PASTOR SUTTON S CORNER By Superintendent Clethen U. Sutton A Church Where You Can Feel the Holy Spirit Superintendent Clethen U. Sutton, Pastor, Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C. & Administrative Assistant to the Jurisdictional Bishop September is here. We start out the first day of the month with a Holiday, Labor Day. According to information obtained from www.dol.gov (US Department of Labor), the first Labor Day Holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 05, 1882 in New York City. In 1884, the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday. Cities throughout the US were urged by the Central Labor Union to follow in New York s footsteps and celebrate working people on this date. The idea continued to spread throughout the country and in 1885, Labor Day was being celebrated throughout many industrial centers in the country. While contemplating about what Labor Day really means, I thought of a scripture that references Work. The scripture is Ephesian 4:12 For perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. This scripture reminds us that gifts are given to us by Christ; enabling us to do our work. Working, whether in the secular or spiritual realm is a ministry. Both jobs can be laborious. Therefore, on Labor Day, let s recognize the additional opportunity that we have been afforded to thank GOD for our jobs and the gifts that He has bestowed upon us enabling us to perfect HIS work. Set aside some time during this month to thank GOD for all of the working people in our nation, for our jobs/work and for our income. Have a HAPPY & SAFE LAOBR DAY! SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT You are a special part of the body of Christ. If you are a Christian and are not serving in some way, the church as a whole suffers. It's like missing a part of the body. You may be able to live a normal life with just 9 out of 10 fingers, but you wouldn't be able to do certain things as well as you would like to. The truth is, the body of Christ has missing parts. They are attached but are missing in action. The church is called the "body of Christ" for a reason. We are connected by our faith in Jesus Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit. Being members of the body, we need to work together. In 1 Corinthians 12:12 it states, "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ." And verse 14, "For the body is not one member, but many." Each of us is a specific body part. It sounds strange but it is a great analogy of the church. In verse 27 Paul says, "Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it." In Verses 13-27, Paul affirms the importance of each member. He also declares that we need each member to function properly as a whole body. He says, in verse 26, "And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it" (www.spiritualgiftstest.com). Let us not forget that we are all co-workers in Christ s vineyard. 1 Corinthians 3:9, states For we are laborers together with God: ye are God s husbandry, ye are God s building. August 19 th marked a dark day in Tampa Police history. Corporal Mike Roberts was shot and killed during a Signal 80 at Nebraska Avenue and Arctic Street on August 19 th, 2009 at approx 10:00 PM. Members of the PBA, friends, and family met with Cindy Roberts at Cheney Park at 2100 hours and the PBA Executive Board handed out candles to attendees. Cindy Roberts placed a cross at the site where Mike Roberts was killed. PBA Chaplain, Clete Sutton gave a few words of prayer. God bless the Roberts family, loved ones and friends. Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying...works do follow them. First Lady Susan Sutton, Superintendent C. U. Sutton and Miracle Temple Church Family would like to give a special Thank You to Colonel Crawford for the wonderful Vacation Bible Study classes. The participants voiced that is was a great learning experience. Learning how to read and understand scripture and to be able to explain that scripture to someone else so that they understand is truly a blessing and a gift. Thank you for that gift and for the time you so selflessly gave to us. God bless you and your family Colonel Crawford. We look forward to seeing you next year. Once-prosperous cities and towns are full of abandoned and barred-up buildings. There are no signs of thriving businesses, and entire neighborhoods are blighted and empty. The people who remain in these areas sometimes look as forlorn as the property surrounding them. These are all signs of hopelessness. Through Jesus Christ, there is hope for the restoration and renewal of the communities and the people who live in them. We must be as diligent as Jeremiah in sharing the Word that God not only loves but also cares for His people and the He has a plan for their future.
