Call to Worship The Scriptural call to worship at the beginning of our service is a reminder that, as we gather, it is God who initiates and reveals Himself to us through His Word, and we respond to Him. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your steadfast love in the morning, and Your faithfulness by night, For You, O Lord, have made me glad by Your work; at the works of Your hands I sing for joy. Psalm 92:1 2, 4 Corporate Confession During this time we acknowledge that we have sinned against a holy God, and we have the assurance that, because of Christ, we have been forgiven and are blessed recipients of God s mercy, grace and love. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:29 32 Offering Giving is an act of worship in which we give generously of our substance to further the mission of the church and to bring glory to God. 3
Husbands & Fathers What is the overall moral vision of the family? He should take initiative, asking that question and pursuing an answer with his wife at his side. What do we believe about God and the world and family and culture? All families stand for something. All families are known for something. All families are called to glorify God according to their gifts. What does that look like? And that is the man s responsibility. Pursue that. Figure that out. A man feels responsibility to take initiatives to form and carry through that moral vision of the family and, of course, he is doing it through the constant interaction with his wife. She would not be thrilled to be left out of that formulation, but I think most Christian women are thrilled that the husband is taking the initiative and drawing her in to see to it that they have such a moral vision for the family. - John Piper Excerpt taken from Ask Pastor John - What Does It Mean for a Man to Lead His Family Spiritually? www.desiringgod.org/interviews/what-does-it-mean-for-a-man-to-lead-his-family-spiritually For more articles on leading your family, visit: www.desiringgod.org/topics/husbands-fathers Or scan this QR code: MORE RESOURCES: Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp Shepherding a Child s Heart by Tedd Tripp Disciplines of a Godly Man by R. What is The Lord s Supper? The night before Jesus crucifixion, He sat down with His disciples to celebrate the Passover meal. This meal commemorated the pivotal event in Exodus 12 when God s passed over His people in Egypt who put the blood of a lamb over their doorposts. While celebrating this Passover meal, Jesus took the bread from the table, broke it, and said, This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. He then took a cup and gave it to them saying, Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus did this to symbolize His impending death on a cross, which would bring about the forgiveness of sins for many. Furthermore, He commanded His disciples to continually enjoy this meal in remembrance of His sacrifice on the cross. The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11 and subsequently many Christians today refer to this meal as The Lord s Supper, for it was instituted by Jesus and celebrates the memory of His sacrificial death. In addition, we consider The Lord s Supper an ordinance of the church because Christ ordained that it be performed. The New City Catechism QUESTION 19 Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God s favor? Yes, to satisfy His justice, God Himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to Himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer.
