fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers had not known, in order to humble and test you, so that in the end He might cause you to prosper. You may say to yourself, My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 but remember that the Lord your God gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm His covenant He swore to your fathers, as it is today. If you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods to worship and bow down to them,
Deuteronomy 8:1-3 I testify against you today that you will perish. Like the nations the Lord is about to destroy before you, you will perish if you do not obey the Lord your God.
Real life comes from God, not food.
What is Satan tempting Jesus with?
Satan is tempting Jesus to be self-reliant.
When Satan comes for you, where is he most likely to strike? What are your greatest felt needs?
1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you. Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion,
1 Peter 5:6 looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
1 samuel 13:13-14 Samuel said to Saul, You have been foolish. You have not kept the command which the Lord your God gave you. It was at this time that the Lord would have permanently established your reign over Israel,
1 samuel 13:13-14 but now your reign will not endure. The Lord has found a man loyal to Him, and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not done what the Lord commanded.
Jesus is the bread of eternal life.
John 6:25-26 When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, Rabbi, when did You get here? Jesus answered, I assure you: You are looking for Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
Matthew 20:26-28 It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
John 6:27-35 Don t work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal of approval on Him.
John 6:27-35 What can we do to perform the works of God? they asked. Jesus replied, This is the work of God that you believe in the One He has sent. What sign then are You going to do so we may see and believe You? they asked.
John 6:27-35 What are You going to perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
John 6:27-35 Jesus said to them, I assure you: Moses didn t give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the real bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
John 6:27-35 Then they said, Sir, give us this bread always! I am the bread of life, Jesus told them. No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.
John 6:47-48 I assure you: Anyone who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
John 6:49 Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness and died.
