BAPTISM FORGIVE JORDAN JOHN WATER SINS ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You have already come, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. Dear Friends at Saint Paul: December 10, 2017 Wow! the banners placed in church are in prepara on for our Parish Ministry Fair -- part of our New Year's Resolu ons, with the volunteer commitment card due the weekend of January 6 and 7, 2018, the Feast of the Epiphany. We con nue to focus a en on on the TAG, You're It! campaign. I know that your me is a most precious resource, with talent and treasure seemingly trailing behind the some mes overwhelming pace to meet the demands of our days! I am very op mis c that busy people find me and give me because they know how important and scarce it is. The coming weeks will be filled with many prepara ons for Christmas: gi -giving requires imagina on and though ulness. So does volunteering! Many of our ministries take place here at the Parish but we are working to get all the details of several city and county programs that could use your me. You will be able to volunteer, for example, at our parish school as a tutor or a lunch monitor as well as carry wood or hammer nails or paint at Habitat for Humanity or a hundred other combina ons. The diversity of programs that you can be part of is wide and rich. Your interests, me and talent can find just the right match! The one thing that won't work is if you won't work! God is calling on you to take part of the ministries, volunteer needs and outreach programs of our Ministry Fair. That will be a New Year's resolu on you will be proud to fulfill. The Three Kings come to Bethlehem to give gi s to the Christ Child who is bringing that greatest of gi s: His whole life to save His people. This is news of great joy. Now is a me to pray and discern where you will find just that right place to offer yourself, imita ng Christ, for the good of others. Another important part of our efforts this year to bring people together for ministry and community is the Pictorial Directory. Several have already volunteered to help with this project, especially for helping people get appointments for portraits and hos ng the events itself. You can volunteer for this now. The photographers will be here from February 12, 2018 through March. Plan now to get your people together and sit for a pic you'll be proud of! Peace,

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 10, 2017 A NEW HEAVEN AND EARTH Today s Readings: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-ll: Psalm 85:9-10, 11-14: 2 Peter 3:8-14;Mark 1:1-8. During this second week of Advent, we reflect on the future God has in store for us. When we look more deeply into the Scriptures, it becomes clear that Advent is not as simple as we may think. Last week s readings urged us to be watchful and to ready ourselves for Christ s coming. This requires a en on to God s Word within us. This week, the prophet Isaiah paints a beau ful picture for the Israelites who are in cap vity. Salva on will come, and the Lord will forgive all their sins. Isaiah depicts mountains being leveled and valleys being filled. He directs Zion to tell this Good News to the en re world. In the Gospel, John the Bap st is the herald of the coming Messiah. John calls all crea on to repent and seek God s forgiveness. He is the herald who paves the way for Jesus. What does it look like to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ? It takes a vulnerable and watchful heart. We need to seek forgiveness with contrite hearts and open ourselves to the amazing grace of God s mercy which is the wellspring of all healing. SHEPHERD OF ISRAEL Almighty and ever-living God, You are the source of all consola on and font of our salva on. You have saved your people from the wilderness, gathered them like lambs into your bosom, and fed them with a mother s care. Make level within us all that sin has made rugged; take the crooked paths of our hearts and make them straight. May our repentant hearts turn to you and, at the coming of your Son, be found eager to welcome him so that, in joyful celebra on, your chosen people can say here is your God! Through Christ our Lord. AMEN THIS WEEK AT HOME Monday, Dec. 11 INCREDIBLE THINGS As we begin the 2nd week of Advent, it is important to recall the marvelous things our God has done for us in Jesus Christ. Through his Paschal Mystery, we are saved from death and share in eternal life. Let Jesus heal and liberate you from all that paralyzes you and keeps you from living the Good News. Tuesday, Dec. 12 OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE Mary s message is one of hope and assurance. In the gospel, John, who is in Elizabeth s womb, leaps with joy as Mary greets Elizabeth. Consider the mes you have leapt with joy when you have encountered Christ. Wednesday, Dec. 13 ST. LUCY St. Lucy, whom we honor today, understood Jesus invita on to gain wisdom from Him and follow Him. Take quiet me to pray for the gi of wisdom so that your life will shine with the light of Christ. Thursday, Dec. 14 ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS The psalm refrain today tells us that God is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and kind. It is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving for the faithfulness of God. Let us praise God and ask that our lives grow in faithfulness to His way. Friday, Dec. 15 WISDOM We are invited today to contemplate the wisdom of God. Jesus teaches us to live in the light, listening to the voice of wisdom. Pray for openness to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. Saturday, Dec. 16 IN PLAIN SIGHT It can be easy to miss what is in plain sight. Whom do you recognize as one who announces the coming of Christ? Pray today that you might see the living God and be saved.
