Pastor s Note A Word of Thanksgiving.. We always thank God, the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God's people. Colossians 1:4-5 Believe it or not, the month of November the second last month of the year is now upon us. November is the month in which we celebrate our national day of thanksgiving, and thus I wanted to take time this month to let you know how thankful I am for each of you and specifically those who are doing so much to serve Christ and our church. The challenge of having a new pastor and a part-time pastor at that is that it can create a lot of new work! Unfortunately, the new work does not usually replace the old work already going on, but you have graciously and generously suffered through my learning curve without complaint! Indeed, the past couple months have been busy with getting to know one another, and adjusting to a new way of being together in ministry as pastor and people. And yet the regular work of ministry has carried on, and everyone continues to step up and serve. When Paul wrote to the believers in Colossae, he was excited to express his joy at the fact that they were devoted to God and to each other. As we continue to move forward in ministry together, it is my prayer that this becomes more and more a description of who we are as Klamath Falls First United Methodist Church. I continue to believe that the best days for KFFUMC are still ahead as we seek to be the people God has called us to be. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your willingness to sacrificially serve Christ and his Church, and to live out your love for all of God s people. Bazaar Update United Methodist Women is adjusting to changes along with our congregation. The feasibility of a full-scale bazaar and luncheon has waned as our beloved members have left to be with family elsewhere. Or, after years of faithful service, they find it difficult to invest the hours, strength and energy required for the set-up and conducting of this major fundraiser, even with generous help from other congregation members. The mission remains the same, however to support the many mission projects at home and abroad that empower, guide, and protect women and children and which help us as individuals to develop spiritually. Our new approach to support our pledge to these mission goals will still include selling the nuts which are so popular -- at the church and also through a mailing list which offers them to other churches and schools. We will also be using other venues. Listed below are those venues, dates and times where we will be selling nuts and home baked pies (Merrill Bazaar) and nuts, baked goods, and handcrafted items (Senior Center Christmas Bazaar). We hope our wonderful bakers will continue to provide their specialties. Help will also be needed in staffing the booths for shifts at those venues. The Merrill Community Bazaar on November 16 and 17. We will sell our nuts and pies. Any remaining pies will be sold after church on November 18. Fruit Pies*: If you are willing to bake fruit pies for the sale, a sign up sheet is available at the church or you may contact the church office at klamathfumc@gmail.com or 541-884-4053. Pumpkin and possibly Lemon Meringue pies will be made at the church on November 15. Helpers: A sign up sheet is available at the church for the following: Set up on Thursday, November 15, Baking pumpkin and lemon meringue pies at the church on November 15 Staffing the booth on November 16 and/or 17th, Clean up on the 17th, Selling pies after church on Sunday. The Senior Center Bazaar on December 1. We will sell our nuts, home crafted items, and home baked goods. Reaching Out and Helping Others Pastor s Discretionary Fund What is this fund? It is a fund used by the pastor to assist people in our community and our congregation with emergency needs not provided by other sources. Checks are made out to the business rather than the person requesting funds; i.e., AMA Gasoline. How is it funded? It is funded through our birthday offerings and special donations, outside of our operating budget. If you wish to make a donation to this fund, please mark it Discretionary Fund or Outreach Fund. Thank you for helping us to be ready to assist people in need! Join Adam Hamilton as he examines Christmas through the eyes of Joseph. Absent from much of the biblical narrative, Joseph never spoke a word, but his courageous actions were crucial to the birth of Christ and God's salvation plan for humanity. As you read this book, you will understand how Joseph's story is much like our own. In life, we encounter circumstances that we would never have chosen for ourselves. At times it can be tempting just to walk away. Joseph provides us a great example of humbly obeying God even when we don't understand and faithfully moving forward in the strength that God provides. Exchange your doubt for courage this Advent and Christmas season. Learn to accept and glorify God's will even when circumstances make it difficult to do so. 7
Financial Report MEMBERS and FRIENDS OCTOBER, 2018 has closed. All bills and taxes have been paid. The monthly payroll was made. Operating income for the month totaled $6,562.37. Operating expenses totaled $10,757.81. The major expense for the month was the Insurance premium ($3,796.50) covering the church building and parsonage for the next 6 months. This is a major unavoidable expense costing an average $633.00 each month. We are now paid up to 4-19-2019, at which time another $3,796.50 will be due. As we enter November, 2018, we have an Operating fund balance of: $29,927.88. However, a portion of these monies are contained in outside or side pocket funds which have nothing to do with budgeted operating monies. As of the first of November, eight such funds existed. The funds and their respective balances: Youth Group: $576.86 PALM Custodial: 13 cents (0.13) Organ: $1,611.45 PALM dinners: $4,180.66 OR-IDA Chair Grant: $1,114.59 Camperships: $150.00 Memorial Fund: $14,648.50 Benevolences: $20.00 After subtracting out the total of the 8 funds ($22,302.19), there is a carryover to November, 2018, of actual OPERATING monies totaling: $7,625.69 (a month-to-month decrease of: (-) $4,195.44 and: (-) $20,620.70 below the carryover year ago). I sent a $684.00 apportionment payment into the Conference during the month of October. As a reminder, $12,684.00 (68%) has been paid toward Apportionments with a 2018 balance owing of: $6,000.00. With 2 months remaining, I will continue to carefully review the possibility of any further payments into Conference Apportionments. The Capital Account balance (Trustee monies) finished October, at: $5,100.43. We are approaching the seasonal holiday period when gifting to the church will, prayerfully, increase and allow us some cushion as we step into 2019.
