M I L E S T O N E S TRAVAIL HOUSE TWO YEARS Serving Our Community! TRAVAIL House just turned 2! It seems like yesterday when we just moved in! Everything since then about this house has been a miracle from the furnishings, to the walk by faith to keep it open, to every women and child God has sent our way. TRAVAIL House can hold up 9-12 women and their children. TRAVAIL House assists with any need that we through Jesus can meet. We desire to help those in need in our community, to become independent and learn the necessary life skills, so that they will never find themselves in a homeless, hopeless, abusive relationship again. We walk with our ladies on a daily basis. TRAVAIL House is not your regular shelter/ transitional home it is a refuge and place of emotional and spiritual healing in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Our staff and volunteers offer selfless, sacrificial and unconditional love to all individuals who call and come thru our doors. Travail House provides a place of peace, rest, and safety for those who have been wounded, abused, or broken. To provide an environment to receive acceptance, faith based counseling, and mentoring. To restore freedom and impart healing to each individual. All these said, with the vast scope of help needed and provided, we desire to work with individuals like you, businesses and organizations to help provide these needs. We would love to work with you to get you plugged into the areas which best use your individual gifts and skills. Any donations are welcomed! R E M E M B R A N C E / A C T I V I T I E S DEFENDING LIFE CLASS Clelie Carpenter Defending life class at TRAVAIL House with Mrs. Clelie Carpenter was astounding. The main focus of the class was to bring awareness of the cruelty of an abortion, and the impact it has on human life. Abortion affects the mother, and the child equally. You see, life is created at the very second of conception: a human being. The fact that it has not been born yet, doesn't mean the conceived baby is not human. Therefore, we as Christians should defend that baby s life: a human life! There is no choice as to whether to terminate a life. To terminate a life is to kill and to kill is to murder! The class was very graphic and through. I surely recommend it. You will be well rounded on the arguments of pro-life vs. pro choice stands and able to back it up with what the word of God has to say about it. Any questions contact Mrs. Clelie Carpenter at cleliecarpenter1@gmail.com Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, Behold, we did not know this, does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work? Proverbs 24:11-12 NUTRITION CLASS Kristin West Ms Kristin West, our Mid-City Pastor s wife, and certified nutritionist for The Baton Rouge General Hospital, came over to TRAVAIL House to teach the ladies how to better their eating habits by keeping smaller portions, lowering sugar intake, and keeping a healthy eating regimen for those who have diabetes, and special dietary needs. The class was tons of fun! The kids enjoyed discovering the nutritional value of their favorite snacks and meals For the adults it was an eye opener about how we can get caught up unto some unhealthy eating habits, and how that adds inches to our waist line, ups our cholesterol, and spikes our sugar count to nonetheless how it pollutes our digestive system with unnecessary junk to process. Thanks Mrs. Kristin for your time, and marvelous presentation! "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 JOBS FOR LIFE GRADUATION May 5th, 2016 Travail House ladies and clients we help on a regular basis graduated from Jobs for Life this past month. Jobs for Life is a program designed to restore dignity, change lives, and transform communities by giving individuals the necessary tools to build a career path that will secure a job for life. Throughout the semester our clients learnt about how to create a resume, public speaking, and how to interview successfully. Jobs for Life gave our ladies a second chance. New hope and confidence needed to bring career dreams to life! All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 "3
S U C C E S S S T O R I E S St. FRANCISVILLE BIRTH CERTIFICATES/ PICNIC BY THE OAKS This past month we went on a road trip to St. Francisville. First we took care of business at the St. Francisville Vital Records Office before we set up ourselves for some outdoor fun! We started with a picnic at the park. We had sandwiches, chips, and cold drinks. At the same time we enjoyed a great bible study and 'family' time. During the rest of our stay we explored the surroundings and made up our own scavenger hunt, unearthed some worms, and just plainly breathe the fresh air. Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 CHASITY GRADUATION North Banks Middle Chasity Edwards one of our youth currently living at TRAVAIL House graduated from North Banks Middle. After lots of setbacks on her living situations we were able to offer a stable environment for her to finish the school year. She has been learning how to become more independent, relying on Jesus, and has come a lot out of her shell. She surprised us at a prayer meeting when she volunteered to sing in front of the congregation. That s a big step for someone who lacked self confidence and used to cover hear face most of the time! Chasity is blossoming into a beautiful young lady! Please lift her in prayer, as well as her brother Nakia and her mom. Pray for their family to come to know the Lord and be able to reunite soon. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 ELISA QUINCE VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Elisa Quince is our volunteer of the month. She faithfully brings our Travail youth to Squad Parties, and BOLD Nights at Bethany Church. She loves youth with ALL her heart! The immense love she has for Jesus reflects on how she interacts with them. The excitement starts once they set foot on her car. Christian Hip-Hop and rap fill the atmosphere and spreads across the board. Everyone tunes in at the beat and heart of each song. Such a great way to renew our minds with God s Word! Elisa also facilitates outings for our youth pre-squad party. Thanks to her willingness our youth have gone to the library, malls, and even the Bass Pro Shop. She and her helper love to pour into their lives a smile is worth many words! Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! Psalms 47:1 " 4
F A R E W E L L M S K A R E N B A I L E Y The month of June we said Farewell to Ms. Karen one of our faithful ministry volunteers. She left an imprint on each of our hearts that will stay with us forever! We helped her pack her storage unit in return, it was a joyful time; yet a small thing for ALL she has poured into the ministry and our lives! We love you very much Ms. Karen and pray that in this new season of your life God will fill your life with blessings upon blessings as you do ministry work with The Upper Room; praying and spreading God s Word daily!
