United Methodist Church Page 2 Do you feel the excitement? Do you feel the energy? Some new things are happening and it s exciting around here! The start of Sunday School each year brings a breath of fresh air. The teachers are refreshed and the children are excited. The Sunday School mission project of providing healthy weekend snacks for Platteville children in need is something we ve been talking about, so I am thrilled Ellen and the children are taking it on! New this fall is expanded programming on Wednesday nights. We have youth groups from 1 st grade to high school! Our only adult group is a Disciple Bible Study, but we hope to be adding others. We also have a free dinner on Wednesday evenings before the programming. Even if you don t stay for a youth or adult group, be sure to come and enjoy dinner. We are hoping that next year we will be able to open the dinner to the community, but we need to get it worked into a system first. Right now individuals are serving one week at a time. It might be helpful if we had one person overseeing this meal ministry. Is God calling you to lead this ministry? If you are disappointed that you missed the opportunity to serve either as a children, youth or adult leader, or if you were hoping to help with the dinner, it s not too late! Contact Pastor Cheryl and she will find a place that will help you make a difference for others in this new endeavor. If that was not enough, in October, the Leadership Board will be sharing their vision for the future of the church. I hope that you will find that exciting as well! Jesus told us that the most important thing is to love God with all of our being, and to love others. As followers of Jesus we are to tell others about him. As a church we continue to grow in all of these areas as we are becoming all God created us to be. I hope you are as excited as I am about our currently reality as well as our future! May we listen well to God so that we are working alongside him as he builds his Kingdom! I ll see you in church, where we grow as Jesus disciples.

United Methodist Church Page 3 A LOOK AHEAD STEWARDSHIP BRUNCH ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 TH Every year, we have a stewardship campaign: a time to consider the gifts that God has given to us and how we steward, or care for, those gifts. This year we will be considering how our stewardship is leaving a legacy. We will spend some time talking about hospitality, the culture of our church, and the legacy that it leaves. We ll look to the future of our church and what we are doing to create that future. We ll talk about tithing in light of what we learned earlier this year about no longer being under the Law of Moses. We will commit to what we will give to God through the church in 2019, and as in years past, we will celebrate with a brunch between services. ALL SAINTS DAY On Sunday, November 4 th we will be remembering loved ones who have passed from this life to eternal life since last All Saints Day. If you have someone you would like remembered, please submit their name to the office so that your loved one will be included. Extra candles will be available for remembering those who have passed away in years past, but they will not be listed nor read aloud. VETERAN S DAY This year Veteran's Day will be Sunday, November 11 th and we have a unique opportunity to honor and give thanks for all those who have served. One of the ways we will do that is to have a video featuring photos of those who served/are serving and are related to our congregation in some way. If you have a photo you would like to share, please get it to the church office by Thursday, November 1 st. You can do this in one of several ways: 1. Scan the picture and email it to the office. 2. Bring a copy of the photo into the church office. 3. Bring the original photo into the church office and we will return it to you on Sunday, November 11 th. IMPORTANT: In addition to the photo, please make sure that you include the name of the soldier, branch they served in, and relationship to you.

(advertising our Messy Church program) Dinner at Our House (advertising Ruby's Pantry/Wednesday Night Programming) Create Your Own There will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby. If you have any questions or would like help with resources and ideas, please contact Pastor Cheryl.

United Methodist Church Page 5 SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS We observed Bible Sunday this fall on September 30 th at both worship services. The Beginner s Bible was presented to all 3 year olds, and those young children who are new to our Sunday School program. The Hands-On Bible was presented to all 5 th grade students. This year, our Sunday School children will begin a new mission project. We will be supporting the Platteville School District in a new program we are calling Operation Snackpack! There are children who receive free breakfast and lunch on school days, but the school counselors are concerned about them over the weekends. The counselors from Neal Wilkins and Westview schools have identified 40 children who need food support on days they are not in school. They will be purchasing breakfast, lunch, and snack food from Second Harvest. The counselors will slip the snack packs into the children s backpacks on Friday afternoons for the children to take home for the weekend. Our students will host the Coffee Fellowship on the first Sunday of each month, and those donations will be given to the school to purchase the food used in the snack packs. All the money from their Sunday School offerings and fundraising will go towards Operation Snackpack! Congratulations to the David & Rachel Knaster on the baptism of their daughter Kennedy! We are so excited to have all of you as part of our church family!
