Subj: William Hall II Revolutionary War Pension Application (Transcribed) Date: Monday, March 6, 2000 5:15:01 PM From: dsb@burgoyne.com bcc: HHallChem Dear Halls. Cousin Jesse F. Hall kindly sent me photocopies of William H's Rev. War Pension Application, along with his transcription of much of it and his analysis of information it contains. William II is the brother of my ancestor Anthony, son of William I and Hannah Richardson. I think it is interesting that William was 95 years old when he applied for the pension from Monroe Co. Ohio. He was then living with his son Wm. Ill, and one witness to his character said that Wm. II attended the "regular Baptist Church." I have lifted this pension information from William H's PAF notes, entered today, for your perusal. William said in his testimony that he had no documentation for his claims, so I think it would be wasted time to hope there is anything else in his pension packet. Bill Hall-note that a Henry Hall of Preston Co. VA is one of Wm.'s witnesses. Enjoy! Sherlene B. 1838 PENSION APPLICATION AT AGE 95 FROM WASHINGTON TWP., MONROE COUNTY, (AND WOODSFIELD CO.) OHIO, WHILE ATTENDING BAPTIST CHURCH AND LIVING WITH SON WILLIAM: Jesse F. Hall sent shb, Feb 2000, a photocopy of William ll's original pension application, along with his transcription and an analysis. I (Sherlene Hall Bartholomew) have gone over the photocopy, made a few changes more true to the initial spelling, punctuation, and include Mr. Hall's analysis, as follows: 3/6/0 America Online : HHallChem Page 1

Jer. Hollister." [This is the last photocopied page of the pension application record sent me Feb 2000 by Jesse F. Hall-shb 5 Mar 2000.] SUMMARY BY JESSE F. Hall: "The pension records show: (1) Four of Wm Hall's children: namely, Sarah (Sally) (Hall) Powell and William Hall III living in Monroe County, OH in 1838; Catherine (Caty) (Hall) Snider and Henry Hall living in Preston Co., VA in 1838. "(2) Sally Powell as 69 years old by Aug 1838 meaning born circa 1769. "(3) Wm Hall mentions on his 3rd tour of duty crossing a large water presumably after marching to Falmouth, VA. There is a place on the Potomac River about 12-15 miles NNE of Famouth called Wide Water, VA. "(4) Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown on 19 Oct 1781. The British troops at Savannah, GA surrendered sometime between the surrender at Yorktown and 30 Nov 1782 when a preliminary peace treaty was signed with Britain. The final treaty was signed between the US, Britain and France on 03 Sep 1783. The Rev. War began on 19 apr 1775 with the battles of Lexington & Concord; ie, 7.5 years. "(5) Based on dates in item 4 and dates provided by Caty Snider, Wm served from Apr 1781 to Jul 1781, then from end of year to Apr 1782, and may have served a third tour after that. This agrees with statement made in 3rd interrogative question about serving to near end of war. "(6) Judge Holister knew Wm Hall 20-25 years, 1813-1818. By Jesse F. Hall, February 8, 1994." -shb 5 Mar 2000 </XMP> Headers Return-Path: <dsb@burgoyne.com> Received: from rly-yh03.mx.aol.com (rly-yh03.mail.aol.com [172.18.147.35]) by air-yh03.mail.aol.com (v69.17) with ESMTP; Mon, 06 Mar 2000 18:15:01-0500 Received: from smtp.burgoyne.com (email.burgoyne.com [209.197.0.17]) by rly-yh03.mx.aol.com (v69.17) with ESMTP; Mon, 06 Mar 2000 18:14:34-0500 Received: from shb (pma12.burgoyne.com [209.197.2.14]) by smtp.burgoyne.com (8.9.3/8.9.1) with SMTP id QAA08510; 3/6/0 America Online : HHallChem Page 10
