Church Life If you are visiting with us for the first time, WELCOME! We are glad it was your choice to worship Christ with us today. We hope this time of praise and the study of God s Word will be an encouragement for you. Please join us for refreshments on the patio at the Royal Palm campus or in the foyer at the Acreage campus. We look forward to meeting you! Free event for individuals and families of all ages living with any disability. I joined Connect Church in an effort to seek community and to be challenged Biblically. I found just that and so much more. CC is a loving community of believers that has been warm and inviting. The teachings are Biblically challenging and support your growth as a believer. I love it! I have had the amazing opportunity to serve in the preschool on Sundays. This year, God also blessed me with the opportunity to serve in VBS and Haiti on our mission trip. Both were wonderful experiences. I am excited to be a part of this church family and to see how God can use me to glorify Him and serve Him with others. Are you considering Christ s request to follow Him by way of believer s baptism? Make plans now to register for the upcoming Beach Baptism. Please phone the church office to make an appointment with one of our pastors to discuss your spiritual journey. We will celebrate this Ordinance of God, fellowship, and have a cookout from 3:30-6:30 PM at the Gumbo-Limbo Pavilion in Carlin Park, Jupiter. Save the date! Make plans now to attend this conference which will both inspire and challenge us as parents, grandparents, Church or simply Life concerned adults who desire to influence children and youth for God. What will the next generation look like? That all depends upon how much we will invest in their future. Earthly treasures can become heavenly ones. A. W. Tozer said: As base a thing as money often is, it yet can be transmuted into everlasting treasure. It can be converted into food for the hungry and clothing for the poor; it can keep a missionary actively winning lost men to the light of the gospel and thus transmute itself into heavenly values. Any temporal possession can be turned into everlasting wealth. Whatever is given to Christ is immediately touched with immortality. Thinking about joining this church, being baptized, or just want to find out more about the ministries and mission? Please join us for the Church Orientation session. Royal Palm campus - Today, February 5th at 11:00 AM in the Coffee Shop Acreage campus - Today, February 5th at 11:00 AM in the Choral Room. If affluenza is a disease, what s the cure? If materialism is the poison, what s the antidote? Paul offers an answer: Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. From The Treasure Principle Are you just beginning to visit with us and would like to meet the leadership staff? You are invited to lunch with the Pastors and their families! We look forward to meeting you, today, Feb. 5th at 12:30 PM in the Activity Center on the Royal Palm campus.

God s Word - Time With God Today s SOAP from Pastor Jim Sims S.O.A.P. Scripture Observation Application Prayer Scripture: Judges 6:11-12 Observation: I am always amazed at these verses. Gideon is hiding in the wine vat trying to process the wheat. He needed to be somewhere the wind could gently blow the unusable part of the wheat from the grain they would use to make bread. There was little wind in the place where they made and stored the wine. He was hiding. Wise, industrious, determined would all be adjectives that described Gideon with the wheat. However, the angel came to him and addressed Gideon as a mighty warrior; hardly the picture we get from a guy beating wheat while hiding from the enemy. And yet, God saw in Gideon what he did not see in himself. Gradually over the course of this story God transformed this man into one who could hear His voice and who would risk his life with an army of 300 against an enemy force in the tens of thousands. Indeed, Gideon was a mighty warrior. Application: I must see myself, and others around me through the eyes of God. I must see the potential God sees in each of us. God is growing and transforming us into the instruments He can best use for His work. Prayer: Lord, I want to be all that You want me to be. Thank You for seeing more in me than I can see in myself. I recommit myself to following Your training plan for me and to trust You to use me. Also, Lord, help me to see what You see in others around me How Do I SOAP? Scripture - Read the passage of Scripture for the day and allow God to speak to you. Look for a verse that spoke to you. Write it down. Observation - Write your observation as to what is happening in the text. What do you believe is the point of the passage? Application - Ask yourself how this Scripture applies to your life right now. Write down how it can apply to you today. Prayer - This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this Scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out. Grab your Bible, a pen, and a notebook. Get ready to hear from God through His Word! This Week s SOAP Compromised Potential M Judges 13:24-25 T Judges 16:4-6 W Judges 15:13-15 TH Judges 16:16-18 F Judges 16:19-22 S Judges 16:28-30 Main Passage for February 12 Judges 16:4-6, 13-20 HCSB Memory Verse: Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did whatever he wanted.

Timid Warrior Scripture 11 The Angel of the Lord came, and He sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash, the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was threshing wheat in the wine vat in order to hide it from the Midianites. 12 Then the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: The Lord is with you, mighty warrior. 13 Gideon said to Him, Please Sir, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened? And where are all His wonders that our fathers told us about? They said, Hasn t the Lord brought us out of Egypt? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian. 14 The Lord turned to him and said, Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the power of Midian. Am I not sending you? 15 He said to Him, Please, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Look, my family is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father s house. 16 But I will be with you, the Lord said to him. You will strike Midian down as if it were one man. 25 On that very night the Lord said to him, Take your father s young bull and a second bull seven years old. Then tear down the altar of Baal that belongs to your father and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. 26 Build a well-constructed altar to the Lord your God on the top of this rock. Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down. 27 So Gideon took 10 of his male servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was too afraid of his father s household and the men of the city to do it in the daytime, he did it at night. 28 When the men of the city got up in the morning, they found Baal s altar torn down, the Asherah pole beside it cut down, and the second bull offered up on the altar that had been built. 29 They said to each other, Who did this? After they made a thorough investigation, they said, Gideon son of Joash did it. 30 Then the men of the city said to Joash, Bring out your son. He must die, because he tore down Baal s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. 31 But Joash said to all who stood against him, Would you plead Baal s case for him? Would you save him? Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him plead his own case because someone tore down his altar. 32 That day, Gideon s father called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead his case with him, because he tore down his altar. God s Word - Devoted to Him Stand Your Watch! I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected. Habakkuk 2:1 The watchman's job was vital. An approaching army left residents of an ancient city precious little time to flee or to prepare for battle. Everyone's life depended on the alert watchman as he peered into the horizon for the earliest glimpse of an approaching threat. It was critical that the people be alerted as soon as possible to what was coming. As a Christian, God places you as a watchman for yourself, your friends, your family, and your church family. It is essential that you be attentive to what God is saying. It may be that a friend is in crisis and needs God's Word. As you study your Bible, God may choose to give you words of encouragement to share with your friend. It may be that as your children face difficult challenges, God will speak to you as you pray and reveal how you can help them. If you are spiritually alert, you may receive a warning from God that addresses specific dangers that those around you are facing. If you are careless, on the other hand, your family may be struggling, but the answers God has for them will go unheard. If you are oblivious to God's message, those around you may miss the encouraging promise from God that He wanted to share through you. God holds His watchmen accountable for their diligence (Ezek. 33:6). Strive to be attentive to every word that comes to you from God. Your diligence will benefit you and those around you as you heed God's warnings and follow His commands. Women s Ministry My daughter-in-law is seven and one-half months pregnant. The other day she decided to eat a big chicken sandwich. She knew if she ate it, since it was bigger than the room in her tummy now, it would taste great but give her heartburn. Did you know as Christians, we are told to symbolically eat God s Word and that it would be joy and strength to us, not something yucky? (see Jeremiah 15:16, Matthew 7:24-29, John 15:7,11.) Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4 (NIV) The prophet Ezekiel was told by God to eat His Words which were written on a scroll. The command from God sounds odd, but it was a visual aid to show Ezekiel and others what God wanted them to do with His Word. God s desire was for Ezekiel (and all of us) to allow His words to saturate our hearts and minds so we can speak and live them (Psalm 119:97-105 esp. 103 and 1 Peter 2:2). The voice (God) said to me, Son of man, eat what I am giving you eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he fed me the scroll. Fill your stomach with this, he said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth. Then he said, Son of man, go to the people of Israel and give them my messages...so don t be afraid of them or fear their angry looks, even though they are rebels. Then he added, Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself...ezekiel 3:1-11 (NLT) You might be wondering what a scroll is. Scrolls were the books of Ezekiel s day. They were the common means for recording and preserving God s Word in Israel. Leather, papyrus, or parchment sheets were joined together to form a book that the person would roll out as he read. Ezekiel ate the scroll, and we would all think Yuck! Yet, it ended up being sweet, because God s words are life to our soul. As Peter said, in John 6:68, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life." King David said, in Psalm 19:9-10, "...The judgments of the LORD are true...they are more desirable than gold... Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb." God s words are sweet to Christians, even His words of judgment, because as Christians His words bring us salvation and teach us to be more like Jesus. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, 12:5-11, and James 1:21-25. We need to read, study, and memorize God s words daily, so we will know them enough to alter our thoughts and actions. If you are not a Christian, God s words can be bitter to you! This is because they spotlight and define your sins, and describe God s judgment that comes from not believing in Jesus. Read Psalm 1, Romans 7:7 and Revelations 10:9-11. Gini Crawford Thank you to all of you who participated in the Fair Ministry. Four people were baptized during this season. Thank you Jamie Gregory for your continued dedication to this ministry. Rosa Madrigal Women s Ministry Director duviee@bellsouth.net

Kids Ministry Today s Sunday School Lesson Today, the children learned about Gideon. They learned that believers grow in their faith by being obedient to God. Their memory verse today was Judges 6:16. The verse for next week is Judges 17:6 "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did whatever he wanted." Practice this verse with your child throughout the week so they might earn a Disciple Dollar next Sunday for memorizing the verse. Their connection passage today was Judges 6-8. They learned that Gideon wasn t a perfect leader, but he depended on God for the victory. Review questions from today s lesson: How do believers grow in their faith? Why is it important to be obedient to God? Who did the Angel of the Lord say that Gideon would defeat? How did Gideon depend on God for the victory? The Disciple Dollar Store will be open EVERY week. Type in this link www.pinterest.com/connect_church on your computer to have access to the Connect Church Pinterest with all the weekly worship folder activities. Thank you to our AWANA Mission Month Guest Speakers: Jodie Schmitz, Jenny Andrews and Paula Grossman. The kids enjoyed learning about the different mission fields. This week is Spread the Love night. Join us as we make Valentines for special members of our church family. Derby Cars are available in the Resource Center for $5. The next Derby Work Day will be Feb 18th and will focus on painting, wheels and axles. If you need assistance with cutting your derby car, please contact Wendi Bean. Today the lesson was on Gideon. The children learned that Gideon depended on God for victory and that we can grow in our faith by being obedient. Below is a craft torch that your child can make with you at home. This represents the torch that Gideon and the other men held up as they shouted "A sword for the Lord and for Gideon." It is a reminder of how God won the victory for Gideon. Preschool Ministry Today s Sunday School Lesson God loves me when I m afraid. Today in class the children learned what the Bible says about the Prodigal Son. (Luke 15:11-32) This week s verse is His father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. Luke 15:20. Please, help your child memorize the verse and review the lesson by asking the following questions: What did the younger son want? What did he do with the money? Which person is God like in this story? Will God forgive and accept a person who has done terrible things? When you sin, do you ask God to forgive you? The children will earn stickers and stamps this week for knowing the verse and the story. Connecting Church and Home Directions Using crayons and a piece of construction paper, draw four sections for your preschooler to draw and color what the Prodigal Son was given when he returned home.
