CFA FOUNDATION BREAKOUT SESSION OVERVIEW ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT MOUNTAIN Question One: Take a moment to dream. Dream of what this mountain would look like in our community if it honored and reflected God completely. Dream of the ideal and describe what you see. Areas to Consider: Acting; Advertising; Architecture; Culinary Arts; Dancing; Games; Gardening; Knitting; Music; Painting; Photography; Sculpture; Sports; TV & Movie Production; Woodworking; Writing Literature, Short-Stories, Poetry, Plays, Movie Scripts, etc. 1. A community where art in all of its forms is valued, explored, and developed a Renaissance community on the cutting edge of producing new, excellent and God-honoring art. 2. A community where no movie theater shows films rated above R; where pornography is not readily available; and where sexual-based businesses do not exist. 3. A community where people spend less than two hours a day watching television and instead spend the majority of their entertainment time learning or teaching skills, playing games, producing things of value, or exercising. 4. A community where the architecture (house designs, landscapes, parks, city plan, roads, business district, etc.) encourages people to interact with one another. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would children, families, singles, elderly, and friends spend their time doing?

3. What would the average citizen know about literature, art, dance, music, sports, etc.? 4. What values or principles would art convey? How would art that failed to convey these principles be received? 5. What resources would be available in the community, i.e. museums, classes, evening activities, plays, etc.? Question Two: Now that you have defined your ideal (or parts of it), imagine that you had all the power necessary to realize your dream. What steps would you take to get from where we are to where you want us to be? Remember: You are still dreaming, so do not limit your list in anyway. 1. Have 10% of all local churches donate to ministries or sponsor initiatives that produce God-honoring art. 2. Host quarterly conferences where aspiring artists or athletes can learn from experienced and Biblically grounded experts in their fields. 3. Ensure that for every film released that does not honor God there is one that does. 4. Eliminate the sale of pornography within the community.

A community where journalists have a Biblical worldview, stellar integrity, and a keen hunger to find and report the truth no matter where it leads. 2. A community where media sets the example for civil discourse a discourse that does not permit fallacious attacks, poor logic, or the silencing of another perspective. 4. A community where government does not threaten or intimidate the media. 5. A community where the public respects the media. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What standards or criteria would be used to judge the media s work? Areas to Consider: Discipleship; Prophetic Voice; Service (esp. to widows, orphans, infirm, imprisoned, and voiceless) 1. A community where the church presents a unified front to the non-believing world where it is known more as The Church at Colorado Springs or Littleton than First this or Christian Church that. 2. A community where every follower of Christ operates from a strong Biblical worldview and strives to learn more about God and His creation. 3. A community where the Church loves and provides for the least of these through a model that seeks to stabilize and raise up the struggling instead of keeping them in a cycle of poverty, ignorance, etc. 4. A community where the Church winsomely yet firmly stands for the Truth. 5. A community where the Church is respected and valued where the community embraces it as a viable segment of society instead of being fearful, skeptical, or cynical toward it. 1. What characteristics or attributes of God would be reflected in this mountain? 2. What would each follower of Christ look like (i.e. character, service, Biblical understanding, etc.)? What would The Church at Colorado Springs or Littleton look like? 3. What would non-believers, even those vehemently opposed to the message of Christ, say about the Church? (Read Titus for ideas.)
