The minimum sale prices listed below are less than the minimum sale prices when offered in the immediately preceding county tax sale held under Section 5 of IC 6-1.1-24 and include all fees and expenses of the county directly attributable to the Commissioners Certificate Sale. The Montgomery County Commissioners will accept bids for the certificates of sale, for the price referred to in IC 6-1.1-24-6.1(a)(3), by public auction on January 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM Courthouse Time at the Commissioners Meeting Room. Pursuant to IC 6-1.1-24-5.1, a business entity that seeks to register to bid in an Indiana Commissioners Certificate Sale must provide a certificate of good standing or proof of registration in accordance with IC 5-23 from the Secretary of State to the county treasurer. A person redeeming each tract or item of real property after the sale of the certificate must pay: (A) the amount of the minimum bid under Section 5 of IC 6-1.1-24 for which the tract or item of real property was last offered for sale; (B) ten percent (10%) of the amount for which the certificate is sold; (C) the attorney s fees and costs of giving notice under IC 6-1.1-25-4.5; (D) the costs of a title search or of examining and updating the abstract of title for the tract or item of real property; (E) all taxes and special assessments on the tract or item of real property paid by the purchaser after the sale of the certificate plus interest at the rate of ten percent (10%) per annum on the amount of taxes and special assessments paid by the purchaser on the redeemed property; and (F), all costs of sale, advertising costs, and other expenses of the county directly attributable to the sale of the certificate. If the certificate is sold for an amount more than the minimum bid under Section 5 of IC 6-1.1-24 for which the tract or item of real property was last offered for sale and the property is not redeemed, the owner of record of the tract or item of real property who is divested of ownership at the time the tax deed is issued may have a right to the tax sale surplus. Indiana law prohibits a person who owes delinquent taxes, special assessments, penalties, interest, or costs directly attributable to a prior tax sale, from purchasing tracts or items of real property at a tax sale. Prior to bidding at a tax sale, each bidder must affirm under the penalties for perjury that he or she does not owe delinquent taxes, special assessments, penalties, interest, costs directly attributable to a prior tax sale, amounts from a final adjudication in favor of a political subdivision in this county, any civil penalties imposed for the violation of a building code or ordinance of this county, or any civil penalties imposed by a health department in this county. Further, each bidder must acknowledge that any successful bid made in violation of the above statement is subject to forfeiture. In the event of forfeiture, the bid amount shall be applied to the delinquent taxes, special assessments, penalties, interest, costs, judgments, or civil penalties of the ineligible bidder, and a certificate will be issued to the county executive. The Commissioners specifically reserve the right to withhold from the sale any parcel which has been listed in error, or which otherwise becomes ineligible for sale either prior to the start or during the duration of the auction. All demolition work must include, at a minimum: (1) complete removal of the structures on the premises and their foundations and all debris, (2) filling of any basements, (3) stubbing utility lines to the lot, (4) removal of large dead and scrub vegetation and tree stumps (but not any living trees that may be designated by the City), (5) application of soil cover as necessary, and (6) grading and grass seeding of the finished lot. Proposals must be enclosed in a sealed envelope with Crawfordsville Building Demolition Bid 21 December 2016 or similar and the name of the Bidder on the outside. The City of Crawfordsville at its discretion reserves the right to waive any and all informalities in the bidding and to reject any and all bids. Both the bid price of the licensed contractor who accomplishes the work and an amount representing a reasonable estimate of the cost incurred by the enforcement authority in processing the matter of the unsafe premises may, if not paid, be recorded after a hearing as a lien against all persons having a fee interest, life estate interest, or equitable interest of a contract purchaser in the unsafe premises at 1000 W. Girls and boys basketball both have long breaks over the holidays. All sports have some break around Christmas, but basketball is by far the most extreme. Let s look at some actual dates. Down at Southmont, the boys will play eight times between now and Dec. 17. From there, the Mounties don t play again until Jan. 6 when they act as hosts for the Sugar Creek Classic, which we at proudly sponsor. The girls are in a similar boat. They will play their 14th game on Dec. 16 before being off until Jan. 3. The other boys teams have slightly shorter breaks. Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will play their seventh and ninth games, respectively, on Dec. 21 before the time off. Don t get me wrong, this isn t new. It happens like this every year (at least the few I ve been around). It s just interesting and is an often overlooked factor into the season. However the season was going before the break, two weeks off can change a lot. A hot streak can go cold in the mundane recesses of the same old gym. Conversely, a team can find the time to heal and make adjustments thanks to being off for a couple weeks. The North Montgomery girls have the shortest break of any hoops team. They actually play in the Frankfort tournament on Dec. 23 and will play host to Southmont on Jan. 5 to kick off the new year. Crawfordsville wastes no time getting the girls season back up and running. They ll break from Dec. 21 to just Jan. 2 when they ll entertain Lafayette Central Catholic. The winter athletes are about to hit the ground running! And then stop! And then hit the ground running again! I ll see ya out there. Neil Burk is the Editor of The Paper of Montgomery County. Youthful Chargers must learn quickly By Neil Burk neil@thepaper24-7.com LINDEN Losing five seniors from a 15-8 team is what first-year head coach Eric Danforth is embracing at North Montgomery. The boys basketball squad that lost Baylee Adams, Jordan Banta, Jordan Lewis Alex Parsons and Devon Zachary to graduation will have to get experience early on. That journey begins tonight with a trip to Speedway to kick off the 2016-17 season. Returning lettermen for the Chargers include seniors Caleb Randolph and Ben Dugard and junior Justin Clary. Caleb and Justin have each been with the varsity since their respective freshman years, so that experience from the guard position will be a great benefit, Danforth said. We are also counting on leadership from our other seniors, Ben, Gregory Pietsch and Mitch Merica. Randolph averaged 18.4 points-per-game on his way to being named of Montgomery County s Player of the Year. Clary averaged 7.3 points and 1.2 assists as a sophomore. As for newcomers, Danforth pointed to juniors Quinton Hall and Caleb Donahue as well as freshman Kade Kobel to provide energy. None of them saw varsity action last season. (They) will be counted on to competently execute the game plan when they come onto the floor, Danforth said. The Chargers don t have a ton of height, but aren t severely undersized at any position. Clary and Randolph both stand at 6-feet in the backcourt. Pietsch and match that height at swing positions. Merica stands 6-2 in the frontcourt along with a 6-4 freshman Jack Thompson and 6-3 sophomore Connor Cain. Danforth knows that a tough schedule early on will be a barometer for his team. County rival Southmont is the third game on the schedule, slated for Dec. 2 in New Market. Several of our early opponents appear to have an experience edge over us, so that will provide a test of how rapidly our guys are adapting not only to the new system but to their new roles on the varsity, Dan- photo by Lori Poteet forth offered. Our goal is to provide North Montgomery with its first regional title and Montgomery County s first since 1979. Patience, positive energy and mental toughness will be key ingredients that make this possible. The Charger junior varsity tips off at 6 p.m. at Speedway tonight with varsity to follow. They shot just 29 percent from the field, including less than 10 percent from behind the arc, and found themselves trailing 28-21 at the half. However, the second half was all Athenians, as they limited the Tiger Cubs to just 14 percent from the floor and outscored them 33-10 to move to 1-0 with a 54-38 win. We were too aggressive in our run and jump defense in the first half, and it was giving them open looks (Greencastle shot 59 percent in the first half), said head coach David Pierce. We switched to man-to-man, switching on ball screens to make sure (Collin) York was covered, and we played much better. That defensive pressure limited Greencastle s leading scorer to just 14-points, after he scored seven in the first quarter. Mounties roast Turkey Run Southmont 80, Turkey Run 34 By Neil Burk neil@thepaper24-7.com NEW MARKET Southmont s boys basketball team couldn t have kicked the season off in much better fashion than it did Tuesday at home against Turkey Run. The Mounties got a pre-thanksgiving warmup win in their home opener, 80-34 against the overmatched Warriors. There was a cornucopia of points to go around as Southmont saw 10 of its players put points on the board. None found the bottom of the net more than junior sharpshooter Cam Chadd. Chadd scored 24 points before taking most of the fourth quarter off. Senior swingman Kaleb Swick also had a big night with 13 points and 12 boards. I thought we got (Chadd) where he didn t have to create everything for himself and really got some good looks, which is what we want, Southmont head coach Jon Sparks said. That led to other people getting good looks. We have a team of willing passers and when they run it s fun to watch. The Mounties made their intentions clear early on. Leading 14-8, Southmont scored the next 19 points See ROAST Page A9 Fountain Central 52, North Montgomery 17 By Connor Smith sports@thepaper24-7.com VEEDERSBURG- The North Montgomery girls basketball team (3-2-1, 0-0 SAC) traveled to Class 2A No. 3 ranked Fountain Central (3-0,) to take on the Mustangs. The Charger defense held strong in the first quarter but the solid combination of inside presence and outside shooting was too much to overcome as the Mustangs pulled out the victory 52-17. North Montgomery s game plan was clear from the beginning. They wanted to stop the inside game of Fountain Central. They played zone to mainly combat 6 2 senior Macee Williams. Marlowe sports@thepaper24-7.com GREENCASTLE The Crawfordsville Lady Athenians fell victim to a swarming full court press Tuesday night, and generously served up 31 turnovers to the Lady Tiger Cubs, handing the hosts a 62-33 win in the last game before Thanksgiving. The Lady Athenians committed 18 turnovers in the first half alone that led to a 10-point deficit at the first break, and a 15 point shortfall by halftime, trailing 31-16. We work on it every day, said Crawfordsville head coach Tony Bean, shaking his head in disbelief. There are moments that I see it work as it is supposed to, but we have to keep doing it until we get it right. Give Greencastle credit. They come at you hard, and it is all game long. Crawfordsville tried to claw back in the second quarter, and looked to gain momentum right before the break behind Lauren Kellerman s two long-range jumpers. Crawfordsville lost three careless turnovers that led to six Greencastle fastbreak points. She is going to be a solid college player and we struggled to find someone to match-up with her, added Charger head coach Ryan Nuppnau. Williams ended with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs on the day. We came into the game with a good defensive plan, said Nuppnau, and that plan worked in our favor in the first quarter. The zone was successful for North Montgomery as they held the Mustangs to only six points in the quarter. Becca Adams and Katharyn Sabens scored North s only two baskets as the Chargers trailed by one point after the first. Unfortunately, North Montgomery couldn t hold on forever as Fountain Central tacked on 14 points in the second quarter and held the Chargers to only two points. We started to get into foul trouble and we were forced to move people around defensively. We got in bad match-up situations and we couldn t recoup from there, said Nuppnau. Becca Adams led the Chargers offensively, going 2-for-9 with five points and four rebounds. The Athenians had three in double figures led by Guard s 13, Harris Þ ROAST From Page A8 to bridge the first two quarters and extend the advantage to 33-8 before Turkey Run scored again with 6:38 left in the half. I was really pleased with the intensity and the effort we came out with to start the game, Sparks said. We talked about controlling what we can control. On defense, that s effort and technique. On offense we talked about that we can control the type of looks that we got. And those things happened with ball movement and 12, and Gineris 11. Daulton Bridgewater came from the bench and contributed eight, while Trent Johnson pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, as Crawfordsville out rebounded the taller Tiger Cubs by 12. The Athenians will look to move to 2-0 for the second consecutive year as they are back in action Saturday when they travel to Benton Central to battle the Bison who are coached by former Purdue player Ryne Smith. The JV game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. player movement and I was really pleased with how we came out in both aspects. With a combination of half- and full-court pressure, Southmont forced Turkey Run into 12 first half turnovers and finished the night with 23 points off turnover. Is that here in Thorntown, my daughter asked. I sat for a moment, trying to comprehend my obvious parenting fail. No, Thorntown s entire population doesn t equal half the number of people in the Macy s parade. It takes place in New York City. Do you not remember watching it on TV every year? Remind me.
