June 2018 PASTOR S PONDERINGS Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. We have been singularly blessed this year by a good influx of new members! Since the first of February, about a dozen folks have joined us in worship, mission and ministry. What may be even more exciting and significant is that five of these newcomers are between 6 months and 6 years of age! They are surely a Godsend and truly an answer to prayer. They will be formally received into membership during the month of June. Since several families are involved, it is doubtful that all will be here on any given Sunday. Therefore, we will welcome them as they are available over the course of several weeks. The implications of this for Christian education and nurture are enormous! Already we have planned for the first Vacation Bible School in a couple of years: 11-15 June, 6:30-8:30 each evening. Sarah Perschall is the director, but she will be looking for plenty of help. Please speak with her, and she can tell you exactly what s needed. A sign-up sheet is in the narthex. The first Confirmation Class in several years will begin in late summer. We anticipate at least four students, one of whom will be in the ninth grade. Since he is already past the age at which we usually have Confirmation, he will attend a week of Campfirmation at Lutheridge 17-23 June. This should count as a full year of Confirmation Classes here, so that he can be confirmed at the end of the next school year. The three younger youth will have the typical two years of instruction here. The class will meet during the Sunday School hour, and I will be teaching. During the month of July, I would like to re-organize the Christian Education Committee to include some of the newcomers whom we are receiving, as well as some who wish to continue serving in educational ministry. The 2018-2019 Sunday School year promises growth in grace and in the likeness of our Lord Jesus. I trust that you will join the momentum which continues to build a vital and vibrant congregation! Servant in Christ, Pastor Clark+ June 2018 Page 1

Council News Active Shooter Training - Several members of Redeemer attended free active shooters training on May 7 sponsored by the Greenville County Sheriff and the Emergency Management Division. Several hundred people from the area attended the training at The Relentless Church in Greenville. The training provided the opportunity to learn about critical thinking skills during an encounter, how to save lives of others and recognize or mitigate possible threats. Follow up actions include simple steps to take during worship and other events at Redeemer to raise awareness and to properly secure the facility, evaluating the purchase of some simple life saving equipment, and to seek an evaluation of our facility by local law enforcement to determine changes that would mitigate unwarranted access to the facility. If you have any questions, contact Russ or Janet Hoade, BJ King, Doug or Missy Logan or myself. Each of us attended the training. Bill Freiberg Redeemer Council President FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS Committee Reports On June 3, there will be a short meeting after service of the Fellowship Committee. Hats off to Dads : On June 17, Father s Day the Fellowship Committee is asking the men of Redeemer Church to bring a hat to church. A parade of hats will follow the service and the children will choose their favorite hat. Any hat will do an old hat, a new hat, and ugly hat, etc. There will be donuts for dads and a beverage served in honor of all the dads on Father s Day. June 2018 Page 5
