Order of Worship April 13, 2014 CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP Hosanna sung by the children of Redeemer When the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were indignant. Do you hear what these children are saying? they asked him. Yes, replied Jesus, have you never read, From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise? Matthew 21:15-16 CALL TO WORSHIP from Luke 9:51; Matthew 21:8; Luke 19:37, 38; Matthew 21:9 LEADER: As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. As he went along, a very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen, saying: PEOPLE: (with a loud voice) Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! LEADER: And the multitudes that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, PEOPLE: (with a loud voice) Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! 2
SONGS OF PRAISE HOSANNA LOUD HOSANNA Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, the simplest and the best. CHILDREN: Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King The King who comes to reign Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King Who comes in the name of the Lord! From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels rode on in lowly state, Nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait. ALL: Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King The King who comes to reign Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King Who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! that ancient song we sing, For Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heav n, our King. O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice, And in His blissful presence eternally rejoice! GLORY TO THE LORD OUR GOD Lift up your heads, O ye gates, let the King of Glory come in; Be lifted up, O ancient doors; let the King of Glory come in! HALLELUJAH FOR THE CROSS Up to the hill of Calvary my Savior went courageously And there he bled and died for me, Hallelujah for the cross And on that day the world was changed, a final perfect Lamb was slain Let earth and heaven now proclaim: Hallelujah for the cross! Hallelujah for the war he fought, love has won, death has lost Hallelujah for the souls he bought, Hallelujah for the cross! What good I ve done could never save, my debt too great for deeds to pay But God my Savior made a way, Hallelujah for the cross A slave to sin, my life was bound, but all my chains fell to the ground When Jesus blood came flowing down, Hallelujah for the cross! (chorus) And when I breathe my final breath I ll have no need to fear that rest This hope will guide me into death, Hallelujah for the cross! (chorus) 4

THE POWER OF THE CROSS Oh, to see the dawn, Of the darkest day: Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, Torn and beaten, then Nailed to a cross of wood. This, the pow r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath We stand forgiven at the cross. Oh, to see the pain, Written on Your face, Bearing the awesome weight of sin. Ev ry bitter thought, Ev ry evil deed Crowning Your bloodstained brow. (chorus) Now the daylight flees; Now the ground beneath Quakes as its Maker bows His head. Curtain torn in two, Dead are raised to life; Finished! the vict ry cry. (chorus) Oh, to see my name, Written in the wounds, For through Your suffering I am free. Death is crushed to death; Life is mine to live, Won through Your selfless love. This, the pow r of the cross: Son of God slain for us. What a love! What a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross.
