Becoming Faithful Disciples Priority Team s Sum m aries flowing from our Strategic Vision No ve m b e r 15, 20 15 First Congregational Church of Western Springs

Five Key Priorities

Team 1 Spirituality Enrich our Theological Perspectives Sacrament Workshops- What makes us a Christian Church? The sacraments are what make the church relevant. They need to be practiced, offered and explained in the context of a loving, authentic, and inclusive community. Passover Seder- By celebrating our Hebrew heritage we deepen our spirituality. We can learn a new spiritual practice by drawing parallels between the sym bolism in the Seder story and our Christianity today.

Team 1 Spirituality Sharing our Faith Stories W riting W orkshop- Your spirituality is a very individual thing that needs time for personal reflection and space to express itself with creativity. Before we can share our stories we must know them. Small groups led in mapping, journaling, focused free form, and dialogue writing, can connect us to the holy spirit and anchor our souls. Then people could share their story if they choose.

Team 1 Spirituality Explore new ways to deepen our faith Lectio Divina- Learn a new way of reading the scriptures with silence, breath, and meditation. This can be done individually or in groups. God speaks to us through scripture. Lectio Divina provides reflection, response, and rest. We gradually transform from within with this authentic prayer by letting go of our own agenda, and opening ourselves to what God wants to say to us.

Team 1 Spirituality Integrate a variety of spiritual practices in our Congregational lives Retreat- Women,Men,PF,Mom retreats at Tower Hill. Lab r yinth s- Continue to encourage and enhance. Sunday School Teachers- Personally invite and encourage more members to this great ministry. PF and Plym outh Place- repeat sm all group gatherings, growing in faith and sharing together. Reflection- List of available places and times in our church for private quiet time and personal spiritual growth.

Team 1 Spirituality Discernment Discernm ent Leadership Training- Committee chairpersons would learn how to bring the practice of discernment to their small groups. Daily Reflections- UCC devotionals link, biblical texts used for sermons announced prior in Gatherings. Meditation Workshop for Personal Discernment- Drawing, W riting, Sculpting, and W alking with bible verse and prayer from the book Grounded in God.

Team 1 Spirituality Enrich our Worship Experience Yo u th Se r vice - Similar to the Peace service last year. Youth give reflections, play music, select topic for worship. Confessions for Youth- a vital component to personal spirituality and discipleship. Intentionality for Youth- Mantra for the week reinforced on youth platforms to promote daily reflection.
