THOSE SERVING IN WORSHIP TODAY

SERVICE OF CELEBRATION TO GOD Fourth Sunday in Advent December 18, :00 am

Transcription:

NEW OPPORTUNITY for parents Beginning this Sunday, October 28 we will be providing a casual, relaxed space for parents of children and youth, during the traditional Sunday school hour (9:45-10:45). Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. Chuck and Mary Pat Bohrman will serve as hosts to greet and welcome you. The room will be in the new building on the first floor (we're borrowing the infant nursery room for a while!) We have excellent and exciting small groups for all of our children and youth during this time, with dedicated and caring leaders. So, if you're not in a small group during the Sunday school hour we've got a great place for you to be! Come join other parents and grab a cup of coffee and enjoy sharing your week's ups and downs, and the joys and challenges of parenting...or anything you want to talk about! Bring your children and youth

Halloween Family Fun Night On October 31 our church is sponsoring one of the biggest outreach events of the year! This is a great time to INVITE everyone you know for a fun activity and a safe alternative for children on Halloween night. We offer lots of games, prizes, food and a ton of fun! WE NEED YOUR HELP Volunteers to give an hour or so to run each of the games throughout the night, PLEASE CALL to let us know Donated packs of hot dogs and buns Donated soft drinks Donated Halloween candy Please call the church office if you are willing to help in any way! Giving that Blesses; Teams to join, All Saints Sunday, Charge Conference Our Giving that Blesses Campaign is in its final week. If you have not picked up your household s letter at church, it should come in the mail. Please take the time to prayerfully decide how you will support the church in the 2019 calendar year - the work God has for us by your commitment of your prayers, presence, giving, service and witness. Giving that blesses is not just about finances. Our ministries need your ongoing presence and service to support. We also give our time and our energy to the ministry of the church as we pray for the church, engage in worship regularly, engage in Christian growth through a Sunday school class or bible discussion group, engage in serving in a ministry area or out in the community and beyond and as we engage in sharing God s love with our neighbors, co-workers, and others. There are many existing and new ministry teams that you can join, such as Sunday morning greeters and ushers, Searcy Homes Dinner Church team, Sunday offering counters, Sunday worship sound/computer operator, Celebrate Recovery cooks, Searcy Homes tutors, etc. Indicate on your Partners in Ministry card an area where you would like to get involved and serve. How will you grow and serve as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ in 2019 with giving that blesses? On Sunday, November 4th, we will celebrate All Saints Sunday in our 11 AM worship service. We will remember the saints from our church family who have gone on before us in a special moment during our worship service and with a special display in the narthex. May we honor the memory of these dear church members as we worship that day, but may we also honor them by following in their footsteps as faithful followers of Jesus Christ through the ministries of Holmes Street church. Our annual Charge Conference will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 3 PM at Aldersgate UMC. This will be a time of worship, of learning about ministry opportunities that sister congregations are finding success with, and for doing the official business of Charge Conference. All are welcome to attend. Great things are happening here at Holmes Street, and greater things are yet to come. How will you take a step up in your engagement for giving and living that blesses? Tutoring Opportunity Tesha Crump, the After-School & Program Director at Searcy Homes has relayed to us that tutors are needed to work with the elementary and middleschool youth. Tesha has been able to help students raise their grade point averages each of the past couple of years and could use our help. Let me know if you are interested. Eddie Page 9

We need volunteers who love children and love to see them smile, who want to help with one of our biggest OUTREACH MINISTRIES here at Holmes Street and who would enjoy providing a safe place for families to share in fun and games on Halloween evening. Call the church office if you would like to volunteer! October 31

Meals on Wheels is once a month: the second Tuesday of each month and takes about an hour to complete. Two routes have drivers retiring in January after over 20 years of service. We need volunteers for these routes as well as at least three people to be on our substitute list. People go on vacation in the summer and generally there s no problem filling vacancies of one or two people. However, during cold and flu season, it s a problem filling nine vacancies. You may not be needed even once during the year but we still need a back-up plan. If you are still working, many businesses encourage community service and will allow the time off. Please prayerfully consider becoming a sub or taking over a route. It s a mission we can do in our own community. If you can help, call B Rogers at 256-682-3590.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped make the 2018 Holmes Street Holiday Market a success! They say it takes a village and words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation I have for everyone at HSUMC. First, a thank you to co-chair, Cheri Crawford, to Debbie & Phyllis in the church office, to Gary for helping Cheri & me plot booth spaces, to everyone who helped set up Thursday, Friday and Saturday and who helped check in vendors. Thank you to the greeters, floaters, and those who provided breakfast items on Saturday morning, those who helped serve food, donated food, our cashiers, those who assisted vendors unloading and reloading, and helped with traffic flow. A BIG THANK YOU to Eddie & Dale for clearing rooms on Thursday, to Eddie for driving the church bus on Saturday. Thank you to Sue & Bill Glover and their hard-working team for taking charge of the kitchen and for providing breakfast and lunch for vendors, customers and volunteers. Thanks to the guys for grilling the burgers and hotdogs. Thank you to the after- Market clean-up crew who prepared the Great Room for Sunday morning service. A HUGE thank you to Dale for being a big help to me in preparation for the Market Event. Thank you to Todd for being there Saturday morning to assist with set up and Wi-Fi. All the vendors were very grateful and full of praise for the hospitality of Holmes Street church and the friendly church members who volunteered, the breakfast provided to them the morning of the event and food prepared to sell for lunch. Breakfast and lunch got rave reviews! Hospitality and love is exactly what I wanted them to feel and speaks volumes about our Church. This is why I refer to us not as Holmes Street but Home Street. Thank You, Blessings & Love to All of You! Leslie Willis, Coordinator of the 2018 Holmes Street Holiday Market Thanks to all who provided support for Kairos 66. You were a blessing to the men in white who came to this Kairos. Again, God used our Kairos team to bring the love of God to these men in a mighty way. Bill Glover Page 18 Celebrate Recovery wishes to thank those who provided food and /or assistance with the October 7th meal: Connie Counts, Dale Doty, Marianne Hass, John and Lisa Howell, Todd Owen, Mildred Rembert, Barbara Stephens, and Doris Wilson.
