Growing in Discipleship Transformed for Ministry January 12, 2014 Sunday Worship 10:00 AM & 5:00 PM Sunday Church School Classes 11:30 AM-12:15 PM Welcome to Calvin Church In Worship: Our worship proceeds unannounced and follows the printed liturgy. During the Epiphany season we celebrate the revelation of Christ to the world. Light floods the surface of our Epiphany banner to reflect the light that Christ s incarnation brought to a world of darkness. Large print resources are available at the information desk. Our facility is equipped with the Loop hearing system. For Children: Ages 0-2: Infant and toddler nurseries are available. Preschool: The Little Children (TLC) gathers downstairs prior to the morning worship. K-2 nd : After the Children s Message the Children s Worship ministry meets downstairs until the conclusion of worship. Parents meet their children there following the service. Children s Bulletins are in the holder in the narthex. Fellowship and Information: Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the morning service. An introductory church DVD is available at the Information Desk. All of our ministries are described in the colorful folders on the table near the nurseries. Calvin CRC Announcements for January 12, 2014 WORSHIP Today, 10 AM and 5 PM Morning Worship: Rev. MacLeod is preaching from Exodus 5:22-6:13, "I Am the Lord, and I Will..." Our offerings are for Mission Outreach. Evening Worship: We gather to feast and to celebrate our ministry with KidsHope. The service includes a potluck supper and a meditation by Rev. MacLeod from Jeremiah 29:1,4-7; "Seek the Welfare of the City." A-L provide a side dish and M-Z provide a hot dish. Our offerings are for the Christian Rest Home. WORSHIP NEXT SUNDAY, January 19 Morning Worship: The sermon series from the book of Exodus will continue with Rev. MacLeod preaching from Exodus 6:14-7:7, "Our Limitations, His Determinations." Our offerings will be for the Ministry Fund. Evening Worship: Pastor Bob Koornneef will lead us in worship. Our offerings will be for Habitat for Humanity. COUNCIL NEWS CLASSIS GRAND RAPIDS EAST meets in regular session this Thursday, January 16 from 4-9 PM at Fuller Ave. CRC. The delegates from Calvin Church are Rev. CHURCH FAMILY There is cake in the fellowship hall after the morning service today in celebration of Tom Harper s 90 th birthday on January 11. Bev Jensen (District #11), a member of Calvin Church for forty-two years died unexpectedly last weekend at the age of seventy-eight. A memorial service for her took place last Thursday. We pray that God will comfort her loved ones. Bev is a sister-in-law of Joanne and Warren Boer. We are grateful for God s faithfulness to Bev and for the role she played in His kingdom. Marge Gritter (District #5) returned to her home last Tuesday and John Joling (District #12) on Wednesday. Both will continue with physical therapy.

Thank you to all my dear fellow church members for remembering me with the Christmas card shower, so many with lovely notes. I miss being in the church which Don and I attended for some sixty years. It has been a blessing. May God Bless all of you in the coming year. MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS Today ADULT EDUCATION: To help us extend Christ s hospitality to the Khanals, our most recent refugee family who are making their home among us, our Refugee Resettlement Committee invites you to hear Dhan Khatiwoda s presentation. A former refugee himself, and now a Job Skills Trainer for Bethany Christian Services Refugee Resettlement Program, Dhan will share a brief history of the Bhutanese refugees in Nepal, a description of life in a refugee camp, cultural adjustment difficulties refugees face, and he will underscore the incredible value of our congregation s pledge to host refugee families in the name of Jesus Christ. Everyone next Sunday INTERGENERATIONAL CHURCH SCHOOL: You are invited to meet in the Fellowship Hall with disciples of Christ, young and old, during the usual Adult Education time, from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM. The topic for this second session is: "Called and Blessed; Abraham's Calling and Ours."

COFFEE GROUNDS TODAY: Specialty coffees and hot chocolate will be served after the morning worship in the Fellowship Hall. Donations are accepted and will be used to defray costs. We encourage you to sign yourself up for a shift on the sign-up board located near the announcement tent. FUNDRAISER EARNINGS: Thanks to you, our congregation, for supporting the Calvin Youth Group by purchasing CYG Note Cards. We were able to earn $505 toward the youth group service trip this coming summer! PROJECT REDLANDS: Our high school youth s summer service trip this year will be to Project Redlands, and will be hosted by The River CRC in Redlands, California. Our youth will have the opportunity to serve the community there in a variety of ways including leading summer camps in an underserved school, serving along in a homeless ministry, and helping with landscaping or other types of labor for needy neighbors. Small group time and worship time will also be a part of each of our days in Redlands. Our trip will take place from Saturday, June 14 to Friday, June 20, 2014. REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS Calvin College and the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present a concert of choral music by Grand Rapids composers in the Calvin College Chapel on Monday evening, January 20. Beginning at 8:00 PM, six local organists, four conductors, and a 32-voice choir will perform the music of Raymond Haan, Roy Hopp, Nick Palmer, Jonathan Tuuk, and Larry Visser. The public is cordially invited.
