November 2016 Monthly Newsletter of Parrish United Methodist Church SonTimes Church Office: 12140 69th St. East P.O. But in the interest of good communication, I say simply Thank you! Thank you for the love you have shown me and my family this past month. Thank you for the kindness you have expressed to me through personal words, cards, and gifts. Thank you for being such a loving and supportive church. I do not believe I can adequately communicate how truly grateful I am. At times I have even felt a little tongue tied in trying to put into words how blessed you have made me feel. So, where I have been at a loss for words, allow me to appropriate Paul s thoughts and make them mine, I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now Philippians 1:3-5 In this season of gratitude, as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, know how thankful I am for you and that God has called me to serve as your Pastor. It is a blessing to be partnered with you in ministry, and I look forward to many more years of serving and growing together. Yours in love, Chris

Page 3 Route 66 Youth bringing Jesus Christ into the lives of teenagers through Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. Youth Leaders Joe & Julie McNaughton Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good: his love endures forever - Psalm 106:1 We have jumped right into the fall holidays! The youth students are wrapping up a few Scary, Gross and Weird Stories from the Bible by exploring God s power and mercy, along with how our choices can affect our consequences. There have been tooth brushing contests, videos, skits, games and discussion these past several Wednesdays. As we approach Thanksgiving, we will focus on God s love, and the many ways we can be thankful. Actually, we are very thankful for these youth kids. Some of our youth are able to attend nearly every Wednesday night, and some not as often. Homework, projects, practice, and family scheduling can make it tough to get to the Youth Hall, so we are very thankful for the wonderful time we do get to spend with each and every one of these middle and high school students. We sincerely hope that they, and you, have a blessed Thanksgiving! 4th Annual Family Night Turkey Bowl Friday, November 4th 6:30-8:30 pm Get ready for our 4 th annual Turkey Bowl, complete with great food, games, and lots fun! Page 4 In the depths of who I am, I rejoice in God my Savior. Luke 1:47 Children s Ministry Ethel Pawley November good food, football, family and friends are just a few of the thoughts that come to mind when we think about the celebration of Thanksgiving. As we know, the main focus is about being thankful for all that God has provided. During the month of November, the children will be learning about God s provision for the Israelites as they spent 40 years in the desert. There are many valuable life lessons that the children will learn as we explore the unique situations that the Israelites experienced. We will learn the importance of thankfulness and being thankful to God who provided for our greatest need, a Savior. As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we can thank God for so many things and we can teach our children to have a thankful heart. Kids.com Music Group Kids.com Music Group is growing and it is exciting that they will be participating in our Christmas Musical. Kids.com Music Group meets two times a week, Sunday mornings at 9:15 am and Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm. If your child would like to participate in the Christmas Musical they can attend either practice time. The Christmas Musical will be performed Saturday and Sunday, December 17 th and 18 th. There will be more information as the dates get closer and we will be busy practicing! MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, is continuing to grow as we meet from 9:30-11:30 am, in Room 125, on the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesdays of the month. Children have their own MOPPETS group. During the month of November we will be exploring opportunities to enhance our relationships with friends and family. Our MOPS group has taken on their first service project of providing blankets to be distributed to children in a crisis need situation and children in foster care. Moms should bring scissors and a yard stick to the November meetings as we will be making no sew blankets. MOPS welcomes any mother of a child, from infant to kindergarten, to come and join our group. Family Night is finally here! our 4 th Annual PUMC Turkey Bowl is Friday, November 4 th, 6:30-8:30 pm. Page 5 The Living Nativity is a Parrish United Methodist tradition. This outreach provides our community with an opportunity to walk through various scenes assembled in the field behind the church with Biblical characters portrayed by our own church members. They will meet Isaiah, see shepherds, hear the choir of angels and watch the wise men travel seeking out the prophesied Savior. From the moment our guests are greeted upon entering the sanctuary, to the time they leave our building, our purpose is to share the story of Christ with them. There are many ways to help make this church-wide outreach event a true gift to our community. We are looking for welcoming faces to guide our guests through the experience, helpful hands to assist children in making easy crafts, talented bakers to provide treats for the guests and cast, friendly faces to serve refreshments, and folks who enjoy dressing up in costume and are willing to speak words of truth to bring the outdoor drama to life. There are also many behind-the-scenes duties to be done if that is your specialty. Thank you to all those who have helped in the past! We are seeking both returning and new volunteers to help fill the many roles that make this event happen. You may sign up in the Gathering Place or by contacting Joe or Julie McNaughton at 723-9659 or the church office at 776-1539 or email us at mcnaughton@parrishumc.com.
