An adult and youth lector is assigned to each weekend Mass. Contact Dan Mahoney for all Music Ministry details. ADULT CHOIR has members high-school age and older. The choir sings on Sundays at either the 9:00AM or 11:30AM Mass, and on Holy Days. Ability to read music is not necessary. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 8:00-9:30PM, September through June. CHILDREN S / YOUTH CHOIR is made-up of students in grades 1-8. The choir sings the first Sunday of each month at the 9:00AM Mass. Rehearsals are Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-5:00PM as scheduled, September through Easter Sunday. MIDDLE SCHOOL HAND BELL CHOIR is for students in grades 7-8. Rings once a month at the 11:30AM Mass. Rehearsals are Tuesday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00PM as scheduled, September through Easter Sunday. INTERGENERATIONAL HAND BELL CHOIR welcomes those high-school age and older. Rings once a month at a weekend Mass. You do not need to be able to read music. It is helpful if you are familiar with time signatures and basic notation. Instructions are gladly offered to new members. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:00-7:50PM, September through May. CANTORS participate at Sunday Mass and special liturgies throughout the year. Cantors are members of the Adult Choir. FOLK GROUP sings at the 5:00PM Saturday Vigil Mass. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome. Rehearsal is a ½ hour before Mass. -3-
ADULT CONFIRMATION is for adults who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Sessions are once a week for approximately four months beginning in January, and focus on instruction and preparation for the sacrament. Contact Louise Timko Baptism / Sponsorship sessions are held the first Tuesday of every month for parents / godparents / sponsors. Wanted: couples/adults to be part of the Sacrament Preparation Team. Teams present on a rotating basis. Training provided. Contact Sr. Nadine Boyle, RSM RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS) is for adults: who have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, but would like to learn more about becoming Catholic. who have not been baptized in any religion. who have been baptized Catholic, but never received Eucharist and Confirmation. (For Confirmation ONLY, see above.) RCIA MEMBERS meet every Sunday, following the 9:00AM Mass. The year-long sessions are spiritual, informational and formational in nature. Full reception into the Church takes place at the Easter Vigil. CATECHISTS are also welcome to join the RCIA leadership team. Training is provided and with our team approach, it is not necessary to be at every weekly RCIA session. Contact Louise Timko RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM The Church of the Sacred Heart offers several programs for religious education, including Whole Community Catechesis, a year-round monthly program, beginning in September. Meetings are on Wednesdays 6:00-9:00PM or Sundays 3:00-6:00PM. ALL parishioners in every age group are invited to attend. We also offer a two-week (ten-day) Summer Session, K thru 8 th grade. Enrollment in this program is limited due to space, and can only be offered to parishioners (must be a parishioner before March of the year you wish to enroll) whose children are up-to-date on their religious education. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a zero absence policy. Volunteer catechists are always needed. CARD MINISTRY sends notes of encouragement to parishioners who are sick, homebound, in nursing homes, in the armed services, receiving the sacraments and on sacramental anniversaries, and more. Contact Gerry Dalfanzo FUNERAL PLANNING may include both the planning of a Funeral Mass or Service and/or the selection of a cemetery burial option. GOD S SPECIAL PEOPLE gather on the second Saturday of the month. Persons with special needs join friends & family for a noon Mass and luncheon that follows sponsored by various parish and community groups. Volunteers assist. October through May. Contact Angela Mercurio NURSING HOME VOLUNTEERS assist the residents at the celebration of weekly Mass or prayer service. Mass every Monday at 10:00AM, at the Cedar Oaks/Arista Care Nursing Home. Contact Mary McNerney PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY are parishioners who meet to crochet/knit lap robes, afghans, etc. These items are made mostly with donated yarn from Sacred Heart parishioners. The items are then blessed and distributed to those who are ill at home, in hospitals, nursing homes, or who have lost a loved one. This ministry is perfect for those who are looking for a way to serve the Church and others without the worry of how to make the time commitment. Group meets the first Tuesday and third Thursday of the month. Contact Joanne Otlowski SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY is a faith-based ministry of Sacred Heart parishioners serving the poor, the homeless, and those in need due to unforeseen circumstances (loss of employment, shelter, sickness, etc.) with emergency distribution of food and/or funds for utilities or housing. Funding for our food pantry is provided entirely by donations from our parishioners. Families in need, please call 908-756-0633, ext. 112, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 9:00AM & 11:00AM. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND are pastoral ministers who bring Holy Communion and pray with those who are physically unable to regularly worship at Church.
