A Week in the Word a guide to a spending time with God Assurance... And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end. Hebrews 6:11

Overview Welcome to the start of a combination of several essential spiritual disciplines of the Christian life. If this is your first time to do this as a believer, you are in for a wonderful experience. If you have spent many years praying and reading God s Word, may this be an encouragement to you to keep growing in your intimacy with God. Please use this booklet as a guide for spending time with God this week. It is designed to allow you to interact with and mark up a text of Scripture and reflect on what you read. This particular booklet focuses on the verses on assurance from Book 1 of the Navigator 2:7 Series. It includes the optional outreach verse as well as Colossians 2:6-7. Each verse is given in its immediate context so that you can better understand the verses you are memorizing. The verse to be memorized in Book 1 are distinguished by being in bold italic font. We hope as you read and reflect on these passages that you are drawn to worship and adore Christ because of the assurances that are yours by grace through faith in Him. The questions following each passage will allow you to make the principles of these passages personal for your life. The goal of studying the Bible is to be changed by it and to gain insight into the heart and mind of God. Referring to the Bible, one theologian has said, This Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book. As we meditate upon and put into action the truths of Scripture, we become more like Christ, the One about Whom the Bible centers. As you reflect on these marvelous passages of Scripture this week, ask God to make you more like His Son Jesus...

1 John 5:1-12 1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 1

Day 1 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read 1 John 5:1-12 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will 1 John 5:11-12 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 2

John 16:16-24 16 A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me. 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, What is this thing He is telling us, A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me ; and, because I go to the Father? 18 So they were saying, What is this that He says, A little while? We do not know what He is talking about. 19 Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. 21 Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. 22 Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. 23 In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. 3

Day 2 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read John 16:16-24 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will John 16:24 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 4

1 Corinthians 10:1-13 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. 6 Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play. 8 Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. 9 Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents. 10 Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 5

Day 3 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will 1 Corinthians 10:13 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 6

1 John 1:1-10 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life 2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us 3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. 5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 7

Day 4 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read 1 John 1:1-10 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will 1 John 1:9 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 8

Proverbs 3:1-12 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; 2 For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you. 3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord from your wealth And from the first of all your produce; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine. 11 My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord Or loathe His reproof, 12 For whom the Lord loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights. 9

Day 5 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read Proverbs 3:1-12 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will Proverbs 3:5-6 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 10

John 5:19-24 19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. 11

Day 6 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read John 5:19-24 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will John 5:24 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 12

Colossians 2:6-15 6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. 9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; 11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. 13

Day 7 Pray for guidance as you read God s word Read Colossians 2:6-15 and mark what stands out to you Answer the following reflection questions... Is there an example for me to follow? Is there a sin for me to avoid? Is there a promise for me to claim? Is there a quality I would like God to build into my life? Is there something I would like to study later or is there a question I would like to ask later? How will Colossians 2:6-7 impact your life this week? Pray and reflect on what you have read... 14
