Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Review Lack of Desire Room John 6:25-71 All of your deepest desires are met in Jesus Christ and in His will for your life

Review The Busyness Room John 17:4, Luke 4:1 To overcome busyness, we must depend on the Spirit s power and follow His lead

The Worry Room What Keeps Us From Experiencing God? (part 3) Matthew 6:25-34, Philippians 4:6-7

Matthew 6:25-34 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Matthew 6:25-34 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:25-34 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

Matthew 6:25-34 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you you of little faith?

Matthew 6:25-34 31 So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

Matthew 6:25-34 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Why do we worry? Life is full of uncertainty

Why do we worry? Life is full of uncertainty Problem: We want to be in control 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:27)

Recognize that control is an illusion Matthew 6:27 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Recognize that only God is truly in control Matthew 6:26-29 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Recognize that only God is truly in control Matthew 6:26-29 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

Recognize that only God is truly in control Matthew 6:26-29 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

Recognize that only God is truly in control Psalm 115:3 3 Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him

Recognize that only God is truly in control 1Chronicles 29:10-12 10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,

Recognize that only God is truly in control 1Chronicles 29:10-12 Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.

Recognize that only God is truly in control 1Chronicles 29:10-12 11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,

Recognize that only God is truly in control 1Chronicles 29:10-12 for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.

Recognize that only God is truly in control 1Chronicles 29:10-12 12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

Recognize that only God is truly in control Isaiah 46:10 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.

Recognize that only God is truly in control Psalm 93:1-2 1 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;

Recognize that only God is truly in control Psalm 93:1-2 indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.

Recognize that only God is truly in control Psalm 135:6 6 The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.

Surrender and trust in God If life is uncertain & control is an illusion, then our only hope for true peace is to surrender & trust in the only One who is truly in control

o 1Peter 5:5-7 5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

o 1Peter 5:5-7 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (ESV)

Surrender and trust in God Surrender & trust go hand in hand 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

Surrender and trust in God To the degree that we surrender and trust in God s control will be the degree that we experience His peace

Pray Philippians 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Pray Philippians 4:6-7 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
